Customs / accessory painting questions
« on: May 17, 2017, 12:57:30 PM »
I want to try painting some accessories. I have a few questions if anyone can answer. If you have the brand name of the supplies you prefer, that helps also!

Do you prime the plastic with something before painting?
What medium do you use? Acrylic paints? pastels maybe?
What do you use as a final sealant?
Will the paint rub off on my doll and stain my doll?
will the paint scratch or rub off?
What types of brushes or tools do you use?
Do you have any links to share on this subject?
any other tips?

Monster Discussion / Where do you buy your dolls from?
« on: April 17, 2017, 05:27:41 PM »
I'm curious about the different ways and places that we buy our dolls.

Do you buy online or in store? a mixture?

Do you usually buy them full priced or clearanced?

Do you buy new or used dolls?

I'm sure most of us have a little mix of everything, but I'm wondering what you do the most. I mostly buy my dolls online through Amazon. But I also clearance shop in stores and buy used dolls on ebay.

Monster Discussion / Hair rehab!
« on: March 15, 2017, 03:39:33 PM »
I wanted to show off this Holly and some process pics. She came from a lot of child's toys. Her hair was basically one big mat with a lot of breakage.

I used fabric softener to comb out the knots, then rinsed it out. I also applied a tiny amount of coconut oil to smooth the breakage.

1. Super gnarly matted hair.
2. Brushing it out.
3. What came off the comb (Sorry about the old towel, I just use it for doll stuff.)

After pics...not brand new quality but so much improved.

I just love doll spa day. One of my favorite things to do with my dolls!

Off Topic / Toys from your childhood.
« on: March 15, 2017, 01:23:18 PM »
Are there any toys from your childhood that you still have? Let's play show and tell! I'll start.

This series (Yum Yums) were scented, and the amazing thing is that she still faintly has the smell in her ears. That smell takes me back to my childhood! I specifically remember taking her with me when my uncle and his fiance took me to see Beauty and The Beast in the movie theater.

Trader Support / Ebay complaints
« on: March 06, 2017, 05:43:08 PM »
So I got a cool promo from ebay that was for 500 free insertion fees. But my selling limit for the month was still 100.

I had to call a person and speak to them on the phone (and I'm sure you all know how fun that is!) There is no option for customer service through the internet. After much banter they raised my limit by 75 more items and that is all I really needed. I was happy that they compromised with me, but this system is so ridiculous.

If they have a coding algorithm to strategically send this email, the coding should account for the selling limit and adjust the offer accordingly.

I feel like they waved something exciting in my face and said nope read the fine print, it is not what it seems! Why does ebay even have such low limits? Bandwidth? stopping scammers?

I like ebay because it gets more browsers than any other selling site but their customer service for sellers is really lacking. Do you use ebay? Are there any other sites that get a lot of shoppers I could alternatively use? Maybe etsy now that they let you sell non-handmade items?

I apologize this is ranty, if it belongs better in zombie zone or off topic please feel free to move it.

Monster Discussion / The Good Old Days

I started liking Monster High in 2015 but it wasn't until 2016 that I really got into it. I know so many people post about how Monster High used to be better or they liked it more. Please share your feelings with me! What was better? How were things different?  ^.^

Off Topic / Ebay rant
« on: February 19, 2017, 06:12:33 PM »
So I was given some autographed baseballs to sell on ebay by someone I know who does not use ebay (they are very elderly.)

I listed the balls and then get a message from someone telling me the autographs are fake. I changed my listing and added a notice that the autograph may not be authentic but is still a nice collectible. I also drastically lowered the price.

I've heard horror stories from high end purse sellers on ebay about ruthless people who report them or convince them their item is fake for their own benefit (less competition or to buy the item to resell.) I don't know if this other ebayer is honest or just trying to scam me!

They aren't my baseballs and I don't want to invest money in taking them to an appraiser. The person who gave me the balls firmly believes they are real, bought them about 20 years ago from a physical sports memorabilia store in New York City, and paid full price. The balls have certificates of authenticity but apparently those can be faked too.

I just don't know what to do at this point. I'm worried I will hurt my ebay account. I have 100% positive feedback and I don't want to lose my account or selling privileges!

Monster Discussion / Plastic tag fasteners of hate
« on: February 16, 2017, 05:38:34 PM »
I'm so frustrated at the moment.  :eesh: :grr:  I open a new doll, I'm so excited....I carefully free her from her box and then start removing the plastic tags from her head. I usually trim them down as low as I can and then press them into the head. Well this time I accidentally cut some hair. And of course I was removing a plastic tag that held a headband in place so the hair is right front and center of her head.

Why oh why do they use these plastic things so freely, that head had 6 of them! The clear rubberband and would have probably held the headband just fine.

Really I'm mad at myself, I'm always very careful cutting those things but this time I failed.

I guess I will need to get a little gel and slick those hairs back so they blend in. Maybe one day I can get some donor hair and reroot those couple plugs.

And the 2nd doll I got has bad glue head. It's just not my night tonight!

Anyone else have a horrible packaging story to share?

Off Topic / A boy who plays with dolls video
« on: February 12, 2017, 06:25:23 AM »
This video is kinda old so I'm sure some of you have seen it, but I watched it for the first time today. Really well made short film.

My personal experience.
As a kid I had a few friends with little brothers. I remember playing Barbies, MLP, Littlest Petshop etc with their brothers and it being normal. We were all just kids playing together, so no matter what toy we all joined in. I do remember a little bit of "Play with your brother!" coming from some moms.

When we played we acted out stories. We were very creative and had specific personalities for each toy. Barbie was way more than just a pink dress and high heels.

I got Sivi! I made a review of her on  My Tumblr if you want to read it!

Dayna is so underrated! I love her little details like freckles in the shape of stars and constellations on her arms and legs.

Got some new dolls, took some new pics.

I took a lot of pics but my lighting was so bad only a few came out ok. It's so disappointing when that happens. She is currently under going some spa treatments for glue head.

Monster Discussion / 3d printed accessories.

I was just browsing 3D printed stuff with MH tags and some are pretty cool. Does anyone have any cool 3d printed stuff for their dolls or even good links to share?

Monster Discussion / How do you justify your collection?
« on: February 01, 2017, 10:16:31 AM »
Lately I keep having a feeling like I'm doing something bad when I buy more dolls. My collection is not big at all, less than 20 dolls. I really want to add more, maybe get to 50 dolls or so but I feel guilty about it.

They are not something I need or something useful but they bring me a lot of happiness and I love having them. That's enough, right? As long as I can pay my bills I shouldn't feel bad about spending money on frivolous things.

How do you all deal with these types of thoughts?

Customs / Give Peri and Pearl legs?
« on: January 06, 2017, 05:05:02 PM »
I saw Peri and Pearl for a good clearance price but I'm not really into the mermaid tail thing. I would love a two headed doll though.

Would it be possible to give them a body with legs? Perhaps remove the tail and add two legs? or cut the torso at some point and connect a bottom half.

Any ideas or experience?

I really like the stock photos, something about that translucent skin. I haven't seen many out of box consumer photos. Anyone have some? Is she as cute in person?

Customs / Ears and wigs
« on: January 01, 2017, 03:40:38 AM »
I have a Clawdeen I want to put a wig on.

Is there any way to let her ears come through the wig? maybe carefully cut 2 holes? I know I can just cut them off.....but I would prefer to keep them.
