Monster Discussion / Werecat hair stripes: restorable?
« on: July 24, 2020, 02:17:41 PM »
I've wondered this for a while, but it's really on my mind at the moment since I have a few werecat dolls with glue issues and general hair nastiness, and the method I use to treat that involves, among other things, water and dish soap. (I've never been satisfied with the results from corn starch/baby powder, so I'd prefer not to go with a dry method.)

Currently I've got a Meowlody next in line for the goo gone. Her striped section of hair is miraculously untouched by the glue thus far, and I've got it sticking out and separated by means of a very small sandwich clip so that I can try and keep it out of the way while I work on the rest--but accidents can happen!

So I'm wondering what, if anything, can be used to paint the stripes back on should it come to that. Something that can make crisp lines that won't bleed. (What do they actually use to put the stripes on in the first place, anyway?)

Was wondering if such a thing existed. Right now I'm staring down a massive jumble of plastic and hoping to figure out what all goes with whom. XD

Brags / Bragaroni and cheese! (10/13/17 Birthday Ball trio!)
« on: March 31, 2017, 01:46:24 PM »
It's... okay yeah it's still pretty unlikely. But today was different!

Rarely do they ever even have one, and here were two. And heck yes did I get them both.

(I think I'm most excited to get those DotD tights and shoes. )

Or: Poster Doesn't Know Diddly-poop about Retail and Wonders What the Heckaroo Just Happened  :P

Anyway, just got back from Walmart, specifically from the Miami, OK location. I'd gone to pick up the Ghouls' Getaway trio, and upon arriving at them I saw something pleasing:

Awww yeahhh. Not too much of a discount, but a discount all the same. I like those.

Knowing from experience that clearanced things don't always ring up at clearance price, I took one of each of the dolls to the nearest scanner. It showed regular ol' retail price for all three--again, wouldn't be the first time something supposedly clearanced rang up that way. So I snapped the photo above, then brought said photo plus the dolls to the register.

By this point I thoroughly expected them to ring up at retail price there, too. And yep, that's exactly what happened. I showed the photo to the cashier, who brought in a higher-up to confer with on the matter. Said higher-up seemed to zero in on the fact that the clearance sticker says "MONSTER HIGH STORYTE" while the boxes say "Ghouls' Getaway", which brings me to my first question: am I mistaken, or is "MONSTER HIGH STORYTE(LLER)" just a catch-all name for dolls in that price range?

Anyway, they had someone go back to the toy section to confirm the sticker was actually there. Fair enough; the photo could've been taken anywhere, after all. Person got back there and reported that yes, there was the sticker, with a bunch of GG Jinafires lined up behind it--there were no other Spectras or Meowlodies left; I'd picked up the last of each. Aforementioned higher-up wondered if the discount applied to all three GG dolls or just to Jina, and asked person in toy section to scan the barcode on the clearance sticker.

Apparently the barcode confirmed the GGs being clearanced--or confirmed Jina being clearanced, anyway. In the end, they were only able to apply the clearance price to her, but here's question #2: would the code on the clearance sticker have only matched Jina, or is it a barcode shared by the entire assortment somehow? If there'd been other Spectras and/or Meowlodies back in the toy section for the person back there to have checked against, might they have been able to apply the discount to all three characters?

In the end, I went ahead and bought all three. It was only a difference of $8, so I don't really mind if I could've paid less. I'm just curious, really: without shopping somewhere else, could I have paid less?

Monster Discussion / Return Mishaps II: The Returnening

Old thread got locked, so here we go again. I'll start things off with this Rosabella I spotted at the 7th St. Walmart in Joplin, MO:

If anyone can identify her outfit, that'd be awesome.

Lying loose in the bottom of the box was this purse, the origin of which also eludes me for some reason:

This is Meulin.

And lately she has developed an obsession with batting my sig Catrine off the shelf.

Nobody else. Just Catrine.

I keep having to tell her that just because something looks like a cat, it doesn't mean it's for her.  :P

How do your critters get along with your dolls?

Monster Discussion / Which MH dolls come with rings?
« on: December 29, 2015, 06:19:25 PM »
I tend to buy older releases out of package, and I like to make sure they've got all their bits and pieces. And rings--especially the tiny single-finger sort like sig Nefera's got, are easy to lose and easy to overlook.

So her aside, who's got em?

Monster Discussion / So I'm finding that Peri and Pearl...
« on: December 07, 2015, 06:48:46 PM »
...aren't so great at standing up. XD Every so often, I'll hear a faint "bonk" and turn to find they've tipped over backwards. Again.

Anyone else have this kind of trouble with them, or with any other doll in particular? Any tips for improving their stability?

Hi. Figured it was about time I made a proper catch-all thread for my brags here, and what better note to start on than this? After nearly 20 years, the wait is over. I finally have the one figure Iíve wished for above all others.

Meet Necrosan. :D

Brags / So pretty I could scream!
« on: June 03, 2015, 01:13:28 PM »
Guess who arrived in the mail today.  ^.^

Not the most glamourous place for a shoot, I know. I just wanted to get her in the sunlight, even though the photos don't really do justice to all the shininess. This is definitely one of those dolls that has to be seen in person to realize just how gosh darned pretty she is.

She didn't come with her purse, but since I was able to get that separately, and since she came with everything else including that tiny little ring (seriously Mattel, you had to know how easily lost that thing would be  :P), I consider it a fair tradeoff and then some.

I'm thrilled to finally have my hands on this gorgeous doll, and I hope everyone who's got an eye on her gets her in theirs someday, too.

Was in the middle of deboxing my Creepateria Cleo when I noticed something...

Blurry as all get-out, but believe me, that's a t.

I love typoes on official merchandise, so if you've got any, let's see em!

Brags / First SDCC Exclusives GET!
« on: April 08, 2015, 02:51:57 PM »
Not like, the first ever.  :P But they are my first:

I am SO ELATED to have these two, oh my gosh. Iris is simply adorable and has THE nicest hair of any doll I've ever owned, ever. Will definitely be getting her ILF doll too, once it comes out.  ^.^

And Manny is simply astonishing--I could never have appreciated just how huge this guy is before I got him in my hands. I really, really hope he gets a wide release someday; he is just cool as all get-out and everyone deserves a chance to experience him in-person.

(At the very least, he could do with more clothing options. Hence why I just had to splurge on the jacket, heh.)

The packaging I've kept, in a rare exception to my policy. Luckily it all bundles right back up really gorgeously--it helped, certainly, that it wasn't riddled with tape and was consequently very easy to open up without damaging any of it to speak of. I could easily put these two right back in if I ever decided I wanted to display them in-box.

Though that's admittedly unlikely. I've been eager to get my hands on these two, and now that I literally have, I'm having a tough time putting them down!  ^.^

Monster Discussion / Repackaged Creepateria and Zombie Shake?
« on: March 21, 2015, 03:17:06 PM »
The local Walmart recently got more of the Creepateria dolls in--same three characters as before, but in the newer, more plastic-heavy style of packaging you see with more recent releases. Now they've got the Zombie Shake 2-packs in, similarly repackaged.

What I'm wondering is, are there any significant differences between the dolls in the newer packaging and the original releases?

Monster Discussion / Wolf pack Clawdeen question
« on: February 10, 2015, 01:22:17 PM »
Somehow I never noticed prior to actually getting my hands on this doll that she has clawless hands! Was wondering if the Clawdeen in this pack is always sans claws or if she's appeared anywhere with her usual hands.

Also I'd be interested in knowing which Clawdeens can or do have clawless hands by default.

Monster Discussion / Hoo dis? (ID help wanted)
« on: January 29, 2015, 01:01:57 PM »
So today's trip to the thrift store yielded this...

...dressed largely in GR duds, but that's obviously not GR Draculaura.

So which one is she? Not the best closeup, I know, but ftr: glittery eyeshadow, dark mauvish lips, closed mouth.  And what's that thing the previous owner clipped to her chest?

Monster Discussion / Twyla's eye glow: Restorable?
« on: December 26, 2014, 11:21:44 AM »
One of the things I was most excited about when I got my first Twyla (sig Twyla, to be precise) was her reported glow-in-the-dark eyes feature. Night came along, and after a nice dose of light exposure, I cut the lights... and to this day, months later, I still can't readily tell if her eyes are actually glowing or not. Sometimes I'll swear they're giving off the barest minimum of a glow; other times I'm pretty sure they're just as lightless as the rest of her.

So I'm wondering if there's some suitable glow-in-the-dark product that could crank up the glow effect without 1.) obscuring or otherwise harming the underlying paint/details or 2.) clouding up over time. Also wondering if maybe this is as much glowing as they're meant to do after all.

Ultimately, how her eyes look when I can actually see the rest of the doll is more important to me than how they look in the dark. I just thought it might be nice to give one of her special features a little boost, especially if it could honestly use one.
