Monster Discussion / Re: Understanding Gigi Grant - why scorpion? why pink?

Ooh, I didn't even know there was a Djinni Whisp character and doll.  I will have to watch the movie over Christmas.

I've had a look at Djinni and I'm a bit disappointed with how similar she is to Twyla (who I don't really like so much).  Even though she's not pink, she's not as cool as Gigi !!

Have you seen the SDCC Djinni that came with Valentine? She's awesome with her poseable smokey trail instead of legs plus you have the option of being able to swap out the trail for legs if you're so inclined. Valentine was also a must have for me so getting the (rather expensive with shipping to the uk) set was well worth it.

Yeah Sweet Screams Draculaura is to die for. Probably my fave Drac of the entire MH line. I really wanted the SDCC Hexiciah .....but living in the UK I was never gonna see it in stores, sigh. Maybe one day I'll snag him on-line for a decent price.

It's been sooo long since I last posted in this thread. It's a complete MH desert here but I picked up the Vampire Kitchen today for 10, not too shabby, even if if I did only buy it for Dracs head because his default body is cr*pposa. Gonna swap bodies with my spare CAM vampire boy.

Yeah new Draculauras skin tone matches EAH Bunny quite well. It makes her the shorter height that she should always have been, I think there are numerous body swap pics out there but I can confirm that the bunny body is an excellent choice.

These things are not made by Mattel though, just licensed.

I thought the overall Mattel doll presence was very weak at T F this year. Last years DCSHG and Enchantimals displays were huge, this year....DCSHG? yeah just put them over there on a table next to that table with
They really focused on Jurassic World this year didn't they?

There will be plenty of YouTube vids uploaded once the fair begins.

Well Wilko in the UK have had the Picnic Casket set in stock for the last few months and with prices yo-yo-ing as well. Initially they were priced at 30 for dolls that came out FIVE years ago, take a hike! Then nearer Xmas they were reduced to 15, still to much imo. Called in yesterday and they were 7.50, yes at last. So of course I nabbed a set at that price, mainly for another Jackson variant. He's not the most exciting character, but, you know, it's another boy to add to my collection. So yeah my most recent purchase are 5 yr old dolls ;) it's not like we're swimming in new releases here in the UK.

Yeah she's the same height as Alivia, both being about an inch shorter than Twyla. Boy they are very cute, but that dammed lack of articulation is a real downer.

Has Mattel stopped making these episodes?

There were only supposed to be ten.

I read somewhere that a new series will be coming in March next year.
new season technically
In the UK we use the term 'series', so technically I am correct.

Is the top painted on?

Her face is pretty though

Yeah, it looks like it. At least she has full arm fins and all three are fully articulated, well apart from Clawdeens head due to the mask mechanism.

I believe some of these did get released in the UK. IIRC they have switchable heads and about two inches tall. I saw them in TKMxx a couple of years ago, I think.

It's supposed to be a textured patch of fabric stitched to her head, along with the floppy rabbit ear which is the same "fabric".

Monster Discussion / Re: How is MH Doing? Popularity, Sales, Overall, etc.

The only Black Friday MH deal this year is that Walmart has the Emoji dolls for $5. That's literally it.

In the advertised sales, you mean? Im still hoping well see some discounts on the actual day... Id love to get a deal on those new ballet dolls...

If this is indeed the end for MH (at least for now), then Im glad it had a good, strong run. There have been many gorgeous dolls released, and I treasure the ones Ive collected since the brand launched in 2010. Things come and go... I will still look forward to what the future of fashion dolls brings. :)

I just hope when the last hurrah happens it's not like with EAH where the only place to snag them is on Amazon.

It's virtually like that already here in the UK. I think the only shops selling anything new is TRU and Smyths, although I would like to be proved wrong.

I visited my fav ASDA superstore (Walmart) and there was absolutely nothing to get excited about. No MH at all, however they did have Enchantimals on offer and were selling like hot-cakes. Funny thing is that they had vastly reduced the amount of fashion dolls for sale. So I'm guessing that dolls in general just aren't selling in the quantities that they used to.

Yeah, the Entertainer doesn't stock MH at all. I think they're considered 'too scary' for their target demographic

I remember someone said it's because the owner is religious and believes that MH is "demonic". I've also heard they don't open on Sundays like Hobby Lobby and Chik Fil A here in the US.

Yep, that's right. They also didn't stock Zelfs for the same reason, RLMAO. Zelfs demonic?? It's unbelievable to think that a owner of a branch of shops would turn down sales because of "demonic" toys.

It's not just this two pack that this happens to. It will happen to ANY metallic accessories touching vinyl plastic. During the manufacturing process all metallic plastic are chromed silver, then they add a coat of whatever colour they want to get the desired effect eg a clear yellow coating to make gold, orange for bronze, red for red, green for green, and blue for blue. Unfortunately these colourants leech into the vinyl heads, leading to discolouring. In order to prevent the leeching I give my metallic accessories a coating of clear nail polish. The only metallic colour that won't stain is silver.

2018 is the last
The end of a melody is not its goal: but nonetheless, had the melody not reached its end it would not have reached its goal either. A parable.
― Friedrich Nietzsche

If it end it ends it was great while it lasted.. We will always have the dolls that we purchased and the great memories to go with them.

The splendid thing
about falling apart
is that
you can start over
as many times
as you like.
― Sanober Khan, A Thousand Flamingos

and if it ends there will be new things to love... new dolls to entice us and we will always love what once was.

The most important thing is this: to sacrifice what you are now for what you can become tomorrow.
― Shannon L. Alder
and be sides.. if it does end.. in the future we may see it again.. better than ever ( star wars anyone? Transformers? Countless other francises that have been re re re re built)

If it ends.. it ends on a good note.. it was fun and positive and we will go on to more great things.
if it doesnt end and all of us nay sayers have to eat our words well that will be great too.
I really am good either way.. it was fun while it lasted.. I'll miss it.. but i look forward to what comes next.

I'm ok with it because we got way too many Ula's, Clawdeen's and Frankie's...I just wish we got more Rochelle's Venus's, Catty's before it ended...
I would have liked at least one more catty in her new out fit.. have they announced this 2018 is the end? offically?

No there has NOT been ANY official announcement about MH ending, it is ALL speculation. In fact I read somewhere recently that we're getting another series of Ghoul Squad in March 2018.
I do however think that Mattel dropped the ball a bit with the first series of Ghoul Squad, I think that they should have rereleased the core dolls in updated GS packaging along with reboot sig versions of Deuce, Catty, Toralei etc.

You know who would have been cool to put in this episode.

I thought this episode was...ok...I suppose. A bit of a filler episode but it was ok.
