Monster Discussion / The ones who didn't make it!
« on: March 08, 2018, 12:37:30 PM »
I've started customizing again after taking a sanity break, and with the line ending, I've decided to dedicate some of my customizing energy to making dolls of the characters who didn't make it into the toy line.

You know...the ones who didn't make it, for one reason or another.

What I'd like to know is, what character did you always want to have as a doll, who didn't make it into the line?  Was it a backgrounder, or a teacher?  Maybe it was one of the villains from the movies, or one of the characters who lost the voting poll to be made into a doll a few years ago.  Lots of great, creative customizers have given those characters life, but who do you wish you could have bought off of the shelves?

For me, I had always hoped that both Gory Fangtell and Quill Talyntino from the voting poll had made it into the line along with Finnegan Wake.  They're both on my list to make customs of.  I'll be starting Gory's outfit this weekend.  Who are the empty spots in your collection?!

Monster Discussion / Resurrecting the Corpse of Monster High
« on: February 26, 2018, 09:06:01 AM »
After Toy Fair 2018, it seems that Monster High fans have gotten the news we've been dreading for a couple years.  Monster High has died, and will slowly shuffle off to its grave this year as the last remnants of announced lines trickle their way out to retail.  The last new characters to be released for the line appear to be Packlyn (a recolored Weredith) and Alivia Stein.

All good toy lines must come to an end, and it seems like, for now, that this is Monster High's demise.  However, as we've seen time and time again, no good monster truly STAYS dead - they always come back for the Sequel!  So, this thread is to discuss ideas of how Monster High could rise from the grave, and what are the ways that could happen!

Here are some ideas that I've had - bear in mind that I'm just throwing ideas out there, and I'm not judging how possible/impossible they are.  This thread is just to throw out ideas for the Revenge of Monster High!

-What if Mattel sub-licensed Monster High to a smaller toy company?

Hasbro sub-licensed Jem to Integrity Toys, who also have made My Little Pony high end fashion dolls.  Mattel sub-licensed He-Man to Super8 after the MOTU subscription ended, and they've continued the line on in different forms.  Smaller toy companies don't need as large a profit margin to be a success.  Could someone else decide to make new Monster High dolls, possibly focused to the collector market?

-What if Mattel decided to crowdfund Monster High?

Hasbro is doing something pretty bold with Star Wars this year - they're going to crowdfund a giant Jabba the Hutt playset, similar to how Kickstarter works.  People will pledge their money towards the set being made, and if the goal is reached, the set goes into production and everyone who pledged gets it.  If it doesn't reach the goal, it won't get made, and everyone gets their money back.

Now, I'm not saying Monster High has as big of a fanbase as Star Wars, but the idea of crowdfunding collectibles is a really interesting one and could show exactly how many fans Monster High still has...would it be enough to crowdfund a doll?

These are just a couple of my ideas, what ideas does everyone else have?

Customs / Hair color match for Fangelica?
« on: October 26, 2017, 01:42:28 PM »
I'd like to reroot my Fangelica to have bangs like her animated self.  Does anyone know what a good color match hair is?  I worry about just trying to match it using the colors on my computer monitor.

Buy/Sell/Trades / I need Invisi Billy's head!
« on: July 30, 2017, 09:07:14 AM »
Lol, that sounds kind of creepy doesn't it?  I am looking for Invisi Billy dolls, any condition, hopefully cheap.  I need two heads for upcoming customs.

I'm willing to pay up to $10 for nude bait Billies, and I also have tons of trade bait if you're looking for any non-signature MH gen 1 dolls.

I'll pay a premium for a Maul 5-pack Billy, as I'd like to have that body as well.

PM me if you have Billies and want to deal or trade!

Monster Discussion / Meowlody's hair discoloration?!
« on: April 21, 2017, 08:21:50 PM »
Today I was sorting through my dolls to decide which ones to cull and came to a surprising discovery - all of my Meowlody dolls have gone from having white hair to a light brown/blonde!  Although the change is most pronounced on the signature doll, the Fearleading and Zombie Shake dolls have discolored hair too.  The white streak on Purrsephone is discolored too.   I've had these dolls in storage in plastic boxes for a while.  Although I think signature 2010 Frankie's hair has discolored a little bit too, it's not as dramatic as Meowlodys.  I'll snap a couple pics and add them to show.  My question is - has this happened to anyone else?!  I tried a little alcohol and a little acetone on the hair to see if it was from hairspray or glue, but it seems that the actual fibers are discolored.

I'm wondering if leaving her in the sun for a while may help the hair turn white again, or if reroot/replacement is my only option...

Customs / Glow in the dark hair - tips? experiences?
« on: April 28, 2016, 09:40:48 AM »
I recently started rerooting a head with glow in the dark hair from  It's much more difficult to root than any other kind of hair I have experience with.  Has anyone else used this hair on a project?  Any tips or tricks?  Does it curl well when boiling?

I will say, it glows like a CHAMP.  I woke up at 3 am last night and that wad of hair was STILL glowing some 5 hours after the lights went out.

Monster Discussion / Would you buy a plus-sized Monster High ghoul?
« on: January 28, 2016, 06:58:03 AM »
This question is burning in my mind because of Mattel's announcement today that Barbie will now come in 3 different additional body types.

I would honestly love it if they did the same thing for Monster High!  Imagine if Moanica was a 'chubby' or 'curvy' zombie ghoul!  I've wanted to see something like this since the line began.  What do you think?

Buy/Sell/Trades / Wanted: Spectra\'s bracelet and an iCoffin
« on: December 20, 2015, 04:13:43 PM »
I'm looking for Basic Spectra's bracelet/shackle and one of the new-type iCoffins for a custom doll.  If you have these two parts, please let me know!  I have lots of accessories and clothing items in trade for these.

Please note:  There are a couple of these items that are no longer available, including Sweet Fang and Toralei's scarf.

This article by Bloomberg Business does an excellent job crystallizing the reasons why the Disney/Mattel relationship ended, what Ever After High had to do with it, and just how much of an impact MH and EAH make on Mattel's financials.

Long story short:  EAH is a very small franchise compared to MH and especially compared to the money Mattel was making selling Disney Princesses.  It will be interesting to see going forward how Mattel recovers from the Disney license loss.

Buy/Sell/Trades / Looking for Poppy O'Haire boots
« on: August 17, 2015, 01:16:23 PM »
I'm looking for a pair of Poppy O'Haire's signature boots for a custom.  I'll pay up to $4 for them, otherwise I do have a lot of old MH stock parts for a possible trade.

For reference, it's these boots:

Off Topic / Monster Elementary - a cute comic kickstarter!
« on: July 31, 2015, 08:01:38 AM »
This isn't strictly related to Monster High, but those of us who are interested in MH may be interested in this comic book:

Monster Elementary

This Kickstarter is for the second volume; the first was successfully funded and printed earlier this year.  I backed the first volume and the story is extremely cute!  It has a slightly (VERY slight) darker edge than Monster High - the main character is a bratty vampire boy named Desmondus who very much so would like to drink the blood of the other, normal kids at his elementary school.

If you like Monster High and appreciate humor like Teen Titans Go!, Monster Elementary is a really fun read, and a worthwhile project to back on Kickstarter.  Hopefully, they can get Volume 2 backed in time and go through with printing it.

Curious for more?  You can read 28 pages of the first volume of the comic at their website, here:

Today I went to several Targets to check out their clearance sections.  To my utter shock, at the last one I visited (coincidentally, the Target I bought my very first ever MH doll at), there was one original 2010 Draculaura sitting on one of the clearance endcaps!

Even more amazingly, she had a sticker marking her at $5.36!!!!!!

I checked the entire rest of the toy section, but no other such treasures were to be found.  Still, what a shocker to find sitting on the shelves in a mint condition box!  I wonder where she's been for the last 5 years....

Monster Discussion / The Draculocker - is it rare/desirable?
« on: July 12, 2015, 11:57:18 AM »
While doing research on items I'm going to be listing on eBay, I discovered that the Draculocker is being listed for between $50-80!!!  Is it really getting those prices?  I picked one up some time back and literally forgot I had it.  What happened when I wasn't looking?

I'm trying to make some more space in my collection, so I'll be putting several MIB items up on eBay for the next few weeks.

Please check out my auctions here:

I've recently become very interested in the way people are fixing/upgrading their EAH dolls after the budget cutbacks by Mattel.  Some people have gone way above and beyond the call of duty to make their dolls almost 100% screen-accurate.  I've tried looking up the images of different dolls for inspiration, but they're spread across dozens of topics.  I was hoping I could get some of them focused in one thread for inspiration for my own upgrades!

I'm especially interested in the upgrading and fixing on the Wonderland dolls, but I'd also love to see what you've done for characters that got hit hard with cutbacks like Ginger Breadhouse and Darling Charming!

Clawdeen's Closet / Good source for tights/stockings for dolls?
« on: May 28, 2015, 01:36:02 PM »
I'm hoping someone on the boards can give feedback or point me in the right direction on this.  I'd like to find a source for nice leggings/tights/stockings for dolls.  I'd like to have some nude tights for my upcoming Darling Charming doll because it seems strange she has nothing on her legs, and I'm also helping a friend with a doll where some colorful tights would look great.

I've seen pairs of stockings on Etsy, does anyone have experience with them?  Do they cling well to the legs of the dolls, or are they constantly slipping down?  That concern is why I've been more inclined to look for full tights or leggings rather than just two-piece stockings.

[Mod note - moving this over to Clawdeen's Closet~ Lilith]

Off Topic / SDCC Exclusives you want that aren't MH or EAH
« on: May 25, 2015, 01:36:16 PM »
I'm curious what other San Diego Comic Con exclusive people are looking forward to/dreading/having to mortgage their house for.

This is a great blog to keep track of San Diego exclusive announcements:

Personally, I'm going to be saving up money for:

This gorgeous JLU Supergirl statue

And this squishy Krypto the Superdog plush!

Customs / Sugru or Instamorph?
« on: May 22, 2015, 01:43:19 PM »
Has anyone on the boards had experience using Sugru (a silicone-based molding putty) or Instamorph (a PVC-based heat-molding material) in customs?  I am interested in finding a plastic-like material that can be sculpted and possibly pressed into molds, but that will also stay flexible in the long run.

I've posted these on Deviantart and a different MH board, so if they look familiar, that's why.

Anyhow!  These are my customs.  I hope you like them!  Most of them were done as gifts for friends and are based on their character ideas, so I don't claim full ownership over the designs.  I did draw all of the art shown, though.

If it's all right, because this is so image-heavy I'm going to break it into multiple posts.  The first post will be dolls I've made for my own personal collection, and the second will be dolls that are gifts to friends.  Then from then on I'll do progress pictures on dolls I'm currently working on.

Post Merge: May 08, 2015, 02:19:48 PM

These are the dolls I made for myself:

Draconia St. George, daughter of the Avalon dragons was my first custom.  She was completed in 2012, before Jinafire Long was released.  I found it funny that both the Monster High designers and myself thought up a dragon ghoul with a gold, green and purple colour scheme.   ;)

Scarilyn and Abnorma-Gene Moanroe are the daughters of the Radioactive Mutant.  The doll glows in the dark.

Kai Merha is the (immensely difficult to photograph) son of a Mad Scientist.  He is the result of a lab accident transforming a teenager into a monsterous mash-up of a chimera.

Atomica Servo is the daughter of the Automatons.  Specifically, the daughter of Future from the silent film Metropolis.  She was made in 2013, before Elle Eedee was a glimmer in any creator's eyes, and again I'm sort of surprised at the elements that are similar between the two!

Rorrim "Rory" Bludworth is the son of Bloody Mary.  He is also immensely difficult to photograph, on account of being so shiny.

From Ever After High, Polly Bunyan is the daughter of Paul Bunyan.

Introductions! / Hello!
« on: May 07, 2015, 10:53:50 AM »
Hello, everyone!

I found these boards a little over a week ago, and I've been lurking on them since.  I figured it was about time to register formally!  I've been collecting Monster High dolls since early 2011, and up until the start of this year, I was a completionist.  I've had to curtail my spending a bit this year, though I still pick up the signature dolls and anything that catches my eye.

I'm an adult, living in the upper Midwest of the USA.  I'm a businessowner and I've been a toy collector my whole life.  I also do quite a bit of customizing, so I'm happy to see such a supportive, helpful board for custom questions!

I'm really looking forward to interacting in what looks like a very positive and welcoming environment.  I'm happy to see that a place like that exists for Monster High fans!
