Customs / Repainting a Liv doll, help with eyes?
« on: December 08, 2018, 10:48:21 AM »
So I'm repainting a Liv doll. I removed her eyes for when I took off the factory paint with acetone, but now I'm not sure how to proceed.
Do I put the eyes back in now, but have them get sprayed with sealant when I redo the face? Or do I put the eyes back in after the face is done, and risk cracking the sealant? If there are any alternatives, please let me know. I'd really love some input.

So, I remembered this thread and since I have access to viscose roving, I figured I'd try out a modified version CorsetKitten's method.

I started with with two thin pieces of viscose roving. I used a very small bit of soap (like just rubbing my finger across a the nozzle of the dispenser) and some water and rolled each one of the pieces up. I then twirled both of those pieces together, adding a bit of watered down tacky glue onto my fingers while I did this. It's still in the process of drying, but I figured I'd show you the preliminary results. I also tried just rolling one larger piece, and it still seems to work, too.

Today I found something I'm very pleased with. A lighter haired, white bodied (indicating she was an early model) Pleasant Company Samantha Parkington. And she was only $8. Her joints are sturdy and her eyes work wonderfully, although they do get caught on her bangs. If anyone knows more about her, please let me know.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Have you tried backcombing the dreads? I know you can make kanekalon dreads this way, but not sure about acrylic yarn. If you want to give it a go with kanekalon, you can get a huge thing of it really cheap on AliExpress.

Has anyone used viscose hair (like from TreasuresDolls) on any of their customs? How did it feel to work with? Is it strong? Easy to reroot? How does it compare to nylon and saran? Thanks!

I can't view the pictures, but I'd suggest using the benzoyl peroxide and sunlight/uv-light method. You can pick up 10% benzoyl peroxide cream at the store in the acne treatment aisle. Put the cream on the stain and then leave the doll in the sun or under a UV-light. It may take a few days, but I've removed even the most stubborn sharpie stains this way.

Has anyone tried filling in the hair-holes left from Raven's widow's peak? Super glue, latex, wood filler, perhaps?

As a very last resort instead of chucking the head, you could try carefully cutting a hole in the top of the head, pulling the peg out, and then gluing the head piece back into place.

Putting a flashlight against the head can help you see the exact orientation of the neck peg. :)

She looks great! You did a wonderful job on her outfit, especially those shoes. And I'm really loving her faceup. All in all, a top notch custom!

Are any EAH dolls a match to Hasbro Disney Princess Pocahontas? Maybe Rosabella Beauty?
Also how close of a match are Cleo and Signature Nefera? Thank you!!!

I've thought for a long time about posting here, and I may play catch up with some of my older hauls, but tonight I knew I had to start up my own brag thread. By chance I went to tonight... and found Spring Unsprung Kitty Cheshire. I got her for $12 with free shipping!

I feel UV light (sunlight or UV lamp) is super important to the stain removal process. I have a doll that got some sharpie stains on her during a hair dyeing experiment so I decided to use her for another experiment. I tried using just benzoyl peroxide on a stain for a few days and saw little change, but when I used the cream on another stain with my UV lamp the stain faded drastically within 8 hours.
