Off Topic / Re: any vintage fashion doll collectors here?
« on: March 28, 2015, 09:22:45 AM »
ME!! haha I love vintage fashion dolls.
I've actually been collecting them longer than MH/EAH.
I love Barbie, Blythe, vintage Barbie knock offs,  and I collect little random vintage dolls and take their pictures of them for my flickr. :)
My favorite older dolls at the moment are my 1973 Quick Curl Kelley dolls, Totally Hair Barbie, My Remco Heidi dolls, and my Kenner Blythe dolls. I also have a lot of TLC Vintage Skipper and Ken dolls coming in the mail soon. I love restoring vintage  dolls as well so they will be a lot of fun to work with.  :thumb:

I'm wondering if the Monster Fitness line will be similar to a basic swimsuit Barbie in price.
 $5.99 is about all I would pay for a shoe-less doll.

OH WOW!! I'm so going to Target tomorrow to check it out. Mine just had a bunch of Ashlynn and Hunter packs for the same price.

For my birthday last week, I received Mirror Beach Apple from my mother and Spring Unsprung Lizzie from myself.
Today, at Toysrus I scored Hat-tastic Maddie and the playset for $16....and came home and ordered Kitty and Ginger off Amazon. hehe

Today, I got a Toysrus exclusive Ken fashion set with a doll. It came with a ton of cute clothing pieces that I am going to use on my Barbie collector Ken dolls. WOO!
I also bought a few sweaters and shirts from Forever21. The first clothing pieces in my 2015 wardrobe.
I also FINALLY got around to getting the Sleeping Beauty blu ray. :D

Off Topic / Re: American Girl Discussion Thread

I collected American Girl for many years, but have had to stop buying due to cost.
I love the dolls, but the price of the dolls alone has gone from $90 to $115/120 in the last 5 years or so and I cannot justify that.
One thing I love about AG as a company, is they have wonderful customer service. One time one of the AG holiday outfits bled on my Lanie doll's face. She had a huge ghastly purple stain covering a good bit of her cheek and mouth. American Girl replaced my doll's head for free at their doll hospital and reimbursed me for the cost of the outfit that bled on my doll. Another time I had a Molly doll that had completely turned grey due to age. American Girl completely replaced my doll for free at the AG doll hospital and claimed the doll's vinyl was defective. I was so surprised and the new doll was just perfect.

I love the 1990's dolls.
My favorite of the era is Totally Hair Barbie. I love her so much that I actually own 6 of her....Some from thrift stores, some from Ebay. She Just has a way of multiplying. hehe
I even bought a hair crimper just to restore my tlc dolls to their former fluffyness. haha
I'm on the lookout for a good price on a Jewel Hair Mermaid Barbie.  :biggrin:

I recently bought a beautiful factory Blythe with mint hair and a mini Danboard figure.
I'm so excited to take pictures of them for my Flickr!

Do your spouses support you or just shake their head?

I'm single

When the cashier checks you out do they ask "Is this for your daughter?" ...Do you answer with the truth or lie through your teeth>?

I usually buy my dolls when I am buying other things and the cashiers never really seems to notice them.
Around the time when Ever After High first came out I was buying Briar. She was the ONLY thing I as buying that day. When the cashier saw what I was buying, I could tell she thought I was rather odd.   :bateyes:

Is MH the only "girl" line you collect?

Hahahahaha no. I have collected girl toys all my life. As a child, toy cars and army men were incredibly boring to me and I gravitated towards the pink isle more. My tastes change over the years, but i have collected
Cabbage patch, LPS, Strawberry Shortcake, American Girl, My Little Pony, Barbie, Ever After High, Monster High and a few others I am probably forgetting. I have started getting into Blythe dolls and I"m really excited about that.  :bolt:

How do you collect your dolls? MIB, or do you open and play with them?

I use to ALWAYS open them up and play with them, but some looks so pretty in their boxes that I have a few MIB.

Have you ever purchased fashions for your dolls on Etsy or other places?

No, but I have been looking and I probably will soon.

OPTIONAL: Are you gay straight or Bisexual?

I'm gay as sunshine.  :sunny:

Do you collect Ever After High Dolls?

Yes. I am trying to only get just the basic characters...Legacy Day Cerise is calling me though...

Do your parents or siblings know about your collecting, if so how do they react/feel?

My mom doesn't really care. She likes dolls herself, but doesn't understand the whole collecting thing.
She even comes out with me to doll hunt sometimes.  :)
I NEVER talk to my dad about it. He made me feel horrible about liking dolls as a kid and I just keep my door shut when he is around. My sister acts like she is supportive, but she seems mostly disinterested and thinks that dolls are silly. She can kinda make mean, backhanded comments too. The other day I showed her my Blythe doll and she said she thought my doll was "unique". A few days later we were on the Monster High/Barbie isle at Target and she said "I don't know why all dolls they make today are so creepy and ugly with huge eyes. When I was a kid, I liked PRETTY dolls." I was offended because she knows I am passionate about those dolls and she said it so hurtfully.  My brother doesn't care at all because he is use to it. He does think it is funny to watch me dunk a doll's head in boiling water when I do a boil wash/perm.  :biggrin:

Would you ever give up collecting if a significant other asked you to?

Nah, I could kick him out and make his old room into a new doll room.  :thumb:

Brags / Thrift store dolls!!
« on: August 28, 2014, 12:09:32 AM »
Thrift stores around here never have MH dolls, but I got lucky today!
I had some time between class, so I decided to hit up the thrift stores near my school.
I found some great Barbies at the Goodwill (Including Meg from Hercules, that I have wanted FOREVER) and I was happy. I was heading back to school when I remembered this other thrift store I rarely go to. They usually never have anything, but I had some time and I figured why not. I went in and they had a fully stocked toy department and a full Barbie box with......wave 1 Cleo and classrooms Ghoulia in it!
Both were completely naked and are horrendously filthy. I couldn't refuse them for 99 cents each.
I'll post pictures once technology stops hating me and I figure out how to upload on here.  :blush:

Customs / Re: Head Shrinking! Who has tried it?
« on: August 27, 2014, 07:44:41 PM »
I tried this on a spare Bratz doll I had. I left her soaking in the Acetone over night. I had the opposite result though. Her head actually got bigger for some reason.  ^^;
I'm not sure about this, since I haven't yet tried it myself, but I think I've read that first they do (or might) get bigger, since the head soaks up some of the liquid. however, when you take it out and it dries completely it will be smaller than its original size.
I tried this experiment a while back, so my memory may be a bit rusty. I left the doll's head soaking in Acetone over night. When I went in the bathroom to check on her the next day her head had gotten noticibly larger and EXTREMELY squishy. I didn't want to leave her soaking too long, because I have heard of doll heads spliting during this procedure. I took her head out to dry and see what would happen. It did shrink after it dried, but it looked the exact same size as a normal Bratz doll head. I also noticed it was significantly harder than it was before my experiment was done. I have also heard that was a common thing to happen.
I don't know why my head didn't shrink. Maybe I just missed something or maybe there was just something wrong with my acetone.  :shrug:

Well, my Walmart has totally reset.  They had the Save Frankie line, basic Freaky Fusion and Freaky Fusion inspired ghouls. They also had a tag for Casta Fierce, but no doll yet. They also had New Equestria Girls, and new Lalaloopsy.They even had Elsa fashion dolls from Frozen. I haven't seen those in my local store since last Christmas!
Ugh, going down a freshly stocked doll isle is torture when you are flat broke.  ^^;

Monster Discussion / Re: Which one do you prefer?

I also prefer#1, the overall impression of her face is more appealing to me ^^
My feelings exactly.

When you are riding passenger in a car and you see a girl carrying her MH doll and you know it is Roller Maze Frankie just from a few second glance as you pass by.  ^^;

There are so many that I love, but I just don't have the space for them.  :blink:
Must. Resist. The. POPS. haha
The Disney princesses are SOOOO hard to resist though.
I have picked up and put back POP Ariel and put her back a few times.  ^^;
....Maybe she needs to become part of my world.. :whistle:
