I was late to the MH collecting party (I primarily collected EAH when I joined this site), but I did manage to snag a few good ones before they completely disappeared from stores. Plus, I feel like there are a lot of people dumping their collections recently since the line is dead, so it hasn't been too hard to start my collection, but now that I've done more research on them I'm finding ones that I'm on the lookout for: the Freak du Chic playset and the Doom and Gloom dolls. It's such a shame that Mattel let the quality of ALL of their toylines go downhill in the last few years, because when you do find one of the older dolls it's very obvious that more care was taken in designing and producing them than even the G2 dolls, let alone what they're peddling in stores now.

EAH was the opposite for me.  I did not get into the line until I saw how gorgeous Duchess was, and yet I passed by every.  single.  rare doll.  Spring Unsprung Kitty, the Fairest on Ice girls, Dexter, Alistair, every single one I saw at least once.  Didn't realize it at the time or click that I'd love the line until basic Duchess.

I just sold my Freak du Chic playset, it was the only FDC we got at our Walmart.  I did actually see it on Mattel's shop for $40 the other day.  I agree, though, that collecting, especially out of box collectors, is not as hard as it once was.  Some have held value, some have skyrocketed that I did not expect to, and others plunged.  Plus, if you're patient enough, you can snag a complete, rare or formerly rare doll, for a great price.

EDIT: Ah, she's on the site, but apparently not for sale at the time unless I've missed an add to cart button.

I think that's right around when I started collecting EAH, too. I also passed over SU Kitty, Dexter and Allistair. It's crazy which dolls have held their value, and which ones have tanked or skyrocketed. The doll market is very hard to predict sometimes.

Has anyone been finding anything good recently at Tuesday Morning? I've been really wanting to go to one, but the closest one to me is an hour away. I don't want to waste a trip! :)
People have been finding the Fantasy line dolls now at TM. (Mine didn't have any, but it had a few "new" Silkstones that I hadn't seen there before.

Tuesday Morning has gotten a TON of dolls in after Christmas! There was the entire line of Royal Academy, a bunch of Enchantimals, MH (including the PB&J set at all four locations I went to today!), Descendants, newer Fashionistas AND a bunch of new(er) Barbie Gold Label dolls and Silkstones. I saw the Silkstone New Year's Holiday Hostess, Blush Cocktail and Red Rose Bouquet dress dolls, and a couple of the Sorcha and Blue Chiffon dolls.

They've started putting out the new Barbie Fashionistas as they mark down the old ones, so check your Walmarts!

So here we are again at the end of the year toy markdowns. It seems like depending which Target you go to, the markdowns are really good or laughable. (I laugh when the clearance markdown equals about 10%) DCSHG are marked down again, looks like the entire line is going to be cleared out. Barbie and the Rockers are all marked down, as well as a couple other random Barbies. Some MLP stuff too, but those pegs were empty, so I'm not sure exactly which ponies were marked down. (Looks like it was the leftover movie stuff)

Was meandering around Tumblr and saw that Angrywonderlandcollective found a whole bunch of MH and EAH at their Tuesday Morning!

MH included Electrified, Shriekwrecked, Garden Ghouls,Emoiji, some of the family dolls and the cute set of Draculaura and Twyla wearing the PB and J dresses! EAH had the back to School ones.

Thought I'd share as some of these weren't widely distributed; we never got most of these in my neck of the woods and didn't even realize the PB&J dolls were actually released ^^; (seriously, if someone finds a good set of DL and Twyla pack, let me know!)

The only time I ever saw the PB&J one was during the TRU closing sales...and I foolishly left it on the shelf because I was waiting for the next discount drop, when of course, all of the remaining MH dolls disappeared.

I'm really missing being able to stop at TRU and see what they have.

Thankfully when I got a gift card last Christmas I used it right away, and didn't lose out when TRU stopped honoring cards. Nice that Michael's gave customers SOMETHING for their old TRU cards….

I did come across a receipt recently from one of my all-time TRU 'finds' days - I got an MH fashion pack for THREE CENTS (I know! I had to price scan it several times, I couldn't believe it! lol) plus got a Moanica d'Kay & Draculaura two-pack for $3.98, plus a few other things.
That's awesome! I miss going there to check out new stuff, too. I was able to get a few good deals over the years, nothing as awesome as your 3-cent deal, though!

Has anyone else's store taken things that were clearance and made them full price again? The DCSHG Blackfire/Starfire 2-pack had gone down to $15 and is now back to $30 after they reset the entire toys department. A bunch of other DCSHG and MH dolls that were marked down are also back up to full price. And my Target has taken away that entire endcap with the retro toys, so I have no idea if they're ever getting the second wave of 35th Anniversary MLP that the other Targets have started getting.  :|

All of the Targets in my area are in the process of removing the price scanners so now you have to either find an employee on the floor (good luck!) or bring it to the register for a price check. I think it's a stupid move on their part.

Wha?!  Why in the world would they do that?
The employee I asked didn't know. They just said that that was the reason why all of the price scanners were either turned off or ripped off the wall.

So apparently TM has gotten a ton of Silkstones and other Collector Barbies in this week for between $30 and $50 each! I haven't had any luck yet, but it was in their circular and I've seen a ton of pics on FB from other collectors that have had better luck than me :)

That's odd, it happens every year like clockwork as noted here. It's worth scanning to see if things come up a cheaper price, sometimes they are mislabeled.

Mine didn't have much left. I got one of the SSC retro re-releases for $5, but not much else was left. There's a husband/wife scalper team that cleaned out every Target in the area, according to an employee I talked to :/

Off Topic / Re: Amazon boycott?

Penalized for taking bathroom breaks, penalized for being even more than 30sec late to work, water dispensers supposed to be full but always empty, the bus to the warehouse costing too much of the small wages they had, so workers started camping in the nearby woods, someone got really sick for repeated UTIs from being afraid to pee, others have collapsed due to dehydration...I'm sure theres more but i cant recall at the moment.
The strike is supposedly all of Prime week, so that in theory its hits them on the day they were supposed to have greatest profits.
Obviously I dont want to support them, but I'm poor, and have several hobbies that you generally need amazon for...

edit: also, apparently workers have gone on strike before, but amazon simply moves location to somewhere new, where they have different labor laws or something of the sort

Um, hate to burst your bubble, but most of those stories have been debunked and the employees that reported these conditions admitted to lying to the press. I've worked for the company for over eight years, and believe me, I would NOT be working there if the conditions were like that. The lack of air conditioning was rectified 6 years ago and it affected one building that was built in the '70s and retro-fitted into an Amazon warehouse. The camping out thing only happened in the UK. US workers have NEVER gone on strike, because we don't have unions. Only the European buildings do and their labor laws don't cover all of the benefits the American workers have. No one stops you from using the restroom, there are water coolers that are connected into the water line for the building so they are never empty. Most buildings give out reusable water bottles to employees when they get hired so they can have water with them at their stations. We have onside medical reps that patrol the buildings at all times to make sure the employees are safe and healthy.

I'm not saying it's the best company in the world, but it's not nearly as bad as those slanderous articles would have you believe.

Found Back to School Maddie there today for $7.99, which is way better than the $20 Amazon was originally charging. This gives me hope that maybe one day the new Sweet Treats line will make its way there, too.

Word is that the warehouses have officially sent out the last truck loads of merchandise to the stores, so the discounts will start getting bigger once the stock starts dwindling.

Also, they've started restickering previously clearanced out merch with "AUG" labels that make them full price again in the system. They call it "Augmented Stock" so people can't get the liquidation discount on top of clearance prices. For instance, the old Descendants dolls that went clearance last year that I bought for $1.98 are now back up to $17.99...

TRU's website is officially closed and they've been sending remaining stock to the stores. I went to my local TRU today (which was picked clean last week) and I was able to get some store exclusives that I'd had my eye on for awhile but haven't been on the shelves since Christmas.

The person who, on Thursday, said there were no liquidation sales is a shameless liar. We went today. Nothing was very well marked down (10% at best) but there were items that hadn't been there previously that I assume was back stock just lurking in the storeroom.

If you read my post, it says that "I heard" they were being postponed. I never said they weren't happening at all. I have a friend that manages a TRU and I was going by what they told me. Plus, it had also been reported on CNN that several vendors were trying to hold up the liquidation process until they could pick up their stock that TRU had failed to pay for.

Please don't call me a "shameless liar". That's uncalled for.

The sales officially start today. They're promising "massive" price cuts, so we'll see.

I heard that the sales were postponed by the courts, because the vendors haven't agreed to the terms of the liquidation yet. So I guess we'll see. A lot of vendors have already gone to the stores and pulled their merchandise to avoid losing any more money.

Talked to some TRU employees today while I was at one of the stores that have already started their liquidation, and they said that it will be announced by the end of this week whether or not the whole chain will be shutting down and filing Chaper 7 bankruptcy. But if they do file Chapter 7 they WILL do liquidation sales at all of their remaining locations, despite what the Forbes article said about them simply shutting the doors and sending merch elsewhere.

TRU is shutting down 180 stores soon, both of the ones in my city included. On the one hand, it makes me sad to see them go, but on the other hand I bet the liquidation sales are gonna be awesome.
In my experience, TRU liquidation sales aren't as good as say, Kmart, or some others, because they tend to send their "better' inventory to stores that are staying open and then get the other stores' clearance in return. So sometimes you can find some older stock, but they also tend to not do the deep discounts until the very end when there's little left in the store.

But we'll see! I've got 3 in my area that are closing, so that might make a difference this time around.
