Customs / Liquid Casting besides Resin?
« on: September 06, 2018, 11:31:13 AM »
I've been looking into doll molding, but if I wanted to cast something into a doll head/face mold... and preferred it be hollow for weight purposes... what am I able to cast it in?

I know resin is the first thing that comes to mind for liquid casting, but I don't know if there's anything else that exists?
The only reason I'm apprehensive about resin is because I really don't get the process, plus expense, or maybe this is more plausible than I think.

Polymer clay is too heavy, and I worry it would collapse if I hollowed it. And I can't think of anything to use as a filler to hollow it that wouldn't like explode or melt too bad in the oven.

Is there anything else liquid based I can try? I don't know that much about the different things you can cast in.

And I don't think you can do classic toy vinyl at home I think you need a factory setting for that... 🤔

Monster Discussion / School Spirit Frankie Lunch Set
« on: July 20, 2017, 04:34:37 PM »

Currently unlisted, I'm the tumblr OP but Arielle Quentz from the Catacombs on facebook found it first while browsing

Curiously the listing doesn't mention Frankie

"The cafeteria table has a bench attached where Toralei doll can sit to have a feast - there are so many lunchtime accessories, like two lunch bags, two lunch trays with food slots, food in bowls and on plates, a sandwich (with two halves to share), drinks and desserts. Toralei doll looks purr-fect in a print sweater dress with boots and a hairpiece, and a pink purse completes the lunchtime look."

Customs / Caprice Whimcanter Frightmare head swap Custom!
« on: July 09, 2017, 08:32:41 PM »

Body: azone picco neemo

Paint: light blue acrylic with top coat of nail polish in “moonstone”

Head: Frightmare: Caprice Whimcanter

Clothes: SweetieBelle Eq Girl dress

My first custom I'm so proud!!

I ordered a picco neemo body awhile ago for a hybrid that didn't work out. I've had the body flopping around ever since.
Until I thought, wait what if the Frightmares would work?

A trip to Five Below later, also where I got the nail polish.

Here's my blog where I'm posting about her too.

Customs / Forest Pixies headswap Equestria girls
« on: February 03, 2017, 02:46:26 PM »
Awhile back I remember people wondering how well EAH pixies worked on Equestria girls.

Their pretty much a perfect body match in size. Though my subject Veronicub was a little too pink for Rarity.

Still light enough to work.

Won't be keeping her like this but letting anyone know who was curious.
Especially with Rarity bodies, since it's possible she could be dyed. Pinkie was too dark though.

Monster Discussion / In an Emergency which dolls do YOU grab
« on: October 06, 2016, 05:27:54 PM »
With Hurricane Matthew blowing away Florida I've noticed a few collector's who've had to pack up some of their lovelies and evacuate.

Which made me wonder, which dolls would I choose in an emergency. I'm not even sure I could decide, I think it'd be a combo of value and sentimental.

What about you? Can you imagine yourself shoving 10 dolls in a suitcase and kissing the rest the best? While you hold onto your Disney limited edition display case in the front seat?

Or those of you who have lived this situation, who did you choose?

Brags / Another Ai Doll
« on: August 21, 2016, 06:06:00 PM »
I was dumb and ordered her off ebay when Amazon was cheaper.

Sometimes I think this is what sates my hunger for BJD bc I doubt I can ever justify one of those unless it's like super cheap and used(already put together >>)

I've been looking at her for... quite some time tho.
And can you imagine I was at work and I got a text that there was a package at home.

So guess what I looked forward to all day.

Here she is with her sister? friend? Other Ai

She comes with this cute little raincoat that was almost impossible to squeeze her arms through, and a leaf umbrella

Brags / Licca Chan Finally Arrived
« on: April 12, 2016, 03:05:03 PM »

When I ordered her I had a choice.
Normal shipping and she'll arrive in 1-2 months.
Or expedited shipping for $100 for her to arrive within the week.

Do you ever wait on foreign mail so long you think it'll never come?
Apparently this has been on the dining room table and NO ONE TOLD ME.

God she's so cute I almost don't want to unbox her.

Off Topic / Foreign Dolls
« on: March 09, 2016, 10:56:42 AM »
So today I was looking into the history of fashion dolls, which was interesting, I didn't know Barbie was more or less the first one, and had no idea about her early competitors.
But then a couple of blurbs came up about similar fashion dolls in other countries. I've always known about Licca and her popularity in Asia. But I had never heard of Fulla.

The popular fashion doll of Arab countries.

Which led me to wonder, what other foreign dolls are out there reflecting and absorbing the immediate culture of their respective countries?
I'm insanely curious now, but the internet has limited information. So I was wondering what the other doll people might know.

And when I say foreign I just mean not-American.

Ever After High Discussion / What would you want from EAH fashion packs?
« on: February 01, 2016, 10:53:09 AM »
Supposing they ever make them. What would you want from an EAH fashion pack?
Though doubtful they ever will...

On that note have you ever wanted a 'create a princess' pack?

I know I'm not the only one who gets a little tree and presents for her doll children.

Anyone else doing this? Redressing for sweater weather, or maybe even some Hannukah monsters(or princesses or BJDs)?

Off Topic / Tis the Season to be Anxious

Fa la lalala. Should I hide my dolls?

This year instead of taking down half the shelf I've resolved to just not have anyone in my room.
No one really came into my room until I invited them anwyay...

So fellow collectors. Anyone else ready to get into hiding with family coming over? Or are you completely shameless?

Do you just forbid the showroom/shelfspace? Does everyone know in your family? Are you getting dolls from your grandma?

I figured this might be a common problem, what with some people having to give up the guest room(coughdollroom) to relatives, or having people over for things. While they wonder what exactly you're doing with half bald doll heads on sticks(for you customizers)?

So what's up with everyone this season of judgemental relatives not miding their business? c:

Draculaura's Darkroom / Show me redresses that helped you like a character
« on: December 03, 2015, 10:30:05 PM »
So long story.
My first ever Monster High doll was Dance Class Lagoona. I didn't really care about MH. My friend gave her to me trying to get me interested in Monster High. Didn't really work, but I ended up watching it anyway, fell in love blah blah.

Never came to have a strong like for Lagoona. Heck this was the only Lagoona I owned, and I didn't feel the need for doubles but she was always kind of my least favorite doll. Maybe it was because I didn't buy her myself? Maybe it was her bug eyes? Maybe it was because she was basically in a swimsuit and it wasn't really the best fashion? Maybe it was because I wasn't super into her character.

I thought it must be her hair. Normal Lagoona has lovely waves, mine had straight locks with something of a bald spot that I assume was there naturally because she didn't endure much brushing from me.

Anyway we tried giving her curls(a lot of methods, nothing would stick). Whatever, I just kind of reserved her to my, I-don't-really-like-you-but-can't-really-get-rid-of-you-pile.

So finally today I saw a little hat at Hobby Lobby. And the perfect outfit image came to mind.

I had a fashion pack I had gotten that helped with my like of her, but it was still kinda eh.
Also when I redress my dolls in the winter I feel bad if I dressed them too "cold" so remembered I got a cute cardi off my MC2 doll Adrienne.
And the hat just pulled it together she looks like she's going to the beach. She's wearing her remaining scrap of dance class skirt as a petti (toralei stole the rest of her suit)

Anyway, anyone have a similar story? Or just cute redresses that kinda bumped a character's potential up?

Brags / Puff buys dolls(specifically Ginger's playset)
« on: November 14, 2015, 10:09:23 PM »
So my girlfriend who works at target drops me a $10 off a purchase of $10 or more at target coupon for online purchases.

So I'm like, I'm gonna do it.

And now I have Ginger.

This isn't a review just mostly pictures of all her tiny things.

Like her tiny ass earrings that match her hat.

She also has this killer sugar wafer bench

Her shoes are little houses with frosting

Gingerbread everything.

Her dress isn't super interesting BUT LOOK AT HER RING IT'S A TINY HOUSE

I didn't know how to get her out so I just... cut into the plastic.

How do I playset?

Junk or a new display I will decide soon.

In the meantime she is drying doll bondage style

Monster Discussion / Does anyone else?

Does anyone else look at their collection and just sigh happily?

My shelf can be such a welcome site esp after I get home from work or school.
