If I compare the trailer to the original series, this is really disappointing. It just doesn't feel like She-Ra... If I take it as an entirely new show on its own though, it actually looks really good. I'll definitely watch and see either way

I am disappointed that Ariel has a dress and not her tail  ^^; I doubt I will buy any of these, but I maybe would have bought mermaid Ariel

I like the art style more than I thought I was going to tbh. I don't like how dominant the very cartoony style of art (with unrealistic-proportions and hardly any details, depth, or shading) has become recently. This one is a decent medium. It still lacks the detail and depth, but at least the proportions are more realistic than what is usually seen.

I have to agree with Sakuya on the forced diversity. That's something that bugs me. I would rather them introduce an amazing new character rather than change the race or sexuality of a pre-existing character solely for the diversity aspect.

I was inspired by Monster High to develop two similar universe, Motor City High and Pixel High.

Motor City High exists on the same level as the organic world, but the characters shift between car and humanoid form. Some of the students include Cory Vette (1963 Split Window Corvette), Mariah Mustang (fastback classic Mustang), Helena Humvee, Fiona Ferrari, Dee Lorean (Back to the Future DeLorean) and Bella Aire (1956 Bel Air). The Principal is Franklin T Ford (model T), some of the teachers include Marty McLaren and Roy Rotsun (Based off the Rotsun from the show Roadkill Classics, look it up, it's pretty interesting)

Pixel High is where all kinds of video game characters go, such as Lizzy Croft (The easily-scared daughter of Lara Croft), even an elf girl from WoW who's clumsy and a mage who can't even make a simple spell! Some of the staff include Cortana (BEFORE she went rampant) who's got the tech classes covered, and Scorch ( Demolitions ace from Republic Commando) who teaches Chemistry 101.
Okay, I really love that Pixel High idea...

Maybe a difference in the different factories?
That is my guess as well.

My lagoonafire came in the mail today! I plan to use her as the base for a custom  :biggrin:

Ahhh!!!!!! I am so glad that I actually love these lines! I am so surprised! I knew I would like the hoodie line (its a bit more...  crazy that I thought it'd be, but thats okay ^^; ), but I am surprised that I like the tea party line as well! I LOVE that Lagoona's top! And that Clawdeen looks so regal! Also, that Ari's hair is so crazy and fangtastic that I need her too, haha! Yay for new MH lines that are actually decent! Please keep improving Mattel!

I randomly remembered one incredibly small, yet incredibly amazing, change from G1 to G2... LAGOONA GOT BLUEGREEN EYEBROWS! Haha, her purple ones always aggravated me  ^^;

Haha, sorry if our answers were a tad depressing. I think time is a magical healing factor for toy lines. I mean, look at My Little Pony. I don't collect ponies or anything, but they've been more popular these past few years than I have ever seen them.

As for a resurgence right now, I think releasing a few sets a year like the Cleo and Ghoulia set would be a good first step. The next would be to stop with the budget lines, because I think no one really buys those and they just end up costing MH more money. Start making more sets that have more details and interesting themes with fully articulated dolls. Release some new interesting characters, and attempt to draw in the new audience of kids. Push the specials (maybe a movie or two onto Nickelodeon?) and hope that they get a new wave of interest from kids.

I'm actually getting more in MH than I have been in a long time  ^^; I now have all the time I need to collect all the dolls I've wanted over the years but never got. Its actually kind of fun hunting them down online for the best prices. I am also going to be ordering some large MH lots off of eBay soon because I want to start customizing and grab a ton of bait dolls before their prices go up. Right before the reboot I ditched MH and focused on my American Girl Doll collection, but I'm back, and my love for the MH brand is stronger than ever!

I agree that if Gen2 fails they should let it sit for a while. Give it some time to breathe, and then bring it back with Gen1 quality. In the meantime though, I would love if they could do a limited number of collector dolls per year via pledge purchases. Make them SDCC quality and have a pre-sale so that the quality and design and everything will be high.

Trader Support / To Exchange Or No?
« on: February 26, 2018, 12:40:10 PM »
Okay, so heres the deal:
I recently purchased the Cleo and Ghoulia Exclusive (for SDCC) two pack for $40 off of Its part of their limited quantity 'Vault', where they sell old toys that they have leftover stock of. When it arrived today, I was kind of disappointed to find that Cleo has slight scuffing all across her top lip (and a little bit of wonk). The painting on Ghoulia's lips looks almost like it is flecking upwards rather than being a smooth line, and theres a tiny little scuff in the paint on Ghoulia's heels. These aren't super huge issues, and if these were playline dolls I wouldn't be bothered, but these are exclusive "Adult Collector" (as the box says) dolls. I don't plan to debox them, and it kind of bugs me that they came with these imperfections. The thing is though, I don't think that they will pay for the shipping if I ask for an exchange. I don't know if its worth the hassle of paying for shipping and sending the dolls back. So do I just keep these and not worry about it, or do I ask for the exchange and hope to get another set that is a bit less messy?

First wave ghoulia. I never really liked the doll herself but her clothes are really nice. I love her style and Iím glad to have her. Her bag is VERY detailed and I was very impressed on how beautiful she is. Not a big fan of her hair. Feels weird like venusís for some reason.. EDIT: her glasses are super cute too!
Signature and SDCC Ghoulia are my holy grail dolls! Even if she's not one of your grails, I'll congratulate you anyway :P Also, I think she is one of the few dolls to have doll-grade kanekalon hair on certain editions along with Spectra and Venus. I'm not positive whether Signature Ghoulia has kanekalon hair or not, but I'm pretty sure some versions of her do, so that could be why it feels weird.

Turns out there was something Monster High at Toy Fair. Skip to around 7:55 for the MH part.
Haha, you got me really excited for it to just be those mini squishies  ^^;

Also, Mommy from Mommy and Gracie show pointed out in the end that she was told that no, there are no MH or EAH dolls because they needed space for Jurassic World and other initiatives, but that it doesn't mean that there won't be dolls...which to me sounds like such a cop out answer  ^^; I mean, yeah...there will be dolls. But it also shows that MH and EAH are not in their list of priorities anymore, something we already knew, i guess.
I think Mattel really prioritized Jurassic World and the Polly Pocket reboot this Toy Fair. I have my fingers crossed that Monster High will get at least one decent line with articulation and such.

I just ordered the 2017 Exclusive Cleo and Ghoulia two pack! Mattel pulled it from SDCC last second, but it has the higher SDCC quality (G1 styles too!) so I'm excited :biggrin:

Monster Discussion / Re: Grief over the end of G1?

But to get back on topic, I hate seeing we’re getting ugly low quality dolls now compared to back when when we were getting amazingly gorgeous and detailed dolls. I mean, some dolls even had rings! Rings! They had articulation, ACTUAL clothing, and even pets/diaries! Now we’re getting dolls with half molded clothing, horrible articulation ( if any LOL ).

I think that's the main reason we now sound like a bunch of crybabies.
We were spoil rotten with so many good features and quality that we think we deserve a good product.

I don't think any of us sounds like crybabies for expecting good quality. I mean, we do deserve a good product, I don't think any of us would have started collecting Monster High dolls if they were ugly and low-quality in the beginning, but what Mattel did was grab our attention with wonderful dolls and now that we're hooked up, we're getting scraps of plastic pretending to be our beloved characters. Some lines are still pretty (Shriekwrecked is adorable for example), but just put the "Sleepover" line next to the "Dead Tired" one and the difference in quality is obvious.

Just to be clear, I do think I sound like a cry baby :( Mattel showed me the heaven and then took it away and broke me -insert hours of more fake drama-

but by no means did I intended to say that any of you sound like me ^^U
Sorry if that was not clear
No, haha, I feel like a crybaby :sheepish: Or at least I did. I completely stopped collecting Monster High. I refused to buy any dolls after Freak Du Chic. I basically gave up on Monster High without giving it the final chance. I think it helped that I was becoming interested in some other dolls, so it was easy for me to just stop collecting, blame it on the reboot, and not look back. I really missed Monster High though, and I finally got over it a bit recently when I watched some Ghoul Squad, saw the new movie animation, and realized that I actually really like the G2 canon. Even if they look a bit less gothic and 'monstery', the show itself has some aspects that are way cooler to me--like that they finally have their monster powers that I've been wanting since the start of G1. I remember originally thinking that Count Fabulous was supposed to be Draculaura as a bat, and I was so confused/disappointed when I found out he was her pet :haha:  There are some things about G2 that I just cannot do (like the super basic no-articulation budget lines *shudders*), but I think I will buy all the core dolls G2 signatures and all of the exclusive dolls and cherry pick the other ones that I like (like Moanica and certain versions of other characters). I guess it's a matter of finding the light within the shadows. Once I found some stuff I liked about G2, it was easier to like the G2 dolls for their own reasons.
