Customs / Galaxia, the Star Jumping Musician
« on: September 08, 2017, 10:36:05 PM »
Be cool, Star Shines, and love one another. Galaxia is a sweet alien girl who only wants to spread the word of peace, love and stars. She and her trusty guitar will charm you with her lovely songs beguiling dances. Of course, she has no idea that she's actually causing her audience to fall into a trance, but her intentions are pure.

Galaxia is a recycled Monster High Rochelle Goyle.

Monster Discussion / Ink Stain Removal Help
« on: May 31, 2017, 10:22:05 AM »
Mods, please feel free to move or delete this post, if I have posted it incorrectly.

I am attempting to make a new custom doll and have hit a snag.  There are ink stains on the face that are not letting up.  I've tried acetone, baking soda paste and the magic eraser method to remove them with little results.  Please help?  I heard of a method using acne cream, but does it really work?

Thank you for your time.

Customs / My first custom - Lagoona Mermaid
« on: March 12, 2017, 07:33:59 PM »
Hello everyone, I've just started to do custom dolls and wanted to share my first complete project.

Though I have a few other dolls laying around half painted, I thought this project wouldn't take as long.  No need for much cutting and sewing, so I would have results faster.   My first decision was to keep Lagoona's hair.  None of the yarn colors I had available really seemed "Lagoona", so I just decided on a simple styling.  Of course, I used similar methods as everyone to actually do her face up, so let's not bore you all on the details.

The fun part is the tail, I had to remove both of her legs from the knees down.  Using tin foil sheets, I managed to shape a basic mermaid tail, before wrapping wire around it, so the tail has more flexibility than the mermaid dolls you find on the market. Her fins include wire for some flexibility and some packing to keep their shape.

The seashells are real, compliments of Myrcury and the rope is packing twine.  The hair piece is a sprig of plastic berry bush with a pearl base, it's kept attached to the scalp with a simple pin.  Oh, her skin is shiny, because I added a gloss varnish on top of the completed faceup, once the top coat dried.  I wanted her skin to appear "moist."

Anyway, it's my first completed doll and I kind of wanted to show her off.  Enjoy the photos.

Updated 6-05-2016
Hello everyone.  So I've recently started dabbling in making unique doll clothes.  Basically scoping out some thrift stores, gathering up any extra sewing material they have and seeing what I could make.  I wanted to share a few of the outfits with you today.  Toralei and Lagoona shall be my models (I hope you don't mind links to my tumblr account, I don't have a photobucket account right now).

Toralei's outfit has a high waist skirt (not really for a character with a tail), black stretch shorts, a comfy red and black top and matching red beaded belt. The shirt has a pearl accent to show a touch of elegance, while the skirt has a small sterling silver skull and crossbones charmed sewn into it.   I jokingly call this her "Punk Pirate" look.

Lagoona is looking less blue and a little more red in her Little Red Riding Hood inspired outfit.  Her red and white dress makes it her as cute as a button, while her apron makes sure she does not get crumbs on her pretty dress.  Lastly, her faux fur hooded cloak keeps her safe from the elements (and any wolves).  (I'm aware there is a MH Red Riding Hood outfit, but I wanted to make my own).

Lagoona is once more fanging out in her peach and white top.  Watch out, because she's also in a black mini skirt with a faux leather belt! The simple black headband completes the piece! Wow!  She looks clawsome and ready for a day out at with the ghouls!

Please excuse her lips, I recently attempted to remove Lagoona's lip paint and.. uh.. yeah.  Lagoona has a new night shirt decorated with some pretty white lace.  A small very pale blue button decorates the chest (the flash kinda hides it).

And this second outfit happens to show her latest rainbow top.  A simple black skirt with a gold chained belt help compliment her outfit.  Oh and her watermelon charm just screams Summer!

So a friend mentioned I should try to recreated one of the Crystal Gem's outfits.  I think I did it justice.  Not an exact copy but definitely a good inspiration.

A pink and white lolita inspired style dress.  Lots of antique lace and lots of style, so Lagoona looks fabulous.

Anyway, that's all for now.  Let me know what you all think.

Introductions! / Hello! Long time lurker, just got approved today
« on: May 08, 2016, 03:44:53 PM »
Hello there!

Ah, I'm a very, VERY recent member of the MH community.  A dear friend of mine, goes by the name Myrcury here, has been slowly seducing me to the dark side.  What can I say, her doll mods are totes gore-geous.

I'm 35 years out, a West Virginia native, and, thanks to Ms. Myrcury, have discovered a new passion for making doll clothes.  I also love to do traditional art, usually with marker and colored pencil.  All of these have helped immensely with my anxieties.

I have only one doll in my collection, which is a Toralei.  I found a loose Lagoona doll, ordered it and hope to have it this week.  Eventually, I hope to get an Isi Dawndancer and Luna Mothews, due to my mother's strong ties to her Native American ancestry and because I'm from West Virginia.

Well, that's my lame introduction.  I'm actually pretty shy, but I reveal more when you take time to get to know me.  I hope to make some good friends on the forum.

Bye for now!
