She looks amazing, Roxx! <3

Thank you very much!  Now to decide which head is going to be the next Moxxi.  Must do another version.  XD

She's too fabulous. Mom and I both were looking at your work the other night, and she looked at the reference photo and didn't react, then at the doll and said "That can't POSSIBLY be a doll!!!" lol :D I love the way you tackled that whole 2d-into-3d thing! And so many little fun details! :D

That is the sweetest compliment ever.  Tell her thank you!!  *hugs*

I believe in this case "kindle" is a group of young cats.
Clowder works too.   :tora: :cat: :blackcat:

I love this look!  I have cool paper around here somewhere, must try this on a pony. Someday I will work up to customizing dolls...

I love learning new things so thanks for that!  :)
And you should give it a go but be warned, you'll be addicted for life once you dip your toe in the pool.  heehee  XD

I mentioned earlier in the thread that my hubby and I play the Borderlands franchise.  Love all of the games!   Thought I'd toss in a couple pics of my latest custom WIP for those who know this character.  Mad Moxxi  :)

Happy Weekend!!

Absolutely stunning custom!

Squeeee!   ty ty!!  Fakies are very different to customize but considering they have much less hair, they are also easier to prepare :)

You're welcome!
Anything art related is completely subjective. I've been into professional digital art, band CD covers, makeup artistry etc. for years. Some love what I do and some loathe it. What someone will pay is dependent on their attachment to what they see and how it makes them feel.

I can give you a....hey, try this amount of X cost, but it wouldn't necessarily be right our true to what you feel you've put into your work. You'll be able to decide an amount when you go to list the girls.  If you list at 90$ and think....well that seems low or....That feels like a lot, then adjust.

My first doll was listed at $140. That felt right to me and had nothing to do with complicated calculation. She sold in a few weeks.  It worked out. Just step in and give it a go. =)

I think most have different methods for their madness. XD

Some way under-price because they want to move their dolls and or are building their name.
Others price on hours spent, processes done and materials used.  (Example- rerooting or body blushing as processes - Example $20 reroot and 10$ body blushing) JUST examples :)

When you're first getting started it's nerve wracking to figure out how to price because you'll get faster at certain processes.

My best advice-  go with your gut and don't be too technical about how much time you spent because everything is new.  If I priced my first customs based on that, and wanted to actually make more than 2$ an hour, I would have had to charge 400$ to cover the cost.  LOL

Peruse Etsy too!  you'll see what others charge and can look at your work and theirs and get ideas :)

Customs / Re: Yellow hair? Help? :/

I mix nylon and saran all the time depending on what colors I need.
I prefer saran because it feels so much nicer, but sometimes the saran doesn't have the shade I need.

When I mix the two, I just wash and condition the hair after I'm done with the re-root.  It calms down the bumpier nylon.  I also use less of it in the plugs of hair than I would saran.

Hope that helps!  good luck :)

Just a quickie note here about a horrible fakie doll that I received from Aliexpress- the seller was named "
COME TO ME BABY " Store owner was - xiaojing huang.   I left a review there of the horrid condition the doll was in.  The head wasn't even truly attached to the doll and the "neck" peg stuck out the front of the ball which kept the dolls head from actually going ON the doll.  There's more, but I'm sure there are horror stories all over with the risk of a knock off seller and I knew that.

The better news
is that I also found an awesome fakie seller and received 2 amazing white dracu-frankies XD
I'm including a photo of the custom I made from it.
This store name (Also on AliExpress) is - Day Day Up NO.8 STORE  Perfect condition and my first successful fakie buy!  Never thought I'd be into them but she turned out pretty cool.

I saw Ghoul Fair Elissabat today. Am I imagining it, or is she much pinker than she used to be?

I thought the same thing and that's why I didn't buy her.  I liked that slight bit of purple undertone that seems to have gone missing.  :|

Worbla armor for commercial dolls: Part 2

8. Spraying with primer. Make sure your closure tabs are taped over so that the primer doesn't clog them and keep them from fitting later. Since we're working with small details here, it's better NOT to use a a thick primer like Rust-oleum's Painter's Touch Ultra Cover. That is good for larger pieces, but the primer pools TOO much in the small nooks and crannies in this size and it's harder to press it back in. I tried a couple of primers and really like Krylon K02518000 Fusion For Plastic, Flat White. It covers nicely without being overly thick, has a nice toothy finish, dries fast and is easy to sand. Whatever primer you end up using, follow the directions on the can. How many layers you need totally depends on how your piece is and what you're trying to achieve.

A little bit closer to see the metallic/gloss finish:

I'm late getting here but have been curious on these steps.  I'll definitely be trying it!  Thank you so much again for sharing, this really looks incredible.  My favorite are those boots/shoes thingies.  GORGEOUS!   :D

I took a chance on a couple fakies and scored majorly with one, but I SO regret the other purchase.  I knew something was going to go wrong and boy did it.  Deformed head, messed up neck peg if you even want to call it that... popped off hand with peg permaglued in the arm.  Granted it was dirt cheap but I know who not to buy from on the risky Aliwahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh site.  lol

My fault.  My regret.  moving on.

Here is another example of hand dyedThai Lace Mulberry paper being used as "skin" for this new little gal :)
I can't find many other textures but I like the two I've been working with.  If others experiment, please post your goodies!

Draculaura's Darkroom / Re: Daily Photo Thread

No smartalec caption for this one, just Billy showing off his new jeans. He's got a date with a dumb ghost guy.

I'm constantly reminded of how silly it is to have so many boys in shorts. :/ (At least there's no dress code at Monster High, what with all the minidresses and bare arms and stuff... that's pretty cool. :D) So I like accumulating long trousers for the boys. I need to make more for the girls, tbh.

Also I really need to make a light box

HOT HOT HOT!  I love everything about this image!  great job :)
