Monster Discussion / Re: Monster Exchange Program

News from Le Tumblr... Webisodes Tomorrow !!!

 :freak: :freak: :freak:

Ok, the wait is killing me. This is worse than Amanita. At least for me.
I need to see Lagoona's new BF so badly! And Batsy. And Isi.

@__@

Wait, how many new exchange characters are we expecting?!?!
Isi, Batsy, and Kjersti still, I think?
There were rumours that Finnegan was also in the line (being sent abroad), but I'm not sure if people were right there.

I started with the one-per-ghoul rule, but that went out the window pretty fast. Now I kind of go through a process before deciding to buy.

My current process goes about like so:
- Local purchase or online (Amazon, etc.)? Local is preferred.
- Do I have one of this character yet? If not, is there another version I like better? (no to both = almost instant buy)
- Is it on sale? Is it on sale elsewhere for cheaper?
- Do I want the whole doll, or just the outfit? (if only the outfit, I generally back off)
- Would I be willing to sell another doll to get this one if it were necessary? (not that it is, but that's my litmus for whether I REALLY want the doll)

I think Skelita would be perfect for this one, really! I'd also like to see a release for Twyla, since dreams are her domain.

When are we due for some Girl Scout cookies? I never remember when the season is.....

I was told by a friend that they now sell online! They're trying to teach the value of digital salesmanship, so you can order online and your local Troop still gets credit for the sales. You can also see when your local Troop is selling to be on the look out for their tables at local groceries.

Is there any way to judge how well she sold? It took forever for her to show up here in Australia, and most of her lack of sales is due to the (very much increased) price point. After all, Australians are quite proud of all the spiders.

I won her on auction recently! So thrilled to have her in my little Werecat corner with Purrsephone and Meowlody!

Clean-up Crew Scarah? Heehee. I like her hair. I, too, was hoping for a 2-headed doll. Are people speculating Goolliope will be roughly double in price? Is she the start of those bigger collector dolls we saw in that post in another language?
I think she's actually another game booth. Sponge tosses are like balloon tosses but:

a) you don't have to clean up tiny bits of balloon
b) you don't have to keep filling/tying new balloons, because you can reuse the sponges
and c) you're guaranteed to get the person in the booth soaked, because sponges splash on impact and don't need to break open.

Considering the others are all carnival game themed, I'm guessing that she's the sponge-toss booth runner.

Went to a secluded shopping mall to pick up something from their JB HiFi, and decided to check out their Kmart and Target (WHICH WERE HUUUUUGE!). The Target had a massive selection compared to my local one, including ... a returned Threaderella. She had clearly been opened and returned, and was missing her diary, but everything else was intact and she only cost $16.40, so I snapped her up.

Also grabbed a Freaky Field Trip GiGi, because I adore her constellation-themed dress, a Sweet Screams Frankie, Art Class Draculaura (on clearance for $10) and the Mad Science Ghoulia/Cleo two-pack.

Bravestarr!! I still have 30-30 at my folks' place, and he's one of the toys coming back with me for sure.

I really hope they package her that way in the box. I also hope that there's a little insert in the hat for you to attach her hand to for display purposes. Otherwise, I may have to make one. Because that's too cute.

I love this doll so much!! I'd imagine rereleases would be a challenge since wardrobe for her is limited.
They had a TON of them at TRU when I went... I was really surprised considering what an awesome doll she is... I was thinking who coulda passed her up?

We had SOOOO many when I was working there. Every now and then I'd get the usual "ugh so creepy" comment but a lot of times people would comment on how awesome she is. Including a co-worker, haha. But I would always recommend her to parents who were concerned about giving their kids a doll they already had. I'd say "if they haven't been here in a while they probably don't have this one" and they'd pick her up. I tried my best to get everyone to buy a Wydowna.

I hope she gets lots of future releases the way Scarah has them nowadays. She's too cool a body mold to only use twice.

The creepy factor may really have an impact, though. My partner doesn't mind her, being a doll, but when I first opened her his eyebrows went up and he said "a spider? Really?" It's likely that parents are facing similar with their daughters, who are conditioned to see anything creepy and crawly and go "EWWWW!" from a pretty early age.

Lord knows I've spent many a frustrating afternoon trying to explain to my partner's niece why we catch huntsman spiders and put them outside rather than squishing them the way their teachers/friends parents/whoever does.

(I know their dad doesn't squish on sight, I'm not sure about their mum though)

Brags / Re: My significant other...

Not MH brag-related, but my partner did something that cracks me up.

He teases me about taking selfies sometimes, and knows I love Sailor Moon, so he got me the Moon Selfie Stick. It was supposed to be a Christmas present, but arrived too late. It did, however, come just in time for our holiday this month! Haha

I never would've bought one of these things myself, but the fact that he got it for me makes it just too precious.

I have a feeling that if there are any store exclusives for FDC, it'll be down to Wydowna or Manny. Since Manny's featured in the playset, I'm leaning more towards him being released in a strongman costume.

I'm leaning more towards little sister mould because of the statement in Cleo's diary that only Amanita was small enough to get through the opening and escape their tomb. BUT WE SHALL SEE.

I'm trying not to let myself develop a mental image of her if I can avoid it, so I won't be disappointed by her final release.

Im missing the old topic where we could show photos of dolls that seems to have been returned with the wrong dolls and items, it was very funny, but it's locked. I have no idea why it's locked, maybe because of it's age?
Topics that don't have comments after a certain number of days (either 60 or 90?) are locked automatically.

I saw a Student Disembody Council 5-pack that was returned with a Bee Cam in Ghoulia clothes in the place of Gilda. I took a picture but of course now I can't find it.

I think that must happen a lot. I saw photos where Gilda had been replaced by Rollermaze Abbey in fashion pack stock. Her hair was a frightful mess, though. I think someone took the safety scissors to the poor thing.

I like the idea of Sirena being friends with Vandala. Maybe the Salty Spectre's figurehead is what drew Sirena to meet her? And since Vandala is into Yo-ho bo-ho Chic, Sirena would probably bring her some of her antique shop/thrift shop finds.

The dragon babies were the best!!!

Well, I just recently started  with the MH craze, so I guess I qualify in that point... and I'm scheduled to watch Meleficent any of these days too...

Same. Haha

I'm almost always late to jump on things as they come out and put off watching or looking into them until way later. The fact that I've managed to keep up with Game of Thrones each season is impressive.

Original-sized Polly Pockets & Kooshie Koos.

POLLY! YES! I actually have a bunch that I'm planning to rescue from my folks' house. So far as I know, they're all still intact. I was pretty particular about keeping everything where it belonged as a kid.

I'm also hoping I can find a way to bring back my Cinderella Starcastle (the ones that had keys and lit up/played sounds). Ahhhhh. So many things I don't want to have to get rid of, but worry I won't be able to find a way to bring back!

Off Topic / Childhood Nostalgia?
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:23:39 PM »
In a few short weeks, I'll be travelling back to my parents' home for a visit, during which I have to choose which childhood toys are going to charity shops, and which are coming home with me. As I was planning in my head which toys I could afford to ship back to Oz, I got to thinking about exactly why I wanted to take particular ones over certain others.

Which got me thinking about their (sentimental) value and whether I'd be so attached to these toys if there were more current alternatives on the market.

Part of the reason I got into MH was that they are basically the kind of dolls I would have wanted to own when I was a kid. Barbie was fun, but She-Ra and her friends were always my favourites, and they didn't get nearly enough costume changes to satisfy my dress-up loving self. I also had a handful of Fashion Star Fillies (which made my Breyers look plain and my MLPs a bit unfashionable) and a slew of Littlest Pet Shops.

So I was just wondering, if you could see any line from your childhood revived or revamped, what would it be?

Jem and the Holograms?
Lady Lovely Locks?
Fashion Star Fillies?
Cupcakes?
Rainbow Brite?

Obviously She-Ra has gotten a recent revamp as a part of the Masters of the Universe Classics line, Littlest Pet Shop has evolved into something almost unrecognisable, Strawberry Shortcake has come back even pinker than ever, and MLP has been revived at least twice now. But is there a favourite toy line of yours that never got a second chance?
