Title: Anyone Else Love Blind Bags/Boxes?
Post by: Crriya on February 23, 2017, 02:45:06 AM
Anyone else in love with any Blind Bags/Boxes such as Shopkins, Twozies, Num Noms, Animal Jam, etc? These types of toys are certainly taking over the toy market!

I'm completely addicted to Num Noms and dabble in Shopkins.  ^^; It's a rather expensive hobby and can be a let down but it's so exciting pulling something you need!

Crriya, I have exactly one piece, lol. The Tsum Tsum Marie kitty with her awesome bed! I saw her at a doll club meeting and HAD to have her as a pet prop for my gang. Not to mention her Marie Antoinette vibe, heh heh.

My friend that had her gave me tips in 'feeling' the bags to figure out which one I was likely getting. I stood at the Target tsum display for at least 15-20 minutes...but I was successful. She's the only blind bag item I've bought thus far. Very happy with her.

If anyone else wants to feel their way to some Tsum Tsums, here's a blog post I found this morning that describes what you're looking for in terms of pieces and what they feel like:

Do you have any special display strategies for your collection?

I have a love/hate with them.  Yes, it's fun to pull something you want/need/can sell for a big profit, but I feel they're partially the reason for other toy decline as I've mentioned around here before.  They've taken over the toy aisle, kids follow the "gotta catch 'em all" mentality, and they're considered cheap, though as I'm sure many of you know, they add up big time.  Plus, it's got the "collect and trade" aspect that cards and such used to have.

Last time we were in Target, I was looking at dolls, but a little girl behind me kept saying "I want a blind bag, mama, I want a blind bag!"

My sister is in love with them.  The surprise, and the small size, they work to her advantage because her room is packed (we're really trying to go through things, honestly!)  And she has me feel and push around to see what is what, and I usually don't fail in that sense unless two feel a lot alike.

I'm not a fan of them myself, but can't criticize the concept if it's done so well. With the exception of figure add-ons to larger toylines (like LEGO minifigures and Playmobil Fi?ures), I find the toys included in blind-packaged lines to be rather underwhelming, and when it comes to it, I really can't get behind the blind-packaged idea. Sure, some people like surprises, but when the odds are skewed toward "duplicate disappointment", I'd rather just feel the bags to determine what I have.

I like the idea and some of the figurines but wow, some of these things are expensive. And you can't even guarantee which one you're getting? No thanks, I really hate the guessing aspect.

I love them! I started collecting blind bag/box minis back with the original Squinkies. Minis take up virtually no space, and you can display them very easily. This makes them pretty appealing when your shelves are full-to-bursting with dolls. XP

It's nice to see a fellow Num Noms addict! :D I collect Shopkins, Squinkies (G1 and G2), Twozies, Puppy in My Pocket, Ugglies Pet Shop (lol, they amuse me... XD), and whatever else catches my fancy. I don't have any Tsum Tsum figurines, but I do have a lot of the plush in various sizes. X3

As for display options, I've always wanted to try a tiered platform approach: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014PXHS98/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2OH7HZWOX8K07&coliid=I3VKMTXCRIWS8V&th=1

We don't have that many different ones here - still waiting on the MH minis. And the local toy shop had stopped carrying the MLP ones.

But I buy the MLP ones sometimes - already have quite many of them. :)

I do have the blind bag bug as well. I've always been a fan of cute minature things tho I tend to prefer ones with codes since I'm usually just aiming to get certain ones. One thing I tend to do if possible is stick with bigger packs if they have them unless it's something like Num Noms or MH Minis where some only come in the mystery packs and others only come in the sets.

With Shopkins I definitely prefer the sets because you know what you are getting at least with the visible ones tho people sometimes post what the hidden ones are too while with the 2 packs there's no way at all to tell what you are getting. I make an exception for the special series that only come in 2 packs like the holiday themed ones.

I love them because I love little figures, and love surprises. I can't even tell you how many I've opened in the last year.

I've been a blindbag fan for as long as I can remember. I recall my mom would get so annoyed bringing me into the Sanrio store in the mall because I would always want to get blindbags (store-made, I think that was their way to sell unpopular and damaged merchandise and not take a total profit loss) but then my favorite character (Keroppi) was seldom on the merchandise in them so I'd be sad.  :haha:

I do like the surprise of getting things but it gets old too when you're trying to collect a full set of something... Like Funko Mystery Minis are so addictive, but also drive me bonkers. Some of my main blindbag persuits right now are: DC Lil' Bombshells, Funko Mystery minis (so many subseries: Harry Potter, DC, Disney), LEGO minifigures (which you can kiiiiinda guess with a combination of bump codes and feeling), and MH Minis (which are less mysterious since I cracked the code on them but still).

For the most part, I like them. I buy a lot of them. I don't like the blind aspect of them, though. I don't like getting duplicates and sometimes I'll just want like a few of the blind bag toys or whatever from the set. But I will admit that it's pretty exciting when you open a blind bag and find a rare chase item. Still, if I can have codes to know which one I'm getting, I'm going with the codes.

Hello Kitty blind bags are my weakness. Whenever I see Hello Kitty figures in blind bags, I have to grab some. I also like Num Noms, though I think they're way overpriced for what they are. I also collect Shopkins, Twozies, MixieQs, MH Minis, Tsum Tsums, LOL Surprise, Lego Minifigs, Funko Minis and Puppy in my Pocket. I usually come out with at least two blind bags every time I go to Walmart. And when I go to Five Below, I always end up with tons. That's why I try to limit myself to one trip there every 3 months or so.

I like some of them, hate others. I highly prefer being able to feel. My roommate (with small amount of help from me) has gotten both of us the Lego and Megablocks figures we've wanted from at least 8 series I can think of.

If I can't feel to tell what I'm getting, I tend to get far less of the items, usually stopping after two duplicates. They're still fun, but they get less of my money.
Title: Re: Anyone Else Love Blind Bags/Boxes?
Post by: Ameyal on February 23, 2017, 07:57:49 PM
To be completely honest, MH Minis have been the first blind bags I have gotten in-store at retail price... and that was because they had the "option" to check which character you're getting. At the flea market I have also found Shopkins, Minecraft boxes, MLP boxes(Got a Discord and a Celestia)Disney LEGO(Got an Alice), Disney Keyring(got Stitch! :D ) and Walking Dead ones. I then checked the retail price and it *is* ridiculously expensive! Two or three boxes/bag and I could get one of the budget dolls!
MH is comparatively cheaper than that and if they ever got another batch(All my stores only got the second wave of series 1) I surely will buy more.

I love them! They're great for an inexpensive little bit of fun at the end of a boring shopping trip (usually to Wal-Mart for groceries lol) - I only really wanted a few of the MH Minis, just the ones that really caught my eye... but I do super love Animal Jams! They're such fun little designs! And they fit perfectly into the mini diorama world I just made recently so... addiction level rising!! haha. :)

I noticed the little colored doghouse boxes on a recent TRU visit...but I just said to myself 'nope, we're here for the MtM Barbie redhead!'

Wasn't til Myrcury commented on Animal Jams and dioramas (see?! my weakness!!) that I headed to google...and saw the same little colored doghouse boxes.

Animals! Wings! Cuteness! And they live in little roomboxes with FURNITURE?!

I'm sensing an Animal Jams purchase in my future.....

My sister loves Animal Jams, but hasn't gotten any in a while.  She's been looking for Suprizamals, however you spell it, but we've never seen them at all.  Not that she needs more stuffed animals no matter how small.

And wouldn't you know, I went a-looking for the Animal Jams on my errand day today. Didn't find any at Target. And the EAH/MH section was very very sad.  But overall, many areas of the Target I went to looked very sparse, picked over, so maybe they're getting ready to do inventory or something.

Guess I'll have to rely on TRU.

I really like some of the Twozies. But I really HATE blind bags/boxes!

I like little things, like, Little Kingdom stuff, and I like to know exactly what I'm getting.

Since I can't be certain that I won't end up with something I kinda don't like or REALLY don't like with a blind bag, I am willing to pay MUCH less for that unknown factor.

Like, one of the most disappointing experiences I find is to have doubles or more or something that was only "meh" to begin with. That's such a downer so that really comes into my cost I'm winning to pay just for the slim chance of what I really do want.

That being said, Twozies are cute. I especially like their dioramas and have bought all of them. Note how there are no hidden mystery anything about the dioramas!

I've been wanting to get into Animal Jams, but would I be "out of the loop", since I don't play the mobile game they're based on? XD I guess that's kind of a silly concern, lol.

There was a great sale on Twozies (and a lot of other blind bag minis) over the holidays, so I bought a bunch. They're so cute! Does anyone know how they're doing in terms of popularity? I want to see future waves...

I didn't even know there -was- a mobile game until I spotted the code on the last Animal Jam I got. I just like the teeny tiny animals lol. :)

That said, if anyone does play it and wants my codes, lemme know! :3

I watch so many Youtube videos of Blind Bag openings, but I really do not care to collect them myself. I do not think a tiny little figure that I don't even know which one I'm getting is worth the money. :/ (And don't get me started on those MLP Blind Bags where most of them are the Mane Six with a different color and Cutie Mark.)

That being said, I do like the idea of MyMiniMixieQs (as well as Gift Ems, and the LOL surprises, since they have mix and match redressability like dolls. Even though with Gift Ems I wish Boys weren't relegated to being drivers, and LOL dolls need male characters period.) but I can never bring myself to spend the money on a set. I'd prefer to buy a doll, or a Video Game.

For what it's worth, the MLP Blindbags have letter codes on them that indicate which pony is in the bag.

I'm really looking forward to the new Power Rangers line that Bandai showed at Toy Fair. That tiny Rexy/Gabutyra! Gah! And my Minecraft minis collection is grossly behind. I'm still missing some from Series 1! Time to creep some codes on the chest series I guess.

This is all aside from collecting the MH Minis, of course. I'd like to try one of the LOL dolls though.

Welp, now I want some Animal Jams. I had managed to ignore them all this time, but my niece watched a video of a case of them being opened on YouTube and asked me to buy her a few. When she's here, I usually bring her home a few blind bags when we go grocery shopping, so I got her two of the little house ones and one of the treasure chest ones. They're a lot cuter and smaller than I thought they'd be. And after looking over the checklist, there's like a dozen I want.

It's become a Christmas tradition in our house, I stick a blind bag something-or-other in everyone's stocking. Last year my sister got a Puppy-in-my-Pocket, and Mom got a Walking Dead dog tag. I picked an Animal Jam for my own stocking, figuring what the heck, its $2, maybe it'll be cute or I can pass it on if I'm not a fan. Yeaaaahhh now I'm hooked, LOL :) There's about a dozen on the check list that I want, too. haha.

Would anyone be interested in a blind bag/box trading thread? Since there are so many types of blind bags out now and since a lot of us collect multiple types I thought that if there was one thread where we could all post the duplicates from whatever blind bags we have and what we're looking for, kind of like the Shopkins and MH Minis thread, except this one will be for all other types. So like Funko Minis, MixieQ's, Animal Jam, LOL Surprise, etc. and that way we can also all trade across the types, like say a MixieQ for an Animal Jam instead of just trading a Mixie for another Mixie, etc. I can go ahead and start the thread in the trade section if there's any interest.

I really like that idea since I collect a lot of different ones and even if I have dupes in one toy I might not need any more from that kind. Maybe include Shopkins and MH Minis too tho.

I would've liked them more if they were cheaper. MH minis have arrived and I'm wondering if I can justify the price, haha. 2 blind bags or a plushie? 3 blind bags or a budget doll? I feel that I'd choose the plushies or dolls over the blind bags.

I have some Blind Bags. Namely some Mini Zelfs, MH Minis and some Puppy in my Pockets. Not really too interested in the concept though and I feel like the whole thing preys on natural human curiosity for money.

Hilariously, the blind bags I'm most enamoured with (the LOL girls) are probably the most pricey of the bunch

I did it. I bought an Animal Jams treasure chest.

Kinda meh on the critter...I got Speedydrop 1-132. I looked at the list and there were a whole bunch I'd have been happier with. I guess that's how it works, right?!

BUT...I'm happy with the aqua treasure chest as an MH prop!

I just saw a video on Youtube of someone opening these Chubby Puppies blind bag figures. They're so cute! I really want the Shiba Inu and there's also kitties and a pony. It claims it's a pegasus, but it doesn't appear to have wings. It's still really cute, though.

I had some good blindbox luck this weekend. I've purchased several of the "Alice through the Looking Glass" Funko Mystery Minis and have gotten almost all of the ones I wanted. The last one (that was really more for my husband than me) was Mallymkun (the dormouse). She was 1/36 and I found one box this weekend. I shook it and it sounded small so I went for it, and sure enough it was her! Usually I don't have great luck when I only want one character so I was excited.

Oh boy, I love blind bags!  I have loads of the MLP ones, and then a mix of some others.  I rarely have a "gotta catch em all" mentality, so usually I can be pretty content just getting one or two of a type to experiment.

Here are some of the kinds I like: MLP, Filly Princess (loved these, unfortunately haven't seen them around here in years), Unicorno, Breyer Mini Whinnies, LPS, Shopkins
I've also tried and liked Mixie Qs, Animal Jam, Tsum Tsums, and some others I'm probably forgetting.

I also looooove getting anime ones at Anime Cons!  Every con I go to, a significant amount of my budget goes to blind boxes.  I especially like the ones that are cute little figures, but I will occasionally go for key chains if they're really cute.  The only time I've ever gone really wild trying to get a full set of blind bags was this suuuper cute Free! Iwatobi Swim Club set that had all the boys in these adorable little inflatable pool rings.  I have all of Series One (with several doubles) and I looove them.  Seriously, they are some of the highlights of my anime collection to me because they're so adorable.  I have a few each from Series 2 and 3 but I decided not to complete the sets unless I see good deals because completing Series one got a bit expensive.

My daughter and I love blind bags and boxes.  We have Shopkins, MH minis, MLPs, Num Noms, Fash'ems, Animal Jam, the full set of Warcraft Mystery Minis, Trolls, My Mini Mixel Qs, Twosies, LEGO Minifigs, Playmobil, Teenie Genies, and a whole host of miscellaneous others.

Tonight she and I each picked up our first L.O.L. Surprise babies.  OMG they're adorable!  A bit pricey though.  As much as I love them and would like more, I won't be able to pick them up very often.

Love/hate for me. There's a few series I really love, Like the animal jams, I've bought a few of those.

But typically I fall in love with ONE figure and I don't feel like spending money and possibly not getting it for a long time lol. I have bought a few off ebay if I find them cheap enough. But otherwise, I enjoy watching other people open them. :p

I really only get the vinyl tsum tsums regularly. So adorable! I have a few different Funko Disney figures from different sets and MLP and a few monster high ones.

I'd love to get some of those weird/kawaii Japanese boxes though. Little animal ones or anime figures, gachas etc.  :inlove:

I found the Chubby Puppies & Friends blind bags for the first time today at Target. Of the four figures I got, the Shiba Inu is my favorite. My brother has one and I spend most of my time playing with her when we visit. I never really got into the bigger ones, but these tiny ones are adorable.

I take this back, I've been completely and utterly enchanted by the Shimmer and Shine Teenie Genies. I own 21 of the 130 girls on offer and have seriously considered getting the Carry Case for them.

I don't even watch the show they're from (as I am not a young kid nor do I spend enough time with young kids to bywatch young kids tv) but I love these girls so much!

What I DO like about the Teenie Genies is that I can pry an peer through the bottom of the bottle WITHOUT opening it before I buy it to see if it's a dupe or not before I settle on the 5 buck asking price.

Haha my friend's 3-year-old loves Shimmer and Shine. Don't try watching it, it's mind-numbingly annoying but the animation and merch is adorable!

I don't like blindbags unless i can know exactly what can i get from them, yet i collect some... I am currently collecting Safiras Dragons in interesting poses and Monster Friendz because they make fun pokemon-like companions to my medium Zelfs. I used to collect Lil Zelfs too but they stopped bringing them to my country :( I'd like some MH minis but they are rare and expensive.

Lego Blind Bags, but I fondle the heck out of the to figure out what's in them.

I've done a few others. As long as I have a chance of figuring out what is in them, I'll try if they are interesting and if I have a chance to get what I want...
I like that people are tracking the number on the MH minis, but with how hard it is to find new ones, I'm losing interest.

I hate the Blind Boxes though. No chance of figuring it out without opening them.

And the stupid Masters of the Universe boxes, where the characters I want are like a 1 in 36 to 1 in 48 chance of getting them. NO WAY!!

I collect MH minis and Gift 'Ems religiously, but I know the codes for the minis, so I can pretty much just get the ones I want and any duplicates I give to my niece.  Gift 'Ems 3 packs are great because I'm only taking a chance on one "blind" figure--the other two are visible, and none of the 3 packs, so far, have repeat characters in them anyway, but you can't get all of them by just buying the 3 packs, so then trying to complete the collection is really frustrating.  I either have to buy multiple blind boxes in hopes of finding the ones I still need, or pay exorbitant prices on eBay.  Yeah, so I'm not a fan of blind packaging in general.   :annoyed:

My niece loves blind bags, but when I give her one and the toy inside is something she already has, I get one of these: "Seriously, I already have this one!"  Complete with eye roll.  (She's only 5 and we're trying to teach her to be more gracious, but I get it, it's disappointing to get a "new" toy only to discover it's something you already have.)  Oh well, it is what it is, I guess.

This is what I do as well.  Well... it's what I make my husband do 'cause he's so much better at deciphering the figure by touch.
I have a bunch of blind bag figures of Pearl from Steven Universe.  I got them all on the first try by taking the hubby with me and making him feel the bags. LOL

I'm pretty choosy about what kinds I collect, but I'm very into blind bagged toys in general, starting with Re-Ment and moving into blind-boxed figures, blind-bagged Tsum Tsums... I like certain styles and properties, I guess. I'm not into all the various blind bagged toys that I see at Target, but if it's related to a franchise/company that I like, I'm generally more into it, or if it would make for a great doll prop...

The ones I'm into, I'm very, very into, and if I had the money I'd probably be buried in them, though...
