Buy/Sell/Trades / For sale: 1st wave Ghoulia
« on: June 12, 2016, 09:40:10 AM »
I have a first wave Ghoulua for sale. She's in a pretty good condition, missing her necklace and those arm things.
Her pet was touched up with a paint. The diary is in German.
$40 shipped with a tracking

These I made myself. They'll come with the doll.

Chocolate egg toys are $1 each, 3 bigger girls (Cleo, Frankie, Abby) are $3 each, biggest Clawdeen is $5.

Shipping is $5,5 with a tracking.

So I accidentally got on the wrong bus yesterday and found myself near the store I haven't visited for months. Decided to check the dolls section and found this:

It was quite expensive at around $1.25 but I couldn't resist  The chocolate itself wasn't good, but when I opened the egg I melted. Just look at this cute little thing compared to the official Sir Hoots A Lot.

When I got home my curiosity came over me and I went to a nearby store of the same chain. I got home with these:

I hoped that every egg would contain a toy because of the price, but I was wrong

I got a bit frustrated at first with those pendants, but now I think I will still allow myself an egg or two from time to time, because I just LOOOOOVE little things

Monster Discussion / PC for Sig Ghoulia
« on: February 29, 2016, 11:40:47 AM »
Hi everyone!

I hope my fellow monsters can help me with price estimates:) I would like to trade a Sig Ghoulia and need to know her value.

She's in a pretty good condition, missing her necklace and those arm things (anything else?).
Her pet needs a repaint of white parts (which I will do soon). The diary is in German.

I made these for her. Not original, but better than nothing:)

Trader Support / Bonanza and other eBay alternatives?
« on: March 15, 2015, 07:35:10 AM »
So I dipped my toes in selling on eBay and I can't say I love it. The fees are high (10%), then come PP fees (5-6%) and this "buyer is always right" attitude.
I was surprised sellers can't leave negative or neutral feedback to buyers. And now I've got a not paying buyer, who became "no longer registered with ebay" after making me wait for 4 days. Had I read the feedback, I would have been aware of possible non-payment and could propose to cancel the bid and make a second chance offer. But it was a 100% positive feedback and I learnt too late. C'mon, eBay, your money comes from sellers! Don't you want to take some care about them?
I started searching for alternatives and found several other places to sell various items. One of them was Bonanza, which ranked high among online selling sites. So do you buy from or sell at any other international sites like eBay (excluding sites for handmade things like Etsy)?

Trader Support / Brand new ebay buyer with 0 feedback???
« on: February 28, 2015, 12:32:47 AM »
I week ago I got a 'test' order from one of on-line shops and placed two Novi Stars on ebay. Auction for Doe a.Deer started on Feb, 20th and ended Feb, 23rd. I got paid (but as I'm a new seller, they froze those money, until buyer gets the item). I shipped her next day and I have the tracking. BUT after reading a bit about paypal screwing established seller with tons of positive feedback despite common sence and info provided are all for the seller, I got a bit nervous :drop:. I went to my ebay page and what do I see? The buyer registered on Feb, 21st 2015 (right during my auction) and doesn't have any feedback.  :freak:
Paypal Transaction Details page says I am eligible for seller protection. But I am from Russia (I believe, it is considered a high-risk of fraud country) and have no feedback as a seller.
So, have you ever sold anything to buyers, recently registered with ebay?

Customs / Rosy Thorn WIP
« on: February 19, 2015, 03:03:07 AM »
I finally got to repainting my long ago re-haired Frankie. I want to make something flowery on her head, she'll be a rose.

Here are some pics of my third ever repaint:) It's still not finished, but I finally kinda understood how to work with watercolor pencils.

I'll add some eye shadow and rouge and, I still haven't decided, if I want to leave the lips solid like that or maybe redo them with pastels. What do you think?

Buy/Sell/Trades / GO#1 all shipped; GO#2 all shipped
« on: February 13, 2015, 11:23:01 AM »
So lets gather together for the happiness of all doll collectors:)

I am helping arena members to order dolls from Russian on-line shop.
Some prices ($1=58 rub at the moment):
Novi Stars MiMi Merize   1411 rub
Novi Stars Vera Tabray   1411 rub
Novi Stars Doe A.Deer   1183 rub

PP fees depend on your country. Standard fee is 3.9%+$0.3, if you are from Canada or US, 0.5% is added to the fee (total fee is 4.4%+$0.3). Additional % for European countries differs (0.4-1%)

Shipping from me to any country depends on weight only (I will ship with tracking). I will give prices in rubles and approximates in US dollars (PP fee is not included in these estimates).
1-100 grams 200rub = $3.45
101-250 grams 270rub = $4.66
251-500 grams 394rub = $6.8
501-1000 grams 608rub = $10.4
1kg-2kg 1106rub=$19.1 (that is max allowed weight)

Please, write in comments if you want me to debox dolls.

Trader Support / Poll: need your opinion on handmade shoes pricing
« on: November 29, 2014, 10:23:19 AM »
Hey, friends! I'm considering price adjustments in my shop (or giving up making shoes for dolls at all) and I need your opinion. It OK if you just vote without explaining. The question is not about my shoes specifically, but about handmade shoes in general. You may choose 2 options.
Thanks for help!

And just a pic of shoe boxes:D I like making them:)

Brags / Custom swap doll from Dludnerad
« on: November 15, 2014, 10:27:11 AM »
So I can't wait any longer. You all MUST see this doll.

I participated in the Custom Swap and got a doll from Dludnerad. Here's this handsome hearbreaker

His name's Lewis Cheshire. I believe, it's obvious who his parent is :) More pics, because this amazing manster deserves all the attention he gets

He's got a pet - Mr.Bunny. Isn't he the cutest "little" fellow?

And his boots are amazing

Every girl in this room is crazily in love with him (including me  :inlove:)

Sorry for my poor photorgraphy skills, there hasn't been a doll I enjoyed photoghraphing that much yet.

Awesome custom sticky!

Customs / Custom doll for skitterbug
« on: October 27, 2014, 10:38:48 AM »
I was making a custom doll for skitterbug. That was my first full custom experience and at first I had no idea what to do. Then I saw "birds, please" and "cockatoo of some sort" in the answers and this lady stuck in my mind.
My inspiration was a galerita cockatoo, so I named her Rita Gale (I'm not very inventive with names ).

She likes history and everything about pirates. She dreams to become an explorer or an archeologist and find all sunken ships in the world with their treasures. She is a friendly ghoul but she has a secret. She suffers from split personality. Her other ME is evil and self-centered and causes her much trouble. Most of the time Rita is able to control the other personality, but she has to wear an eye patch all the time. When something causes the eye patch to be removed, the evil takes control over her body. Her mind stays awake and has to observe everything.

The beak is removable and holds in place with a magnet. I tried to keep design as elegant as I could and use one of skitterbug's favorite neons. And while I was waiting for the shipping address, I finished a second outfit (but was tooo lazy to change her clothes again ^^;)

Sorry for late nigh photos, I'm one of those who gets the most creative and productive the last couple of days before deadline :P Hope, skitterbug will enjoy the doll :)

I almost finished making the basic pattern for big girl's body (Nefera, Clawdia, Bloodgood), I only need to tweak the sleeve. I used method described here, here and here.
That's the result.

Patterns for a very-very stretchy fabric with 1 seam and just stretchy fabric with side seams and a back seam.

And that's the Beyonce outfit pattern.

Note: always add seam allowance and place for velcro or snaps! These patterns are not made to overlap, I usually add 0.5 cm to one half of a back for a snap and 1 cm to another half. Than I fold that 1 cm in half. This way I have 0.5 cm from both halves that overlay and one half has a neat edge.
The test run.

But I don't have any ideas what to sew yet. I thought, maybe I could take step-by-step pics of how I turn this basic pattern in what I want and post them here, if anyone is interested. What design would you like to see created?

Customs / Rescuing Nefera
« on: April 22, 2014, 08:09:14 PM »
Thanks to a wonderful member from here (who hasn't been online much during past two weeks :( I'm worried, you hear me!?) I have a Nefera to rescue. She's missing half one leg. My Clawdia had to tolerate the process of mold-making, so that Nefera could have her prosthetic leg. It's the first casting without any colorants added.

I need to round the top and find the way to attach it to the thigh. I'm thinking about a strong magnet in the thigh and a bent metal strip on the top of the leg. If this works out, she'll be as mobile as new. I have a plan-B too, but I really hope plan-A works.

Off Topic / Russian post is a branch of hell
« on: March 06, 2014, 07:15:25 AM »

I had a very stressful day today and just want to vent a bit. On Sunday I listed few things on etsy and they got some got sold within 24 hours. I was so happy and went to post office the next day. I looked the prices for postal services on the official internet site of the Russian post. In Russia there are 2 ways of paying for most postal services: cash or stamps. If you pay with cash, you pay a tax. So you pay less if you buy stamps and that was what I did. But the girl refused to send package with stamps and said it could be done only with cash payment and tax. She couldn't answer my question on why they had prices for those services on their website. So I decided to try and send from the main post office in my town. Which didn't help.
Hot line operator confirmed I was right. After searching info on the internet I learned that people in other cities face same problems and there are some effective ways to teach post office workers how to do their job properly. So I filed an e-mail report and decided to pay with cash this time while I wait for the answer.
Today I went to post office and sent parcels. But when I heard the price I realized that something was wrong. And indeed the cheque read LAND instead of avia. I realized, I forgot to specify and the girl didn't bother to ask. She rudely said she wouldn't change anything and I went home dissapointed. Both parcels were for United States. Can you imagine how long it would take for them to sail across the ocean?!
After coming home I messaged both buyers and refunded the difference. But it still felt wrong. So I decided to take parcels back even if it ment loosing money I paid and send them again via air freight. I called my post office 25 minutes before closing and ask if I can take them back and if I should repackage them. The girl answered that the receipts could be reversed and wouldn't loose money. I ran like mad and was there in 5 minutes. The girl on the phone wasn't the same girl who processed my shipments. So I was refused once again. I had to burst into tears to persuade her to make changes. She was grumpy all the time and talked rudely to me, but did what I asked.
I came home happy but tired. Now I'm waiting for the reply on the stamps issue and I won't leave it unaddressed.

Thanks to all who read it all:) It was releasing to share all this.
