Monster Discussion / Re: MHA Eye Wonk Discussion Thread
« on: March 27, 2017, 06:51:42 AM »
I can't figure out what is wonk and what is normal for Silvi. Mine has the purple/pink color way to the right of the pupil but looking online it seems like they all do. My girl also has those pink paint dots on her ears. Maybe they were marking where to make the holes for her earrings but the marks are way off?

Yup those things are normal. They use the marking to know where to pierce the ears. Not sure why they do it with paint now when before they used a small dent in the mold.

Did you remove those pink dots with a little acetone? I was thinking about doing that but she has that sparkly sheen to her skin and I thought the acetone might change it.

My first job was at a video store. It doesn't even exist anymore! I made $5.15/hour.  XD

Right now I work at a vet office as a receptionist. I like my job a lot, it has good and bad points of course but overall I'm satisfied with it. I love pets, especially dogs, and getting to see them all day really makes me happy. Sometimes I get paid just to cuddle puppies, that's pretty awesome!

We do have some difficult clients and it is always hard when people have to euthanize their sick pets. (This happens way too often, we have several euthanasias a week, sometimes several in one day.)

I've learned a lot about animal medicine which interests me infinitely and I like watching surgeries too. The doctor who owns the practice specializes in dentistry and he has done some amazing things and saved a lot of lives.

Customs / Re: What do you do with the bodies?
« on: March 27, 2017, 06:16:50 AM »
i just sell that kind of thing on ebay. But I don't mind if it's just $1-$2 profit. I think some people would feel that wasn't worth it. I hate gloved hands, so I always sell them on ebay and I've sold them for $4.99 at least twice. I basically sell all small things with a starting bid of $2.99, I figure $1 for shipping, $1 for fees, and $1 (minimum) profit. I also live about 3 minutes from the post office and it has an automated machine, so it's not really an inconvenience for me to ship things.

You could just sell the bodies as a lot, that way it's minimal time and effort. I definitely would not throw them away. Maybe it's just the reuse it/recycling freak in me but I would never throw a doll part away unless it was badly damaged.

Monster Discussion / Re: Monster High Book Discussion
« on: March 26, 2017, 04:43:50 PM »
I finally read the first 4 books. I enjoyed reading them. It was nice to have some story behind the dolls I collect. It's obviously not deep meaningful prose but as long as you don't have those expectations they are a nice light read.

I'm actually motivated to go get a library card now so I can read some of the other MH and EAH books.

I'm surprised Melody Carver never got a doll.

I read some of the first few novels and here is what I came up with....

If Invisibilly is always walking around naked, where is he keeping those starbursts?

If Lala is an animal rights activist why does she let Frankie put glitter on her rats? And why did they glue a denim pocket to a turtle for the sake of fashion?

Monster Discussion / Re: Possible Silvi Variation!

My US bought Silvi has crimped bangs. I'm not sure what I like better after seeing the straight bangs. It took me forever to find one without bad screening and she still has some flaws. Mine is made in Indonesia.

New pics!

Monster Discussion / Re: New character? Griselle Grande
« on: March 24, 2017, 04:58:10 PM »

Also, Griselle Grande could be a daughter of Big-Foot as in spanish it's Pie Grande

Grande is also a french word, and I know french is used often in Canada, where bigfoot is often associated with...

Maybe Griselle will be Monster High's first Canadian character.
Hopefully not a Canadian goose XD that would be odd

Gristle Grande! I would love a Canada Goose doll, but I don't know how that would be monster themed, except they are aggressive sometimes. I love those birds. I used to feed them corn from my hand at my old apartment.

Monster Discussion / Re: "Party Ghouls" Abbey, Rochelle, and Venus
« on: March 24, 2017, 04:55:29 PM »
I've been watching the "Variants" thread in the EAH section, and those Rochelle's are just another example. It is so interesting. It makes me want to collect multiple variants of the same doll. I wonder what is causing these differences....different machines, different settings, different workers?

Age: 30
Gender: Female
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 190
Worst habit(s): Eating candy at work (it's free and it's always there staring me in the face.) Eating prepared/frozen meals instead of actually cooking my food. Not eating enough vegetables/fruits. Never exercising.

1.) What is your main goal that you hope to achieve with this challenge? Back story....I was super healthy 2 years ago but my depression hit me hard when I quit my job back then and I packed on the pounds and bad habits. A year later I switched to a new anti-depressant and jumped 20 lbs in a matter of months. So I want to get back to a healthy weight and feel physically able to do more (like hiking without getting winded) I have occasional back pain so I want to strengthen my core a lot!
2.) What is your goal weight? Ultimately 140-ish, I know I won't achieve this in 12 weeks but I know I can make a big dent in it. I'd like to lose 1-2 lbs a week.
3.) What habits do you want to break? I kinda mentioned them above, but I'll add boredom/depressed eating. There is always a ton of free unhealthy food at work that I snack on all day I need to cut that out entirely. I want to go the entire 12 weeks without eating pizza! I normally eat pizza once a week and I want to break that habit.
4.) What habits do you want to develop? Actually cooking fresh foods. Exercising a couple days a week.

1.) What program will you be following (in detail! Let's plan our success and stick to it!)
The points thing is a awesome but a little too complicated for me! Basically I want to get back to my healthy eating habits. What has worked for me well in the past is lots of vegetables, healthy fats and proteins and cutting out sugar and greatly reducing my grains.

My eating plan is kinda like this:
Nuts and yogurt for breakfast
Amy's frozen meal for lunch at work
Healthy snacks at work (fruit or vegetable)
Simple salad every day.
Dinner that includes lots of veggies, beans and either rice or potatoes for a starch
A frozen fruit smoothie (on days I work out this will be post-workout with protein powder added)

I'm a strict vegetarian but I do eat yogurt, cheese and butter. My cheese intake will be reduced to a small amount as a topping. I don't believe in low fat diets so I'm still going to have a little bit of butter too.

I also want to join a gym and go Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays (These days work best with my work schedule.) I like to do weights, machines and cardio.

Once the weather breaks I plan on riding my bike and walking a lot. Last summer I would walk to a pond and feed ducks, I need to find a duck pond near my new place!

Even though I won't be following the points system I want to do all the challenges that Danbo listed. I think they are awesome and such a good way to participate together (Claps for Danbo!)

My boyfriend is also starting a new diet/exercise regimen so I want to give & get support from him. He is a great gym buddy! He is terrible at cooking but can do prep work (I always make him wash the vegetables). This will also be great for our relationship because we haven't been doing enough couple stuff lately and have agreed we need to spend more time together.

2.) What steps are you going to take to improve your nutrition? Cooking at home. Cutting out the bad food and increasing the produce.
3.) What are your reasons for wanting to join this challenge and get healthier? Looking and feeling better. Improving my health and longevity. Fitting into my old clothes. I know it will help my mental health too.

1.) What are you going to reward yourself with? It doesn't have to be dolls at all! My reward system is if I lose 5 pounds and keep it off for 2 weeks I get a new doll (max $15 per doll)

Random thoughts....This thread makes me so excited! I think it will help my motivation a lot. I like that we aren't starting until April because that gives me some prep time and also I can start transitioning my habits now so it's not a cold turkey situation.   ^.^ :wow:

Those are so cool, my Niece would love that! I think the concept has been around for a very long time but it's nice to see current fashion and a fray-free fabric.

I had this computer game as a kid that printed clothes you stuck together.

These things are great for kids because it really teaches you the construction aspect. And of course you feel so proud of stuff you did yourself.

I love that you made a visual wish list, totally stealing that idea!

I'm watching it!

You have some interesting dolls in there. The Catty/Wyndonna and the rehaired Honey.

This couldn't have come at a better time for me. My BF and I have started a new diet and are going to join a gym. The deal is for every 5 Lbs I lose (and keep off!) I get 1 new doll. It's been a week and I've lost 1 Lb so far.

I'm so in!

Monster Discussion / Hair rehab!
« on: March 15, 2017, 03:39:33 PM »
I wanted to show off this Holly and some process pics. She came from a lot of child's toys. Her hair was basically one big mat with a lot of breakage.

I used fabric softener to comb out the knots, then rinsed it out. I also applied a tiny amount of coconut oil to smooth the breakage.

1. Super gnarly matted hair.
2. Brushing it out.
3. What came off the comb (Sorry about the old towel, I just use it for doll stuff.)

After pics...not brand new quality but so much improved.

I just love doll spa day. One of my favorite things to do with my dolls!

I love those outfits! I have those ankle strap heels in black that are literally my favorite MH shoes so I'm all about having them in pink too even if they are recast.

She does lack articulation, but drac bodies are so cheap it's an easy swap if you wanted to keep the doll (I'll probably just steal her clothes and sell the doll.)

I think this is a great step in the right direction for Mattel. <3

Are there any toys from your childhood that you still have? Let's play show and tell! I'll start.

This series (Yum Yums) were scented, and the amazing thing is that she still faintly has the smell in her ears. That smell takes me back to my childhood! I specifically remember taking her with me when my uncle and his fiance took me to see Beauty and The Beast in the movie theater.
