Monster Discussion / Halloween Swap?
« on: August 13, 2016, 10:32:11 PM »
Not sure where to ask this, but will there be a Halloween MH swap or is there not going to another swap until Christmas? Do we even do swaps anymore?

Let me just say how hilarious I always find it when I get the person I shopped for in these swaps. I think Hefty and I had each other for, like, three swaps and now Itzerly gets to join that exclusive club and I love it. I always view it as a mini competition when this happens aaaand...I always lose and epicly so. XD

Anywhoolde, there are no before pictures for this because I can never control myself around presents and I went nuts. Also, the treats are missing because I just started shoving them into my mouth as soon as I opened them. Those gingerbread cookies were heaven...heaven and I am severely saddened that I only have maybe two left. Did you make those Itzy?!

Pictures!!

I love Maddie and I love Cerise and I ADORE Ferrah, but my two favorite things in this box were not them it was those Ravenclaw socks(seriously, I have an issue with socks...I need help) and that drawing of SDCC Cerise.  <3 <3 Did you draw that yourself Itzy?!

I can't believe we're already at the mid-season finale. Especially since in "show time", pretty much all this season has taken place over... what? Three days? Is that right?

I'm pretty sure it has only been two days and a hell of a two days those have been. @_@

Do you guys know if the mid-finale is going to be longer or just standard run time? I forget.

I'm probably alone in this, but I wish the show would give up on following the comics and be purely its own thing. More than it currently is, I mean.

It kind of already does that though. It follows a basic outline of the comics, but things happen in such a different way that the show and the comic are really two different entities. For example Carol in the comics is long dead and was nowhere near the hardcore woman who will do anything to protect those she loves, instead she was mentally unstable and even slashed her wrist in front of Sophia at one point.

Yeah, that's why I said "More than it currently is, I mean". :| I just feel like the show would be better if it was taking its time to be completely its own animal, though - rather than "comics lite" or whatever.

You realize that to do that they would have to kill off everyone in the main cast except for Daryl, right? I'm just saying that if you don't want them to follow the comics even slightly that is what they would have to do. And can I just ask why them using the comics as a guideline is even an issue? Just curious honestly.

Comparing them to the Harry Potter series is like comparing apples to oranges though and unfair to both parties. Both deal with very different themes and for two the styles of writing are extremely different, as they are with every author.
I don't think it's unfair at all. Certainly Harry Potter is YA Fantasy and Hunger Games is YA Dystopian Fiction but they're really not that different. Reluctant, even petulant protagonists with unpresent parents fighting against a much more powerful adult antagonist with an army at their disposal... I could go on.

That is to say, I do not expect everyone to have the same skill sets in writing but it's entirely reasonable to want a certain caliber of writing.

Actually, it is a bit unfair. You don't compare A song of Ice and Fire to the Narnia series just because they are both of the fantasy genre, they are both vastly different from one another that to compare them is doing both books a vast injustice. Katniss and Harry may have similar character traits, but it would make more sense for you to compare her to Tris or that dude from Maze Runner. You are entitled to try to compare HP and HG of course, but it just doesn't make sense to me to do so since they are both so different.

By expecting a certain caliber, per the definition of the word, you are expecting all authors to have the same skill, which is not how art works. For example I don't like Jane Austin's style of writing, does that make her books bad? No, it just means I don't like her particular style.

I thought the books were wonderfully written. Comparing them to the Harry Potter series is like comparing apples to oranges though and unfair to both parties. Both deal with very different themes and for two the styles of writing are extremely different, as they are with every author.

I think, as is the case with every movie adaptation of a book to a movie, that movies were poorly done and left a lot out. Yes, there was more character development on President Snow's side, but many important characters were cut out and some important scenes were gone as well. One example being how close Finnick and Katniss became during the Mockingjay book, in which they became very good friends, but in the movie version he hardly got any screen time and the strength of their relationship extremely downplayed. Same with Katniss and Johanna, they had only a few moments together in the movie and you would never realize that in the books they become friends and even roommates at one point in the books.

I enjoyed the movies, but they are not as good as the books unfortunately.

I have no idea what to offer, but I'm really interested in Home Ick and Colored Skull Shores Frankie! Possibly 1600, as well. Do they come with their accessories?

Depending on the shipping, I would love to discuss a price and purchase those dolls from you!

They do come with accessories, though Skull Shores Frankie did not have any. I promise I don't bite, so just PM me with an offer and we can work something out.

Shopping with a small box shouldn't be more than $5.

Sales / Collection Clean Out
« on: November 11, 2015, 12:00:19 PM »
So here is the thing, I need money and I am kind of getting out of Monster High, so I have decided to clear out some of the dolls that I am not very attached to. These have all been on a shelf since I removed them from the box and since I moved have been neatly packed away in a storage bin while I came to the conclusion that I no longer had enough space for all of my dollies. So I shall attempt to bequeath them to you all.

Things of note:

-I don't have a set price, so make me an offer though do be fair.
-If you are a picky collector do not buy from me as a few have either glue seepage(especially my Clawdeens and Cleos) or loose hips where the elastic has stretched over time.
-I have most of the accessories and diaries they came with, just ask me.
-I only accept payment through paypal.
-All except Sweet 1600 Frankie and Clawdeen are first waves, those two are the Black Friday re-releases.
-Dolls do come from a home that has kitties and doggies, but is smoke free.
-Any further questions feel free to drop me a PM.

I'm about 16 episodes into season 1, I'm finding it pretty hard to get into... I think I need more plot development in Storybrooke.

It get's better as it goes on. Particularly in later seasons.

I feel like that isn't a true statement, at least not in my opinion. Season one was amazing, binged watched the entire thing and don't regret a second of it. Season two was just...god awful, the only good thing that came from all of it was Hook. Season three...the first half was good and then Zelena came into the picture and...ugh. Season four was boring the first half and then got a bit better during the final half with the villains.

So far I have only really been in love with the first season and if the fifth keeps going this way I would have to say it is a favorite as well.

am I the only one on this website who likes Henry?

No.  I love Henry. ^.^

Mmm...I think he is finally getting better, so I don't hate him as much as I used to.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

you seem to do a lot of unneeded policing of this thread. i understand we have a difference in opinion, but that's no reason we can't discuss it without you taking things so personally.

my statement had nothing to do with the amount of action involved, i was just really disappointed to still be left with the cliff hanger from last week.

I am doing no such thing. What I am doing is discussing my opinion with you, which you did not explain very clearly to begin with. You said it was a waste of an hour and didn't say why, so it leaves it rather open ended as to whether or not you felt it was a waste because it lacked the action of the previous three episodes. I'm also not the one taking things personally, just simply explaining why it wasn't truly a wasted hour and a half.

If you have been watching the show as the episodes come out since the beginning you know they do this sort of cliffhanger thing a lot. That wasn't an attack, since you could have been watching previous seasons on netflix or something, it's just how the show tends to work.
