Monster Discussion / Re: Cleo and Ghoulia Origins 2-Pack!
« on: June 22, 2017, 11:07:26 AM »
I really like this two pack!  How adorable that they have ghoulia being the explorer finding the mummy!
My only reservation is that I think a long gown/dress would have looked better on cleo, but overall it's not going to sway me from maybe buying them.
I wonder how much they'll sell for?

I'm more dissapointed in myself for how cute I think Frankie is here, but I'm not buying an unarticulated two pack and a normal frankie just to get her with a nice body :really:

Valentina is beautiful  <3 Glowa did a beatiful job, and your styling skills are amazing, Shahaila!  I need to get me a skelepuppy one of these days.

Thanks you two!
Firecracker, did you do her face-up? Her ears are incredible…do they come off or are they permanent to her head?

When you can, would you please include a close-up of her new eyes?

Beautiful girl!!
I did do her faceup  :)  Anyways, here are a couple close up pics of her face without a wig on, hopefully they  answer your questions! (I really need to get a wig someday without bangs for her... I really do love her eye brows.  Of course the one time I'm pleased with them the character has blunt cut bangs  :P )

Also, because you reminded me that I have a pair of big boots  ;)  A couple of random belts or something and she'd probably look like something straight out of final fantasy!

Thank you so much, Dogmom, and Shahaila!  I’m really enjoying the fact that I am messing with my dolls once more, so it means the world to me :)

Anyways, my bjd Duchess is getting some time in the limelight as her new eyes came in!  I figured I’d share her and all the outfits she has.  The first one was the one she came in, made by the artist who cast her, the second one is an outfit from etsy that I added a belt too, and the third one was a lovely birthday present made by my girlfriend.

Aaaa, that hair is to die for!  Very bride of frankenstein.  I also love the varied sewn on patches.

Added a shoe lot

Dogmom- The couch scene is just too precious!  That bed looks like it was made for them, if I had space that would be a cute way to display them.
Scarlett- Izzy looks fantastic.  She makes me revisit my desires for a pullip  :P

Ooh, I really love that you made Meeshell an actual mermaid <3  If she came like that I would have bought her for nostalgia purposes alone, as the little mermaid may have been my favorite disney movie as a kid

Oh thanks you two, I also made a note that the story is in the spoiler   I knew I did not make that clear enough as soon as you made your comment, dogmom!
Justkitter- SW Goo is perfection once you wrestle her out of that stock.  This may just be my bias on how much I adore Taffy, but... *whisper* Dooo iiiit.  To help you in your thoughts, here is a picture I took today by braving the outside world.

This picture made me realize my apartment lighting might just be terrible for doll photos  ^^;

I really hope these aren't exclusive to walmart again, last year I didn't get them until after halloween  :really:  Even then it was because Evilunicorn found them, I never even saw them!  Ugh, I love everything halloween, but yeah.

Thanks everyone <3  Taffy just seemed like the perfect name for goo, so I went with it!  She’s going to be a candy ghoul anyway, so it fits.

So let’s see, I have some new pics.  Last week I thought I’d have some fun with an on the fly photo story after I cleared off my art table.  Here is Talia (shibajuku girls namika) And wizziwig (a beanie baby monster of some sort)  (*edit the rest of the story is in the spoiler tag so as to not be too load heavy!)

Wow, Princess Carolyn looks fantastic!  You've come a long way with your sculpting skills, good job!

What wonderful ghouls you have!  Let's see, my favorite is probably cleo, wrapped mummies for the win! Jane too, who looks like she's deep in the jungle.

I am super amazed with all of you who have been keeping up with this challenge!
Scarlett- The mother's day pic is fantastic, and it's rather ominous
Dogmon- You have no idea how much I appreciate seeing custom bonita again, she's looking lovely, definitely glad she went to a good home <3

I feel like I'm active enough again to warrant having a thread  ^^;  (We'll see how long this lasts!  :P )

I'll start this off with my restyled gooliope (Taffy).

Also, my Kala who I dug out of the dolls recently and restyled her hair.

And my BJD family -

Customs / Re: Liquitex sealant - matte vs satin vs gloss???
« on: May 11, 2017, 04:46:50 PM »

Flat brush is at the left, the three in the middle are rounds, and the one at the right is a liner brush.

My left brush is, as mentioned, what I use for covering large areas with the base coat.  Keep in mind, if you're applying by brush the matte sealant will not appear as matte as it would if you used it in an airbrush or a spray on sealant.  To combat this I usually gently roll the bottle a bit before I use it to make sure the varnish is mixed up properly.  It should come out of the container as a nice white color, if it comes out clear it will not give you a good coat.  Once a coat has been applied let it dry/cure for a while before painting on it.  This has the added benefit of smoothing out some of the brush strokes  :)

The next brush over is the one I use to paint in the basics, lips, eyes, etc.

The right three brushes are the ones I use for details.  The liner brush is my favorite for eye lashes, but it does take some finesse to use.  As in I would not start painting with it on a dolls face, but on paper first to get a feel for it if you want to try it, but it is not necessary.

Hope that helps!

I work with the matte and gloss versions and they have served me just fine.  I admit to sometimes wishing I had satin on hand for a little less shine, but that will just come down to preference. I've also used the gloss on paint without matte beneath it and they have all been just fine, so to each their own.

For applying matte over a whole area, I use a soft flat brush that's about 3/8".  When I use gloss varnish on a smaller area like the lips, I'll use a smaller round brush. I'm cheap, so I just feel up brushes in store and whatever's silkier and cheaper I grab that.

Hmm, it occurs to me that I could take pictures of my favored brushes if a visual would help you.  Just let me know  :)
