Customs / Slo Mo hair match?
« on: October 18, 2014, 06:33:00 PM »
I'm throwing this question out to those of you with a bit more experience with sites like dollyhair etc. Does anyone know of a combo of hair colours that would match Slo Mo's factory colour as much as possible? I want to get rid of his flocked section and root it with hair so he has a full head instead of a buzz cut, but I want to keep to his original colour/s as much as I can.

My daughter has book week at her school next week and on Thursday they are encouraged to dress up as a character from one of their favourite books. Now since she's only 6 and hasn't been reading properly long her having a favourite book is kinda hard, but she finally decided on one... A My Little Pony first reader! She want to go dressed as Princess Celestia on Thursday! She has some conditions though...
-No skirts or dresses
-Has to be comfortable (she's nuts when it comes to the feel of fabric etc)
-It has to be Princess Celestia! No other pony will do!
-Needs to be warm (it's winter here)
-Needs enclosed shoes (safety issue)
-Needs to be play friendly for when she's in the playground

So I've spent the last 2 days researching Princess Celestia cosplay outfits and trying to work with her demands. :pullhair: I've finally settled on white (why the hell did she have to choose a white character) leggings with shorts over the top, white long sleeved t-shirt and white high-top sneakers. Now I just have to make the decorative gold cuffs for her wrists and ankles, sew the sun cutie mark onto her shorts, whip up the crown and necklace and crochet the beanie with hair, ears and horn attached!
She better appreciate all the effort I'm going to for this! :annoyed: Hopefully it all comes together... but couldn't she have chosen Pinkie Pie or another of the mane 6 (though probably not Rarity) which would have been 1000 times easier!

Wish me luck people! :help:

Monster Discussion / Freaky Fusion Confusion
« on: August 10, 2014, 08:48:28 PM »
I don't collect all of the different MH ghouls, only a select few (Ghoulia, Operetta, Venus and Skelita) so I'm really undecided about the FF line. I think I'm going to get the Ghoulia and Oppie dolls because they are still pretty much the same as their standard dolls, just slightly different accesories and pops of different colours. I'm so undecided about Clawvenus though :wonder: I love Venus, but am not very fond of Clawdeen. So do I get Clawvenus because she is part Venus, or do I skip her because she is part Clawdeen?!

Do any of you guys have the mixed fusion dolls (the ones that are a mix of standard characters, not so much the ones like Bonita)? What do you think of them? Would you include them with a collection of other dolls or are they kind of a separate category all to themselves?

Argh! So hard to decide! :pullhair:

Customs / Changing Face Shapes
« on: August 07, 2014, 04:04:28 AM »
I want to try my hand at making a Dead Fast  to go on display with my SDCC Ghoulias and I'm thinking of using a Slo Mo doll since he has the correct skin tone right off the bat. However his cute cleft chin isn't really right for Dead Fast which got me wondering...

Is it possible to slightly modify the shape of a vinyl doll head by either sanding or shaving a bit off? Have any of you successfully altered the face mould of a doll at all?

My other thought was to possibly get the head off an Invisibilly and use that instead since there isn't much of a skin tone difference, but I think it would be more practical, not to mention cheaper, if I could somehow modify Slo Mo's face (it's really only his chin which seems the wrong shape).

So hit me with your best advice! Am I mad to try taking a scalpel to Slo Mo and pretty much wasting $20, or is it actually doable?

Monster Discussion / Why, Mattel?! Why?!
« on: August 01, 2014, 07:15:20 PM »
I got my Scaritage Oppie the other day and seriously had to do a double take when I opened her up! Operetta's signature fire engine red hair is one of the things I love so much about her and why I started collecting her. So why, oh why, did Mattel decide to give her Scaritage doll washed out salmon/watermelon pinkish hair?!  :annoyed:

Then to add insult to injury... my Oppie has some seriously squiffed eye screening! This is beyond eye wonk (which I'm usually blind to)! One of her pupils is much smaller than the other!  :bawl:

Look at that poor face!
I love her outfit (those spider dice capris are to die for!) but that hair is throwing me for a loop! I think I'm going to have to buy a new one (the completionist in me won't allow me to skip out on an Operetta in my collection, even if I don't like her hair) and the kids can have this one. They don't notice wonky faceups or such like and just like to have any doll!

Introductions! / No More Lurking...

After lurking around these boards for a bit I figured I should bite the bullet, sign up and reveal myself!

I'm Tegan, or Mama Teegz (a nickname I've had since before I was even a Mum) from down in the merry ol' land of Oz. I'm a Mum to 3 young kids who all share my enthusiasm for MH, which can be troublesome since they want to play with my dolls as well as their own! My husband and I have collected dolls (ok, the dolls is mainly me) and toys in general for some time, though most of them have been in storage while our kids were very small to avoid sticky little fingers grabbing (and destroying) our precious collections!
I mainly collect Ghoulia :ghoul:, Operetta :opera: and just recently Venus :venus:. I say mainly because I also have some Frankies and Skelitas dotted around. I've got 36 dolls (I think) so far... hopefully this number will increase greatly in the near future!

Other than collecting dolls I suffer from severe crafting ADD. I have a million half finished crafty projects (my husband is shocked when I actually follow through and complete something!) and my craft room looks like an explosion of fabric, yarn, glue, beads, paint and everything inbetween! I'm keen to put my crafty nature to something new and try my hand at customising MH dolls, particularly after seeing some of the amazing work other people produce!
