Off Topic / Amazon tricked me, bad business
« on: May 21, 2017, 09:02:52 AM »
This is also posted on the MLP Arena.  But I think it is important enough to post here also as a warning/heads up.

Ok, let me tell you what happened just a little while ago.

I was about to place an order on Amazon.

While placing the order, the screen said I would get free shipping on my item if I answered a question.  I felt like this was just some survey and didn't mind the question, so I answered it.  Well, I was immediately charged for a YEAR of Prime membership after submitting my answer..!!   There was NO confirmation of the fact it was for Prime nor for the amount of the charge..!  Thank heaven we just got paid and had the money.  I cancelled right away.  But now $105 is tied up for 3-5 business days until the refund comes through.  What a rotten trick!!!   >_<

I do not have Prime and do not want it at this time.  I don't order much or use the other services.

Please be careful if you don't have Prime when ordering from Amazon.  I guess this is their new tactic to get people to sign up for membership.    :mad:

I have sent Amazon an email telling them I thought this was tricky.  I am disappointed.  I used to love Amazon, but I am stunned by this latest move.  I don't know why a quality company needs to resort to such methods.  I am not happy about the sudden charge.  I am not happy about having money tied up for up to a week.  We are on a budget and this was not in it..!  If it had been a week later we may have also had an overdraft fee from the bank because of lack of funds.   This is NOT ok.  I am sure some people will get this and it's not good.   :(

*ugh*  *sigh*

Thanks for letting me rant.   I also wanted to warn others who may not have Prime.  I don't want someone else to end up with tied up funds, or worse, an overdraft fee from the bank!

Monster Discussion / Hair Spray? (Can you use it on doll hair?)
« on: November 09, 2016, 08:02:50 AM »
I'm just wondering if hair spray (like the kind you or I would use) can be used on doll hair.

I have an idea for next Halloween and I need tall hair on the doll for it to work.  lol!

So, is human hair spray ok for doll hair?  Or is this a big no-no?  I've never tried it before!

Clawdeen's Closet / New dress for 28 inch Skelita!
« on: November 06, 2016, 10:39:07 AM »
I haven't bought any new MH dolls in a long time.  Though I play with them more, as I have three step-daughters now.   ;)

But I had to cave the other day on the 'giant' 28 inch Skelita!  I always thought those big dolls were cool, but didn't have any interest in the generic characters.  But when I saw Skelita I couldn't get her out of my mind, lol!

Long story short, I have had her since Friday and I already made her a new dress:

I also tried to recreate the hairstyle shown on her box art.

It's a simple dress, though I did add some side stitches to make the top nicely fitted.  There is velcro in the back, but it needs redone, as it is too loose.  (I have the straps tied together in the back for pics.)

The color is a deep purple and the pattern on the bottom is butterflies in lighter purple.  This is made from a dress that my youngest stepdaughter grew out of recently.  So, one perk of her growing out of things means nice fabric for crafts.  LOL!

There is also a sparkly scarf made from another scrap of fabric.  I think it works, but I am not the best at fashion.  So, what to you think?  Keep it or lose it?

I may end up trying to make some shoes to match, as I did/can remove her stock pair.  (Image of her feet under spoiler.)
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I hope you enjoy seeing giant Skelita in a different dress!  :)

Buy/Sell/Trades / Looking for a nude Isis Dawndancer...
« on: February 20, 2016, 02:22:16 PM »
I was happy to find Isis Dawndancer today, as tomorrow is my birthday she is a gift to myself.

But, after opening her and removing her stock I found some issues...

One finger has a deep gash, almost half way through.  And one foot has a black mark IN the plastic.  :/

So, now I want a replacement.  Does anyone here have a nude Isis Dawndancer for sale?  I would have returned her to Walmart, but she was the only one.  :(

Thanks for looking!

Buy/Sell/Trades / BJD pet cat "Wong Dynasty" for sale! - SOLD!
« on: December 23, 2015, 04:31:16 PM »
~~~This kitty is now on hold / SOLD!~~~
NOTE - I slightly modded the head.  They eyes are more open and the cheeks were sanded for a slimmer profile.  It looks smooth to me, but may not be perfect.  This is also no longer factory fresh.  If this bothers you, please just don't buy, thank you!
I have had this doll for a few years now, sadly most of the time was spent packed in the box.  I had plans to paint it, but I never did.  So I am going to sell and give someone else a chance to enjoy!
the original box
A pair of light purple glass eyes (original eyes)
a credit card sized certificate
a restringing kit
the nude Wong kitty (of course!)
I am asking for $75   However, I am more than willing to consider other offers!  I am not looking for trades at this time, just money right now. ~~~This kitty is now on hold / SOLD!~~~
Thanks so much!
PS - I also have posted this on the MLP Arena!
Off Topic / Justifying large "want" purchases
« on: December 23, 2015, 09:45:37 AM »
As collectors I am sure we have all been here.  We find something we want and it's expensive.  It's not a need by any means.  There are better things the money can go towards.  So, how do you justify the expense?  :/
Lately I have cut *way* back on my collections.  Sold a lot of items (still need to sell more).  I also don't buy near as much anymore either.  Trying to keep my 'junk' to a minimum.
But yesterday I saw something online that I really fell in love with.  It's a bjd pet.  Of course it's a limited item and I only have about a week to decide to buy before production is cut off.  The price for just the nude pet plus shipping is right at $200.  It's a big amount for me.
I have some things I can sell quickly and get the money.  But, I know from past experience I will feel so bad for 'wasting' this much money on a single item.  An item I don't really need, just something I want.  I had a cute bjd anthro cat a few years back.  But I ended up selling it, mostly because I felt bad about having a few hundred dollars locked up in a 'toy'.  :/
So... I don't know.  I want this item and I am sure I would enjoy it.  I can come up with the money.  I just know that in the back of my mind will be the nagging feeling of "You spent $200 on this toy?!".  *ugh*
How do you deal with this struggle?  (If you deal with it, maybe this doesn't bother other people.  lol)
Draculaura's Darkroom / Good use for Kiyomi's dress? (Redress fun!)
« on: December 20, 2015, 10:41:51 AM »
First off, I hope this is the correct forum!   If not, please do forgive me.  I am trying to do it right.  :blush:
Ok, so I was washing my Dance Class Rochelle's hair today.  Trying again to get out the glue grease.  Yuck!
While she was drying I thought about having her try on some other outfits.  Just for fun.  When I put her in Kiyomi's dress, I felt like it worked!
Here she is:
What do you think about the shoe choice?  I think it brings out the streaks in her hair and her eye makeup.  But I wasn't sure if it worked overall.
And this shot just looked cool to me so I wanted to share it too.  :)
Let me know what you think!  (Positive or negative!)
Customs / Hair types on different MH dolls..?
« on: December 19, 2015, 06:13:15 PM »
I have to say I am a sucker for the super-silky hair of signature Spectra.  (She is still my #1 doll!)
Kiyomi also has this great silky type of hair!  If I am not mistaken, at least some Ghoulia releases also us this.
I am curious, what other MH dolls have this super silky type of hair?   I *love* the silky hair!!  :love:
And while on the topic of hair, are there more than two types of MH hair in general?  I will just say 'normal' vs 'silky'.
 I think that Bonita's hair may be a unique type?  It's super long, but seems not to be the 'normal' or the 'silky' type.  Obviously Honey Swamp has those amazing curls!
Any other hair types?
Trader Support / Not new, not cool. - Update!
« on: December 19, 2015, 07:54:23 AM »
~~~ UPDATE ~~~

The seller got back with me very quickly.  They said that they sent me the wrong dress, and it was a mistake.  I got a full refund.  They also said they were sending me a new dress.   ^.^

Even if I don't get the new dress from them (which I hope I do) at least I have a full refund!

If I do get a new dress, I will try to clean this up some and let my fiance's girls have it.  If it comes out nice enough.  (The seller told me to keep it, I did offer to send it back.)

Just a little vent really..

I won an eBay auction the other day from someone with 100% positive feedback.  The photos and description say "New out of package!".  So, I was expecting a new, clean item.  It was a MH outfit, Ghouls Rule Abbey's to be exact.

The package arrived today and I was happy to open it.  It was packed very well, expectations were high.

But after opening the dress, I was unhappy right away.  The fluffy white cuffs are dirty.  The edges of the dress are obviously worn.  I would use the word tattered.  I know that is the style, but it is much more than that.  The black part was matted  together.  The pink has strings coming loose/ is fraying.  It just looks dingy (dirty) overall.

If you look closely at the snowflake pattern part, you can tell it is not the dress in the picture.  I know that eBay allows stock photos (which I dislike) but still.   The dress pictured and describes is NEW, mine is far from NEW.

Needless to say I am not happy.  I paid $10 before shipping for this outfit.  And I went with this seller because it claimed NEW.  So... now I am out money and have something I am not at all happy with.  :/

I sent the seller a message, letting them know why I am unhappy.  I requested a refund, and my willingness to return the item.  I want to give them a chance to make it right.  They do have excellent feedback.

Wish me luck?  I know $10 isn't a lot to be out, but I was looking forward  to this.  I had plans for this dress and a specific doll.  Now I have to try again and hope I can actually get a *new* outfit and not one that has obviously been played with.  :/

Edited to add some pics:

This is the "new" dress I got.  :/

Draculaura's Darkroom / Picture request - Catrine (Ghoul Talk vs Fitness)
« on: December 11, 2015, 08:08:32 AM »
I have a love/hate relationship with Catrine.  I have had several versions of her, but I have sold off or given away (to the finace's girls) all of them!

I was in Big Lots the other day and saw the Fitness version.  I like her face, but not sure about the hair.

I am also interested in the Ghoul Talk, as her hair looks nice and pastel.

Can someone please post some owner pics of these two?  I don't care about outfits, just trying to compare hair and faces.

Thanks so much!  ^.^

Brags / Geek or super star? (My new Catty Noir!)
« on: December 06, 2015, 07:33:54 AM »
Just a few notes first:

I have not been active lately, but I have also not made any new Monster High purchases in ages.  Been drastically downsizing, though I still have a handful of favorite MH dolls.  :)

And, if you have seen one of my posts on the MLP Arena, you know money has been a concern lately.   It is, but this doll was cheap, and my wonderful fiance helped me out with something else. <3

Now to my brag!

I've wanted a Catty Noir doll for a long time, however I never liked any of her releases.  The signature was just too much for me, those silver boots and all was just not me.  New Scaremester was bad, as I *hate* glove hands!!  I was sooo excited to see the Boo York release in person.  But when I did, I saw that not only did she have glovelike hands, but her entire forearms were pink webbing.  :/  Londoom didn't interest me either..  I was beginning to forget about her, until yesterday.

I was out shopping with my fiance and his girls.  We were at Big Lots, looking at the MH dolls.  I decided to have a look, even though I haven't bought in ages.  Then suddenly I see something I didn't know about, a cute black face with white glasses...  Geek Shriek Catty Noir!   I didn't put the box back down.  lol!  I was so glad to see normal hands, and cute shoes!  Not to mention I love the glasses!  And the best part, she was only $10!

Now, her outfit didn't do it for me, but thankfully I have a little box of MH clothes.  After fiddling with some outfits, I came up with this:

I am loving this look!!

This outfit has bits from different doll's outfits.  I think that is Toralei's shirt, then signature Spectra's skirt and necklace.  Spectra's first fashion pack scarf is there too.  The sleeves are from Ghoul's Rule Rochelle, and her bracelet.  Then of course I kept Catty's glasses and shoes.

What do you all think?  Does this outfit work or not?  Should I add a belt or something else with more white (for matching the glasses/shoes)?  Or any other suggestions or thoughts?

I am sure this is a 'boring' doll to most.  But I love this toned down version of Catty.   ^.^

PS - I guess the Geek Shriek's do not come with stands?  I didn't find one in the box, but I had an extra silver one on hand.

Customs / New wings for Bonita!
« on: March 22, 2015, 09:40:14 AM »
I finally found some nice wings yesterday at Hobby Lobby.  I customized them just a bit, and I love the results!

They honestly look better than I thought they would when I got the wings.  I am really happy with these!  I wish that Mattel would have released some softer wings for her, but at least replacements work well!

Off Topic / Non MH brag, got my curio!
« on: March 08, 2015, 09:28:09 AM »

EDIT >> Photobucket is being a real pain...  I hope the images will show up soon..  :drop:

Due to a few bad snowstorms and freezing weather, I had to leave this at the store for two full weeks before I could get it home.  Then, when I got it home, I had to work so didn't have time to set anything in it.

But I was able to have some fun with it today!!

Please excuse the bad pics, there isn't much light in the room where the curio is setting.

I currently have some of my MH dolls in the top part, and most of my Fairy Tail Birds in the bottom.  I just love it!   I have wanted a nice curio for some time, so this was a great birthday gift!   ^.^

Customs / old re-root job - Finished! Meet 'Serenity'
« on: March 07, 2015, 11:36:31 AM »
Latest Update:  All finished!

I wish I hadn't let her sit so long, I love how she came out!

This image isn't the best, but I wanted a full body shot.  As you can see she has a mix n match outfit.  But I think it all comes together for her!  Though, I would like to find something with more blue in it.  She has lovely blue in her face that I would like to bring out more.

I wanted to use the bone clip, even if it's in the back.  lol!

Update (3-8-15)  I got the hair all in!!

Looking good if I do say so myself!   (Now if Photobucket will cooperate and let this be seen...  :drop:

I will let the glue dry before putting the head back on the body.  But I am happy I got her done!  Poor thing waited long enough!!

Some of these pictures are really old, but that is because I sat this poor skeleton CAM down for ages.  But I have finally been inspired to finish her, and have some time this weekend too.  I am hoping I can get her 100% rerooted either today or tomorrow!

Here are progress pics:

This is how I left her.  With one single row rooted around the head.  Talk about a bald spot, lol!

And today's progress so far:

It doesn't look like much, but I did the second row around the head and the part area.  The rest should be somewhat easier.  lol!

Post Merge: March 07, 2015, 11:41:53 AM

Not sure why there are broken image pics..  But I will keep trying to edit it.

*grrr*  Ok, I think it must be a Photobucket issue.  Anyway, at least most images are showing.  Sorry about that.   :redface:

Buy/Sell/Trades / Want - MH Chairs and such, Cafe Cart etc..
« on: March 05, 2015, 05:28:58 PM »
I am hoping to find a decent deal on the chairs and maybe the table with the umbrella from the Monster High Cafe Cart.  A few small food items would be cool as well.

Any MH Chairs will do, but I am mostly hoping for the Cafe Cart ones, as I love the style and colors!

Please post here if you have some to sell!

Monster Discussion / Who has the whitest hair?
« on: February 26, 2015, 05:05:09 PM »
Since there are comparisons of body colors going on, I got curious about hair color.

I'd like to know which doll has the whitest hair.  Abbey, Frankie, Bonita..?  Any other doll?

Pics and opinions would be awesome!

Ever After High Discussion / Starting to fall for EAH dolls..
« on: February 24, 2015, 02:53:54 PM »
Oh no!  LOL

I have been able to resist these lovelies up until now.  I think their faces just looked 'flat' compared to the MH line.   But, with the release of Duchess Swan, I *want* this doll!  And I have been looking at more EAH pictures..  I like some others too.

I really don't need to be buying more dolls..  But, I think I am getting sucked in!  LOL!

Anyone else here start out reluctant on this line?  Or what's your story?

Just had to share my new 'dilemma'!   :P

Brags / Couple new additions, also redressed.
« on: February 20, 2015, 02:48:00 PM »
Well I got the nude Bonita from eBay to replace the one I bought at Walmart, and her face is just perfect!!

I also got nude Love in Scaris Rochelle from Attercop, and I just adore her!!  She looks amazing with her hair down!

I couldn't wait to dress them in something, and I think they turned out good for spur of the moment!  They probably will not stay in these outfits, but they are better than I expected with just the clothes I had on hand.  lol

And a close-up.

Just loving my new ladies!!   ^.^   Bonita is much better without her giant wings, and personally I'm not sure now if I will even keep her stock outfit at all.  I would like to get Rochelle's pale aqua shoes though..

Anyway, yay for new pretties!!

Monster Discussion / So, do you buy online?
« on: February 08, 2015, 03:57:20 PM »
I typically like to buy my MH dolls in store, so that I can check their faces in person.  I am picky and always try to get the 'best' face.

Thing is, it is hard to find a lot of the new or popular dolls in my area.  I only have Walmart and a very poorly maintained K-mart.  There is no Toys R Us here.  No Target either.

So I am considering getting some of the new dolls from Amazon, or possibly eBay.  But I am wondering if this is a good idea.  I would hate to order several dolls and end up just returning them due to 'bad' faces.

Just wondering how those of you who do buy online fare with this issue.  Do you often have to return dolls?  Or do you usually get a good face?  Do you have a preferred company to buy from?

Thanks for any insight on this!!
