Brags / Finally got my dolls displayed!
« on: April 08, 2016, 04:06:56 PM »
We've been in this house since December but we didn't have a stepladder until recently so I just now finally got my doll collection displayed! As soon as I saw the space above the closet in this room I knew it would be perfect to display my dolls, and now it's a reality. It makes me really happy; makes it feel that much more like home.

Customs / Anyone interested in a private custom doll swap?
« on: January 09, 2016, 06:46:25 PM »
The title says most of it: I've been wanting to do a private custom doll swap of some sort for quite a while, and I'm feeling like at the moment I've got the time to handle it, so I'm just curious if there'd be anyone else interested?

I do reroots and repaints (mostly with acrylic paint, but also incorporating some watercolor pencil and chalk pastels) as well as custom clothing (usually fairly simple unless there's a DGRequiem pattern for it!) I'd probably rank my skills at about 5-6 on a scale of 1-10, and I'd probably want to swap with someone around the same skill level as me.

My birthday's in March, so it'd be really cool if things worked out to send out finished dolls sometime in March, but I'm flexible. :) You can see some of my past work under the spoiler:

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

If there's anyone who would be interested, please let me know! I'd love to see some examples of your past work too (even if that's just to link to your thread here in customs!)

Draculaura's Darkroom / Fairy Tale High Rapunzel (S-K Victory)
« on: October 14, 2015, 06:10:49 PM »
Despite not really finding this line of dolls appealing at all, my love of all things Rapunzel inspired me to bring this girl home as a sort of rescue project when I spotted her at Tuesday Morning.

I was really surprised to see she came with a second outfit; I hadn't seen that mentioned anywhere online before. Anybody know anything about that? I really think I like her second outfit better.

This poor girl had a lot of issues. You can read my full write-up on my blog if you like: Her leg staining in particular is pretty bad. I'm hoping to customize her a bit and see if I can't help some of her issues so hopefully she'll fit in with the rest of my collection better.

Buy/Sell/Trades / Greys' Halloween Swap Wishlist
« on: September 12, 2015, 06:10:10 AM »
Candy- Reese's, Smarties, Candy Corn and creme pumpkins are all great! For Reese's, I especially like the holiday shapes that have more peanut butter in them or the itty bitty mini cups. I also love Japanese candy/treats (green tea kit kats, pocky, Hi-chew, etc). If you're international, I also love trying new things from other countries!

MH/EAH Related- I'm always looking for boot-type shoes and crowns. Extra doll clothes are also welcome. My general doll wish list is here:,6264.msg143895.html#msg143895

General- I absolutely love fairy tales, especially Rapunzel, and can't get enough of Rapunzel-themed items. Additionally, I am absolutely in love with everything How to Train Your Dragon or Gravity Falls. I love cutesy hair bows and accessories- I work at a fabric store where we get really festive for holidays and things so Halloween/character themed hair accessories would be great to wear! In general, I just love cute things. I collect stuffed animals, as well as other dolls like Pullip and various collectible figures, mainly POP! Vinyl. I sew doll clothes, so small bits of fabric are always welcome!

I'm really not super picky and just love the experience of swapping so I'll really be happy with just about anything you decide to do!

Questions from the Halloween Thread

Do you prefer kawaii/cute Halloween style trinkets, or more gore/non-fiction sort of trinkets?
Definitely cute. I'm a sucker for all things fun and cute and really don't like gore/super scary things.

Are you allergic to anything?
The smell of oranges gives me migraines. I'm also allergic to garlic but can't imagine that one coming up. (Since it's Halloween, insert obligatory vampire joke here...)

What flavours do you like / not like?
Like: peanut butter, strawberry, green tea, peppermint
Dislike: coconut

Who is your favourite MH / EAH character?
Cupid, Operetta, Poppy, Holly. Probably in that order.

Would you like to receive fanart of them?
Art of any kinds is always welcome! I have a wall in my room dedicate to art given to me by other people!

What is your favorite monster in general/Halloween theme/motif?
I like black cats and vampires/bats, but mainly only on the cute side of things. I also love pumpkins and candy corn. You can never have too much candy corn.

What are your favorite animals (real or mythical)?
Cats, dragons (especially the HTTYD variety as mentioned above!), unicorns

How do you feel about Harry Potter stuff, yay or nay?
It's okay. I do really like Harry Potter but it's not necessarily something I'm in love with. My favorite characters are Tonks and Luna and I consider myself a Ravenclaw, if that helps.

How do you feel about My Little Pony stuff, yay or nay?
I'm okay with it. :) As far as Friendship is Magic goes, Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle are my favorites.

Do you mind unboxed dolls or are you a NIB collector?
Nothing stays in boxes here; unboxed is fine!

What's your favorite color(s)?
Grey (any shade, but especially medium-dark shades) and pastels.

What are your favorite clothing styles?
I just recently found out about fairy kei and I am in absolute love with it! Pastels are an obsession with me so it's perfect. I really am a big fan of anything sweet and girly- sweet loli is cute! I'm also a fan of pastel goth/punk/grunge type things.

Do you collect Barbie or her stuff?
Not really.

What are your favorite patterns/styles?
Hmm... I like plaids and polka dots. Also anything to do with candy/cupcakes. I'm sure you're sensing a theme here. :)

Quickly as you can, name your top 3 favoritest most favorite things in all the world over. 1 2 3 GO!
Rapunzel! How to Train Your Dragon! Cupcakes!

Do you wear jewelry?
Not really. I do have pierced ears and occasionally wear different earrings but usually just leave the same studs in all the time because my ears are fairly sensitive. I love hair accessories, though, as I said above!

Favourite book / author
Favorite book series would be Hero's Guide by Christopher Healy- I highly recommend it especially if you like fairy tale retellings- as well as The Legend of Eli Monpress by Rachel Aaron. Both of these are the only books I've made custom dolls of. :) Other favorite authors include Diana Wynne Jones, Terry Pratchett, and Herbie Brennan.

Which Hogwarts house do you belong to?
Proud ravenclaw all the way!

Chocolate - milk, dark, white, none at all?
Any! I especially like dark though.

Do you have any of the Fright-mares and/or 17 inch dolls?
Not yet. I don't have much interest in the Fright-mares but I can almost guarantee Gooliope will be joining the dolly fam someday soon.

I've got a custom doll that used Getting Fairest Apple for a base, and I'd like to put her on the taller Duchess body, so I was wondering if there was anyone wanting to make a short Duchess who would be willing to swap bodies with me. Just let me know if you're interested!

I also have a sig Ashlynn Ella that I might be interested in trading for a Mirror Beach Ashlynn. Either complete for complete or nude for nude is fine; I would like to keep the stand.

2/29- This should be all of what I have to offer. Take a gander!

Doll Quilts[/u]
I've been making mini, doll-sized quilts! They're $20 each, but you can use the ARENA5OFF code at my Etsy to get them for $5 off!

Ladybug Patchwork Quilt:

Disappearing Nine-Patch Quilt:

Custom Dolls
Connie Maheswaran $55

Comes with three custom outfits and accessories. See etsy listing here:
Use ARENA5OFF for $5 off.

Cotton Candy Howleen $30

She's on a Cleo body so she's standard size instead of little sister. Rerooted in 3 color saran, repainted with pastels, acrylic paint, watercolor pencil, and gloss and sealed with MSC. I accidentally cut her neck hole too big so even with hair elastics on the neck peg she's a bit wobbly.

Baby Blue $25

Hair cut only- not rerooted. Repainted with pastels, acrylic paint, watercolor pencil and gloss and sealed with MSC. She does still have leg fins; I found them in my searching today.[/spoiler]

Other Dolls

Sparkle Princess Merida $3

Mattel Sparkle Princess line. Her hair has been boil permed, and the plastic faux-lacing on her shoes were cut off to make flats. Comes with modified shoes, skirt, belt, and crown.

Color Magic Anna $3

Mattel Color Magic Anna. Her hair has been styled to resemble her coronation hairstyle and has probably been cut as a result; it's been a while so I don't remember how much I had to adjust things for her. Front panel of dress changes color when wet just fine. Comes with shoes, crown, necklace, and color-changing dress.

Baity Anna $1

Mattel Sparkle Princess line. Her face has been wiped for customization; if someone doesn't snatch her up I'll probably eventually repaint her myself. Includes cape, skirt, boots, and crown.

Pinkie Pie $3

Had the crystal kingdom labelling on her package. She's been sitting in the packaging until today when I took her out for photos and such, but the plastic came unglued from the cardboard and her accessories fell out. I'm including this piece of cake that I think came with her.

Applejack $3

Still in packaging. Comes as shown with mask and what looks to be a perfume bottle.

Pullip Stock

Isul Sith Stock (see below for prices)

Wig $5
Pants $5
Hat $3
Bag $3
Or take all for $15

Miscellaneous Doll Accessories

Jasmine Stock Outfit $2

Hasbro Shimmer Princess Jasmine outfit. One piece. Fits relatively loosely on MH/EAH.

Eating Utensils .50

I think these are both from two different My Little Pony toys? Obviously not to scale with each other.

Vi and Va Headband .50

Too big for MH/EAH. The closest fit I've found so far is Ai BJD's. I think it might possibly work on a Star Darling but I don't have one to check either.

Vi and Va shoes $.50

I've not yet found anything that fits these.

Vi and Va figurine $1

It's rubbery and if it's supposed to serve some sort of purpose I don't know what that is.

Flower Hair Clips $1

I don't remember where these originated from- maybe a Rapunzel doll? $1 for the whole lot.

Candy Hair Clips $1

Pretty sure these are from a My Little Pony.

Miscellaneous Stand Parts $1

Two bases, two clips, one pole. The pole is + shaped while the holes in the clips are T shaped so they won't go together. Hopefully somebody else can use them. $1 for the whole lot.

Draculaura's Darkroom / Greys' Photos (9/12 Nico)
« on: August 10, 2015, 09:54:02 PM »
I've just recently decided to be more proactive about actually taking nice pictures of my dolls, so here's one of my first batches! It's also giving me the chance to learn the personalities of my dolls, which is really fun. When I was packing to move back home for the summer, my Once Upon a Zombie Rapunzel (known as Zel) decided she and Dexter Charming ("Dex") were a couple whether he liked it or not, so they got a photoshoot together this morning.

Apparently Dex is an aspiring actor, and a decent one at that. He's also a massive ham.

Nobody's entirely sure how he actually feels about Zel. He was extremely resistant when she first "claimed" him, and still is often aloof and tries to push her away, but also frequently acts tenderly toward her. All their friends know he's putting on an act for one attitude or the other, but they can't seem to agree which one is the act. Zel, for her part, usually seems oblivious of his apparent disdain for her. Either she's really that airheaded, or she's in on the act and not letting on.

Zel's a bit of an airhead and really quite friendly, but still a zombie through and through and doesn't always know how to interact with other people. She claims she's never eaten anyone, but the others have some doubts. Ginger Breadhouse, especially, doesn't really like to be alone with her.

Customs / Greys' Customs: 7/9 Bumblebee Pippa Update
« on: August 10, 2015, 08:03:39 AM »
My old thread got locked due to inactivity so here's my new one! Link to my previous thread:,6444.msg148780.html#msg148780

8/10 I got some new supplies (chalk pastels, watercolor pencils, gloss) so I've been experimenting. Not the greatest faces I've done but it's good to get some practice in!

What I've learned: I like chalk pastels for blushing and eyeshadow but can't seem to get as vibrant colors as some people can. Not sure what I'm doing wrong- any ideas? I like pencils for eyebrows but not for pupils; still trying to decide how I feel about them for lips. I apparently need to do gloss after final sealant if I want it to actually be glossy.

Customs / Styling brushed yarn?
« on: April 22, 2015, 05:45:43 AM »
how do you guys go about styling brushed yarn hair/wigs? I'm making a brushed yarn wig for a doll right now, and while a lot of the process isn't really new for me (I crochet and have done several crocheted dolls with brushed yarn hair) I'm not entirely sure how to go about styling it so it'll look (and stay) nice. Most of the crocheted dolls I've done have gotten pretty messy-headed over time, although living on my bed probably doesn't help that...

I'm wanting to get it to look like naturally wavy hair, a little bit poofy. Any advice?

Clawdeen's Closet / Greys' Sewing
« on: April 01, 2015, 07:18:31 PM »
Most of the time I only sew for custom dolls so the dresses get posted there but once in a while that's not true or I make additional outfits, so I thought I'd get something started up here.

I made a new dress for my Snow White custom doll. I think it suits her very well!

The pattern was self-designed, and I'm still working on specifics, but I think it turned out relatively good. It actually uses the same bodice/skirt pattern pieces as the dress I sewed for the Rapunzel custom doll I just posted on my customs thread, with some minor modifications (shortening of the skirt panel and addition of an extra skirt panel for more fullness, gathering of the front of the bodice). Oddly enough, the bodice fits almost too tightly on Rapunzel but is way loose on Snow (her stand disguises it), so I'm not sure what I did different there. I plan to keep tweaking this pattern and will probably eventually share it so others can use it if you so desire!

Customs / Blushing/Shading with acrylic paint?
« on: March 28, 2015, 07:02:03 AM »
Just out of curiosity, does anyone here ever do blushing/shading with acrylic paints, and if so, what's your method? I really like working with acrylic paints and don't really want to have to buy pastels or something else to work with (especially not halfway through a set of customs that are all from the same book series and I'd like them to all look similar) but I'm having trouble finding a method that blends well and doesn't go on too thick. Any advice would be appreciated!

Customs / Mini-Customization: Faceless Kiyomi
« on: March 24, 2015, 10:22:38 AM »
So I love the idea of Kiyomi (I love anything Japan-related-- I'll be going there this summer!-- and really like her colors and outfit) but something about her just wasn't doing it for me. She was on sale when I went doll-hunting yesterday, though, so I couldn't resist, and I finally concluded I just really don't like her eyes. So I thought, why not make her truly faceless? That's what I did, and I like her so much better now!

I left her lipstick, because I figure a fashionista needs her lipstick.

Brags / Ross Score!
« on: March 17, 2015, 01:48:23 PM »
So I decided that I'd spend the $20 I got in a birthday card from my grandma on my doll collection, and did some browsing today to see if any of my top wants were available. TRU had both Kiyomi and Lorna, who I'd like to own at some point, and they were having a 20% off sale (they also had no less than 30 Sig Raven Queen's, but I digress). I considered buying one of them, but decided on a whim I'd check out Ross (which is just a couple doors down) just in case first. And boy, am I glad I did! I was able to snag Monster Scaritage Operetta for $7.99 and EAH Sig Cupid for $12.99! Cupid and Operetta are the two characters I'm allowing myself to collect all of, and I didn't have either of these dolls, so I'm thrilled!

They do both have some serious box hair, and Oppie's face isn't perfect (her eyes have a little wear and there's a red spot on her nose) but that doesn't bother me much!

Brags / Private Birthday Swap with Tabetha!
« on: March 02, 2015, 01:50:06 PM »
Tabetha beat me to bragging, but now it's my turn! We did a private birthday swap since we both have early March birthdays and can I just say, she spoiled me!

Here's everything all together(pardon my general inability to take pictures; it's really hard to find good lighting in a dorm):

And now for close-ups! Operetta's probably my favorite character (not counting Cupid) and Tabetha sent me lots of fun Operetta things.

I also really like a lot of Draculaura's stock, so she sent me some (also boots! I can't get enough boots!)

And then Operetta dolls! She sent me two Operettas to add to my collection! I'm super excited to have signature Operetta! (She also sent me stands but apparently I'm in dummy mode because I can't seem to get them put together right!  ^^;)

(Sig Oppie has her pet, purse, and diary too; I forgot to get a close-up of them.)

I'm starting to get an Operetta army amassed; I'm up to three now with the one I already had!

Thank you SOOOO much, Tabetha! I love everything!

Customs / Oops- missing neck joint? (Fixed!)
« on: February 21, 2015, 09:59:28 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this or not...

So I was trying to take a head off of an EAH doll for a custom and got a bit overzealous... Long story short I yanked the neck joint/articulator thingy out of the body. The joint itself is not broken; the front and back of the neck apparently separated enough for it to slip off the peg. All attempts to reattach it have been unsuccessful, and I really don't want to fight it too much for fear of breaking the body.

Anybody got any good tricks to either get this back on or make do without it? Just trying to stick the head back on results in a bit of a neckless wonder. I don't wanna give up on this custom completely if I can avoid it, but I'm just not sure what else I can do.

Customs / Advice for smallish curls?
« on: February 11, 2015, 07:53:11 PM »
I've got a custom doll I'm working on, and everything looks great, except the hair that frames her face.. I need it to be fairly curly. I made the mistake of cutting them before styling them thinking it would be easier, but that is not proving to be the case... If her hair were longer I'd just use bobby pins as rollers since that's about the size of curl I need, but they won't stay clipped for anything since I cut it (at a little shorter than shoulder length). Anybody got advice for a solution?

Also, is there any risk in doing to many hot water perms?

Brags / Cupid!
« on: February 10, 2015, 11:54:58 AM »
Yay I'm so excited! MH Cupid has long been my grail (Cupid is in a lot of ways the reason I got into EAH and then MH so...) but always seemed like one of those far-off dreams because of her price and not having a huge budget for dolls. But SeashellnBubbles was kind enough to sell her to me for a really good price and so I now have my grail long before I expected to! She arrived in the mail today and I'm so happy!

She doesn't have her smaller jewelry or purse, but I probably would have just stored that away for fear of losing it anyway and I'm just so happy to actually have her!
Sticky for grail doll brag. Michelle53 2/15

Customs / Greys' Customs- 4/1- Hero's Guide Rapunzel
« on: January 08, 2015, 10:11:49 PM »
(You'll find all of my customs here. New photos are added to the last post and update dates will be put in the title.)

Here's what I worked on over my winter break. Her name is Nico, and she's based on a character from one of my favorite book series (The Legend of Eli Monpress by Rachel Aaron).

Nico was customized from a Signature Raven Queen. She received a partial reroot/restyle, custom painted face, and hand-sewn coat made of felt. I might eventually give her shackles and/or boots; her character is (to oversimplify) part demon and usually wears the shackles to contain her demonic side, but I designed the doll after a point where she would no longer need them so I haven't quite decided yet. In my opinion, she's got the best face-up I've ever done.

I hope everyone likes her!

Customs / Several Customizing Questions (mainly head/reroot related)
« on: December 16, 2014, 02:47:50 PM »
Okay, so be patient with me here. I've got quite a few questions that I'd really love to hear from you guys on.

First off, I was wondering if anyone had any tips/tricks to share when it comes to doing a partial reroot on dolls? How exactly do you go about that? I'm wanting to replace the purple in Raven Queen's hair with black for a custom rather than having to reroot the whole thing but I just really don't know how people go about that.

Second, is it possible to cut off the animal ears on a doll and still get a decent looking reroot? I ask because Clawdeen has the perfect size and skin tone for a doll I want to do, but the character would be human and I wouldn't want her to have wolf ears. Cleo would work in a pinch but I'd really like to have the little sister size.

Third, is rerooting the head on a male doll with molded/sculpted hair (rather than rooted hair) much more difficult than rerooting a previously rooted doll? I'm wanting to do a doll with a really buff body so I'm thinking I'm gonna have to start with an action figure and I was just wondering whether it was going to be super challenging or look weird or anything.

Sorry if these are super basic questions! Thanks for any help!
