Monster Discussion / Re: Gloom and Bloom

I've actually never had a cashier or employee make a rude comment to me about toys... as an adult, anyways. Maybe my tattoos/piercings scare them off?? idk... they do like to follow me around though, because I guess they think I'm going to steal something.  :|

Same. Which is funny, because my local shopping centre is pretty notorious for having really awful customer service. The cashiers usually compliment my hair/piercings/outfit rather than make remarks about what I'm buying. If they say anything at all, anyway.

Having said that... Gloom 'n Bloom Catrine arrived today in the mail and I'm positively giddy over her. The details that don't come through in photos online always wow me with new MH dolls. I especially love the dark purple lipstick and streaks in her hair. Also, the potted plant she comes with. Too brilliant. I can't wait for Jinafire to come out.

Monster Discussion / Re: Glue Seepage?
« on: December 10, 2014, 12:42:15 AM »
Baby powder or corn starch are the go-to fixes so I'm not sure what you're looking for other than that. I've heard tea tree oil can work but can also remove the face paint, too. What's wrong with baby powder?

Seconding this comment about the baby powder fix. I've done de-greasing dish soap and tea tree oil on a few dolls. Neither worked on a couple, because the glue seepage was so severe on them. The only thing that did work for them was baby powder (allowed to soak up the glue for 24 hours; I didn't remove/fill the head for this), followed by a cold wash with de-greasing dish soap.

Welcome sweetie!!  Your user name is gorgeous!  I hope you post some pics of your customs and outfits soon.
Thank you very much, my dear! My holidays are a bit quiet this year, so maybe I'll have the time and courage to post a few things in a couple of weeks. ^^

Clawdeen's Closet / Re: Big girls' clothes and shoes (simpler shoes 12/03)
« on: December 10, 2014, 12:37:45 AM »
Thanks! I buy fabrics at an ordinary fabric store. Well, I guess, it's not that ordinary, because it's the only one in my town with such a diversity of all kinds of fabrics. You can spend an hour there just looking at all the fabrics and it's just a bit bigger than my 12.5m2 room.
But that's not the only source ;) For the last sweater I bought a baby sweater at Gloria jeans (cheap chain store for kids and teenagers mostly). I knew I could use the fabric for doll clothes

Oh, how funny. Gloria Jean's is a coffee chain here in Australia. haha

I guess I'll just have to keep looking around for new sources of fabric, then! I wonder if the local op shops might have some worthy finds.

Can't wait to see what you make next! These are all so great!

How fantastic! This whole thread is super inspiring.

The black and gold leggings (every pair) and the peplum bodysuit you put on Nefara are especially great!

Where do you find such gorgeous fabrics, by the way? The knits and dance materials at my locals are all ridiculously sequin-covered and the wrong scale for dolls.
(Apologies if you've already said up thread, I must have missed it)

Hearing these kinds of stories makes me feel all fuzzy inside. I bet those dolls will be making for a happy Christmas indeed!

I voted want her, but more accurately, I just want her clothes!!

^ This! She's cute but I don't need another Venus, but her stock is awesome and I do want it!

I'm with these ladies!
Likewise. Maybe.

Well, yeah. I'd probably keep her because I only have one Venus (and this one has such a different haircut compared to the one I have...)

Welcome! Can't wait to see your creations! I'm sure, you'll love this place:)
Sent from my phone.

Thank you! So far I'm enjoying it quite a bit. There's a lot of really interesting topics to take in. :)

Went out Christmas shopping and found the Monster Exchange line on sale at my local Target. They've had slim pickings recently because the shopping centre was undergoing renovations and messing with stock replacement.

Anyway, Lorna and Lagoona are already in the mail, so only picked up Marisol. She's so much cuter in person! Her skin is much less saturated than photos have made her look. She was still pricier than retail the US, but roughly what I'd end up paying from Amazon, so I'm pretty pleased!

Welcome! I can't wait to see some of your creations!!!

Thank you! I hope they meet expectations, I've seen some gorgeous pieces in the closet sub-forum! (As well as elsewhere online!)

Welcome, Lhianneth!

What a beautiful name. Wydowna is so unique. Great fave!

See you around the Arena! :female:

Thank you kindly! ^^

She's really very lovely. I kind of want to buy a second to customise with another colour scheme as well, because she has so much potential for comic-inspired goodness!

Customs / Re: Extra spider torso + skeleton CAM head=
« on: December 08, 2014, 02:33:31 PM »
Creative use of spare parts! I think that her little bodysuit is a great way to tie in the arms, too.

Do you think you'd ever want to get a white Plastic Curves spider torso to make an all-white skeletal spider? Because that might be pretty striking, too!

More asian monsters they have so much cool lore, like kitsunes, kappa, oni or something in general(maybe an excuse for a red character).

I just want some kind of red doll. Devil, ant, killer tomato, etc. I don't care just make it red.

 :haha:

There is a stark lack of red in the Monster High line, it would be very interesting to see a red doll

Tengu (crow/bird of prey youkai from Japan, often associated with thunder and gales) are often depicted with red skin or clothes, and are frequently represented by wearing red masks, so maybe two birds, one stone? ... birds. Hah.

I'd love to see how they handle the nose, though. Would they give the doll a mask? Or actually attempt to model a big old schnoz?

Sightings / Re: Australian Monster Sightings
« on: December 08, 2014, 01:57:33 PM »
I'm not sure if she's new to Australia (I've only recently started collecting, and didn't see her in the main list on the first post), but spotted Wydowna at TRU the other day. I'm going back later this week and can check the shelves to see what else was new, as I was in a bit of a hurry and they had massively restocked.

Edit: Forgot to say where she was: Miranda Westfield, NSW

Editing again: Didn't get back to TRU yesterday, but did manage to get to Target in the same shopping centre. Found Lorna, Marisol and Lagoona's Monster Exchange dolls. No Draculaura, but she may have already sold? They had a bunch of new stock, but I didn't get a chance to take down which dolls because it was mad Christmas shopping chaos in that store. Oof.

That is so fantastic. These photos are just so bloody epic! It's amazing how much can build up in 10 months, isn't it? Especially if you don't get the chance to open it all right away! Just curious, but did you end up with anything that wasn't perfect/ideal/might need an exchange or refund? Because I imagine that might be a bit of a nightmare, given how long they've remained unopened.

(I've also been collecting the Sailor Moon Figuarts, aren't they great? Nostalgia kills my wallet so fast. Though I'm severely disappointed in the DVD reviews I've read.)

'llo! I'm Lhianneth, Lhia for short. I'm posting from the suburbs of Sydney, Australia. I am a textile and clothing designer, with an emphasis on alternative fashions. I live with my partner and our two very fluffy, very pushy cats.

I'm a new member to the forums and a fairly new collector, as well. I've been fond of the MH line since it started, but only decided to take the plunge and buy a few about two months back, at the recommendations of a few friends. They suggested that I might enjoy customising and sewing garments for these very fashionable little ghouls, and were they ever right! So far, my little collection is fairly modest, but I'm enjoying every last one of them. I'm still getting accustomed to sewing at such a small scale, but hope to be able to share some of my creations on the forum in future! I'm also working up the courage to customise one of the dolls I bought that arrived with a flawed paintjob.

Dolls seem to be pretty scarce in my immediate area, so I've mostly been relying on online ordering, and I look forward to learning the tricks that fellow Australian collectors use for finding dolls in local shops.  I'm also looking forward to picking a few up when I visit family back in the US next year (a friend has a box of clearance and US-only release dolls that she's been nabbing for me now and again). I'm also waiting on a small haul of new releases from Amazon.

Of my small collection so far, Wydowna and Catrine are my two favourites!

Thanks for reading, I hope to get to know you all soon!
