Customs / Favorite Brand of Watercolor Pencils?
« on: August 05, 2017, 08:18:25 PM »
Hey guys, I'm looking for some recommendations on brands of watercolor pencils for faceups, and to hear everyone's thoughts and experiences with them. I currently use Prismacolor, but I'm not really happy with them. I can't get them to a super sharp, fine point, because the lead breaks off when I try to sharpen them to that level.

I was thinking about trying Derwent, because I remember reading something about them ages ago somewhere.... thoughts on this brand?

Off Topic / Collection Tracker Website/App Recommendations
« on: May 31, 2017, 06:59:56 PM »
So I discovered this app/website called Gemr after someone I'm subbed to on youtube made a video about it. I've been using it for about a year now, and am fairly satisfied with it, so I thought I'd recommend it to you guys.

It's or in app form under just Gemr.

You join "Clubs" on there, and join different collecting communitis, and view other peoples collections, and I *think* you can actually buy/sell/trade there, too, because I've had several message me asking if they can buy my items...

I honestly don't use any of that, though, and instead use it for cataloging and keeping track of my Pullip collection. You can add an item to a collection group on there, and upload a photo(s) of the item, along with a name and description for the item. I like it, because I can scroll down a see everything all in one place, and also see  number of the total items that I've collected.... that's helpful when curious people ask exactly how many you have.  ^^;  It also helps prevent buying doubles, when you have a large collection. I wish that there was a way to search for items quickly in your own collection, but it's a free app/website and beggars can't be choosers, I guess.  ^^;

Do you guys have a favorite collection tracking app/website? I have different ones for my video games and blurays/dvds, but they're very item specific, and cost me some money. I'd really like to see more free apps and websites that people use to catalog and keep track of their large collections. Please share them here!

Customs / dxgirly's Pullip faceup thread
« on: February 09, 2017, 12:29:09 AM »
So, I figured that since I've done 2 custom Pullip faceups now, I should start a thread so I can chronicle any sort of progression or improvement I may make. I currently have 6 MIO kits waiting be worked on, but I have to wait for the weather to warm up a bit.

Anyways, here the two that I've already done:

First up is Camilla. I worked on her in October 2016. She was the very first faceup I did on any doll EVER. So yeah, it's very newbish.  ^^; It's done entirely in watercolor pencils, as I didn't have the supplies to use anything else at the time that I made her.

Camilla by Nikki, on Flickr

My second faceup was Savannah, and I did hers in January 2017. I think I made slight improvements over my first attempt, with this one. She was also done entirely in watercolor pencils, because even though I have the supplies now, I wasn't brave enough to try using them yet. Here's how she came out:

So yeah, any feedback, encouragement, or support you guys could give me in this new endeavour would be greatly appreciated. <3 This is my first getting back into something creative in years and years, so I'm very rusty and not at all confident in my skills, at the moment.  ^^;

Off Topic / What are you currently lusting after?
« on: January 28, 2017, 04:57:40 PM »
We the what did you most recently buy thread, so I thought this would be fun too! I know I'm always pining away for something or other that I can't currently buy myself. lol. I can't be the only one!

Right now I *really* want an outfit from an etsy seller based in Italy that randomly followed my toy account on Instagram awhile back. She makes AMAZING outfits for Pullip, that always make me go  :faint: Her stuff is just out of my budget right now, though.  :(  One day, though!!  :woot:

Brags / Best Christmas Present EVER!!
« on: December 22, 2016, 02:01:57 PM »
So, just putting it out there, Jason (galaxy here on the Arena), is one of the most amazing and generous friends ever. We decided to exchange Christmas presents this year, and he went ALL OUT and spoiled me rotten. Like for real, I feel badly I wasn't able to do more for him this year. He sent me a tin full of homemade Christmas cookies, CE Skelita, Project Mc2 Devon, Disney Descendants Signature Freddie, Hasbro Tiana, Hasbro Elsa, Hasbro Belle, and two of the curvy Barbie Fashionistas.

BUT, that's not even the best part! In the package was a doll carefully wrapped in tissue paper, and when I unwrapped her, I was confused for a minute, not because she wasn't well-done, but because I'm dense, and was totally not expecting a custom doll!

Jason made me a customized Barbie mini-me, and oh my gosh, she is amazing!! She has my hair colors (brown, pink, purple, blue, and green), my septum ring, my plugs in her ears, my nerdy glasses, AND almost all of my tattoos. And she's wearing an outfit that I would totally wear. She also comes with a pink bag in the shape of a cat face, and a pink phone with a teddy-bear case. That is SO me. hahaha

He seriously did SUCH an absolutely amazing job, and a day later, I am still completely floored and just blown away!! Thank you so, so much Jason. This is seriously one of the best gifts I have ever received in my life, and your hard work really, really shows. This was just so thoughtful, and I am so grateful and blessed to have you as such a good friend. I love you so much. <3 <3

So here she is, in all her glory. Excuse my no-makeup face at the end, but I just had to include a photo of me and my mini-me together! ^.^

Thanks for looking!! <3 <3

Off Topic / My Grammy is Dying
« on: December 15, 2016, 10:03:10 PM »
My dad got a call today, and my Grammy is dying, and the doctors say she has 1-2 days to live. She had an awful struggle with Alzehiemers for a long time know, and in the past year and half, it has gotten really bad, and just has been getting continually worse and worse. She and my Papa are currently living in Florida (we're all from Massachusetts) and she became so combative that my Papa was forced to put her in facility, because he just couldn't take care of her anymore, and neither could the visiting nurse that they had hired. I don't know or understand exactly what she dying from at this point, but I honestly don't even really want to know. My family has been preparing for this for a long time, but we were all hoping that she would at least be with us through Christmas. She is in a lot pain now, so they have on morphine every hour now to try to make her comfortable. I know it sounds completely awful to say, but I hope she goes quickly and without much pain. It hurts so much to know she is like this now. My parents went down a few months ago to visit and help my papa out, before she had been moved to the home, and she was so far gone, that she didn't remember who my dad was. I think that broke his heart. He was crying tonight and said that is the last memory he will have of her, and I just feel so badly for him, my papa, and my aunts and uncles. I can count on one hand how many times I've seen my dad cry, and it just hurts my heart to see him in such pain. He's not one to express his feelings, so I can't really talk about it with him, and I don't want to make him feel any worse, so I'm really just at loss as to what to do...

Clawdeen's Closet / Sewing machine recommendations?
« on: October 14, 2016, 09:59:56 PM »
Hey everyone. I've kind of been bitten by the creative bug, and have started customizing some dolls. I've quickly discovered, however, how expensive custom Pullip clothing can be on etsy, so I would like to *attempt* to start making some dolly clothes myself. I want to get a sewing machine, because, to be honest, my hand stitching is completely atrocious... so here I am making this thread. Does anyone else use a machine for doll clothes? Can you recommend a specific one to me that would good for this purpose? I want to put one on my Christmas wishlist. I'll have to learn how to use it, of course, but that's what youtube videos are for, right? ;)

Draculaura's Darkroom / dxgirly's (mostly Pullip) photos
« on: July 19, 2016, 07:38:53 AM »
My old thread seems to have gotten locked, so I decided to make a new one.

Today I'm sharing some pictures of my newly-opened Pullip, Wilhelmina. She is so very pretty, and my pics don't really do her justice, but I thought I'd show them to you guys anyways...

I want to start selling off my MIB MLP G4 collection. They're just not doing anything for me, anymore, and are just taking up a lot of space. I will be listing more things as things sell. There's just too much of it right now to even think about putting it all up at once. However I collected every release from 2011-2013, so if you're looking for something from that period MIB, let me know, and I'll to see if I can find it.

For now I'll just be listing these. Shipping is a flat $7 for one item, $9 for two items, $11 for three items, etc. Let me know you want to buy and I'll give you a quote. My shipping costs are NOT done by weight/zip code, because I don't own a scale. Factoring in the cost for boxes/tape/packing peanuts/bubble wrap and rough guess at what it will cost to ship, I always come at a loss. If you don't like how I calculate things, please don't buy from me.

I'm in a non-smoking home, but I do frequently light candles, and have cats.

Prices are semi-negotiable, since I really not 100% certain what any of these are worth.

ALL boxes have shelf-wear. If you're looking for SUPER minty boxes, please look elsewhere.

These are all cross-posted on MLP Arena.

Customs / Help with rebody-ing Courtly
« on: February 21, 2016, 02:42:34 PM »
Hey guys! I plan on buying a Courtly to have nude and then redress, but I really don't want her to have the painted on leggings or gloves with the outfit I'm planning. Lizzie is a match for her skintone, right? (I could answer that myself, but I'm not home at the moment.)

What I really need help with is the actual process of rebody-ing her. I have never done any sort of customization. I usually don't even mess their hair much, if that helps you understand my level of skill with this. lmao. How do I go about doing this? Are there any tutorials you can show me? I am worried I will break her neck, and have to buy a whole new doll again. Help me?

Off Topic / What do you have for Thanksgiving?
« on: November 24, 2015, 08:38:48 PM »
So excuse this being geared towards mainly Americans, but I was talking about this on my personal facebook, and I thought I'd bring a discussion about here... because why not?

So what does your family usually have on Thanksgiving? What's your favorite, and what do you hate?

And for people not in the US- tell me about any traditional holiday food you have in your country!

Off Topic / Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree!! - 2015 Edition
« on: November 09, 2015, 03:37:11 PM »
So, I made a thread just like this last year and I loved it! And since I'm a Christmas-freako and already have my tree and decorations up, I figured I would start one again this year! I have my doubts anyone else has theirs up yet, but please post pics once you do! I love looking at other people's holiday decorations!

Off Topic / Coming to terms with not having kids
« on: October 27, 2015, 09:29:29 PM »
So basically my whole life I had thought that I would have a big family "when I grew up." My mum is one of 5, and my dad is one of 6, so I have A LOT of cousins and two sisters that I grew up very close with. So big loud families is something I am very accustomed to, and something I've always wanted for myself... but somehow it didn't quite work out that way...

Sometime over the last year, my husband and I have definitively decided not to have children. And this is something I am still greatly struggle to come to terms with. I am finding myself with very mixed emotions. Almost like I'm grieving the loss of something I'll never have.... and it's awful.

I've mentioned it here quite a few times in the past, but I suffer from a variety of mental illnesses that have been deemed severe enough that I am now considered "permanently disabled." This was after working over 8 jobs in 11 years, and being fired from all but one (which I quit before they could fire me) and going to and then dropping out of college twice. Things have gotten worse and worse for me over the years, and it was both terrible and a sigh of relief when it all ended.

Anyways, because of mental illness, I have a very hard time doing basic things, like taking a shower, doing the dishes, or going to the store by myself. A lot of the time, I just don't do those things.... my husband is definitely my savior in life. He helps me and takes care of me like no one else can or will, when I can't even take care of myself.

This, coupled with a genetic disorder that my husband carries and may pass on to our children, called trisomy 8p syndrome (or something to that effect, blame my lack of clarity on my in-law's.... but that's another story.) It can cause severe mental and physical retardation. My husband's younger sister was born severely effected. She had many physical problems because of it, in addition to being mentally handicapped and non-verbal. She died at 17, shortly after my husband and I first started dating in 2006, from complications after falling down a flight of stairs in her wheelchair a year or so prior.

Anyways, there is a strong possibility that any child we have may also suffer from this. My husbands mother also had many, many miscarriages before he was born. It is completely possible to have a normal child, but his mother suffered many losses before he came along. Most children that have this, do not make it to birth, and it's quite a miracle that his sister lived as long as she did.

Because of my mental disability, and not being able to fully care for myself, let alone a child, and maybe a severely handicapped child, at that, I have decided not to have children. My husband has always been 100% supportive on whatever I chose to do as far children go, but he has also since expressed that he is very relieved that we won't have children, because he thinks he wouldn't be a good father.

I wish I could feel that relief like he does... but all I have are feelings of grief, and then anger, resentment, and jealousy when I see my friends getting pregnant and having kids. I hate that I feel that way. I shouldn't see pictures of smiling babies taking their first steps on my facebook, and feel hate like I do. I know that makes me an awful, and selfish person. I will admit, that I have retreated and backed away from almost all of my friendships with people I know, once they've had their first child. Even when they show that first positive pregnancy or ultrasound. I just feel awful looking at them. I am not open about this to anyone but my husband, and only him to a very certain degree.  I would NEVER say this to any of my friends faces, and even now, if any of you feel this can apply to you, I am so, SO sorry for feeling this way, and acting like this towards you.

I don't know how to stop feeling this way, and I don't know if I'm ever going to just get over it. I really, truly want to, but I don't think I will. I want to be happy just having my cats and my sponsored children. But I'm not, and I don't see that changing...

Has anyone at all ever dealt with this? I feel like I'm completely alone in this. Most people have kids, or truly would rather not have kids, and then any others I know are having issues conceiving... they're not really in the same boat as me. I just want to feel like someone understands this part of me. I need someone to tell me I'm not a monster for feeling this way. I don't even feel comfortable talking to my therapist about this.... I really don't even know why I'm posting this here. I just had to vent. Had to tell someone. If you read this far, thank you.

This is probably riddled with poor grammar and typos, but I'm too emotional and tired to care right now.

Last time I was over on MLP Arena (granted that was a quite a while ago), I noticed they had a RAOK system in place over there. Has there been any thought of bringing one here??

There are quite a few members here I'd like to send a small surprise to try and brighten their day.
