Monster Discussion / Re: Cleo and Ghoulia Origins 2-Pack!

Holy Cow they look AMAZING. I don't know if I'll pick these up, but I'm considering it very very much.
They look great!

... if it's a Mattel Shop exclusive, how would an international peep go about acquiring it? Do we have experience from past exclusives?

IIRC, Finnegan Wake was a Mattel Shop exclusive. He was available in stores internationally.

Oh gosh this is a pretty Frankie! I might snatch these two up when they go on super clearance.

I'm worried if there aren't any SDCC dolls that they won't have any panels or previews like they usually do. It would suck if we had to wait to find out about new dolls until they popped up on amazon or store shelves.

There's always Toy Fair but yeah this is my biggest worry too :(.

I know SDCC exclusives are a pain in the butt for most collectors, but even when I'm not interested I was glad they existed as a kind of through-line between the adult collectors and the brand. I suppose dolls like the Draculaura/Skelita/Abbey are meant to fill the void but it still feels off.

I don't think I'll shell out for Treesa, but I like her a lot now that we have real pics. I think she'd benefit from a pair of shorts rather than skirt.

More accessory painting done! Starfire this time

Full Body shot

I tried my best to match the silver of her boots and gauntlets. It's a bit too dark honestly.

Customs / Re: So many doll hair colors - HOW TO CHOOSE???
« on: June 04, 2017, 09:39:31 AM »
I tend to coordinate hair colors with outfits in addition to makeup! If I have an outfit for her to wear it becomes infinitely easier for me to figure out what I want to see in the hair department.

For your reroot, was the scalp painted that way or did you put down fresh paint to mark your colors?

I painted her scalp myself! I need a guideline and it was recommended on some of the tutorials I read.

Monster Discussion / Re: Predictions for SDCC 2017?
« on: May 28, 2017, 08:05:16 AM » This Ghoulia has a side-glance just like the Cleo, her makeup looks familiar but her hair doesn't (and Ghoulia's makeup palettes were never very expansive anyway).

The more a Ghoulia/Cleo 2pack becomes likely the less sure I am of what the exact theme of the exclusive is supposed to be.

Cute!! I think the shoes still look adorable but smaller brushes would help if you're wanting to redo. What size brush do you use?

Honestly I'm not sure. It says "1" on the handle.

Exactly was it says on the tin! I've been meaning to make this thread so I can just put all my stuff in one place.

First we have my progress on my first reroot. I started her around winter break but then second semester started kicking my butt so she fell to the wayside. Now that it's summer I'm hoping to get back on the horse.

I modified my Justine quite a while ago. Probably Spring Break? I didn't like how her corset ruined the silhouette of her skirt so I cut off the sections that wrapped around her hips. I also gave her Bunny's earrings (they kinda look like trees if you squint), another bracelet, and a pair of tights.

Farrah got an upgrade too. The later signatures really don't measure up to the first wave and I like Farrah so I wanted her to be on that level (kinda). I gave her Kiyomi's belt and bracelet because I thought the pink would look nice. The other bracelet is from IHF Whisp I think. I know the chains are really out of place but the cherry blossoms actually kind of look like stars to me so she's keeping it.

I'm really proud of her earrings. I bought these wand charms to go on her headband (somehow) but they work better here.

That's all the old stuff. More recently (as in like, within the past couple of days) I've been painting more accessories for my ghouls. A lot of them turned out sloppier than I wanted, so eventually I'll have to back and fix them some more but these have been on my radar for months so it feels good to get them off my mind.

First Day of School Draculaura's shoes finally got some black paint on their soles/heels. They actually got another coat after I took this pic and I cleaned up the edges but I haven't taken a 2nd pic yet.

Cleo's shoes got detailed as well.

So did Lagoona's. I cleaned up hers as well after this.

I'm not super happy with how Frankie's turned out though. I used my small detail brush to do the stitches on the side but they didn't come out as clean as I wanted. Maybe I needed an even smaller brush? They look cute from a distance though.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

My favorite one out of these last few days of painting have been these shoes for Raven. I thought it was kind of sad that the Spellbinding Raven didn't get her own shoe mould when the REA Apple did so I bought a pair of the Fearfully Feisty Inner Monster Shoes and painted them up for her! They turned out both better and worse than I'd hoped. I wish the black had been able to come out more.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I also seriously pumped up my CGI accurate customs of the First Day at School Ghouls. Draculaura still needs a pair of leggings and Clawdeen needs a belt but I'm almost there! The only one left is Cleo, who I'm replacing with her Ghoul's Beast Pet release bc I like her hair better :P

Shoes (see what I meant about Frankie's looking fine from a distance?)

Draculaura's Darkroom / Re: ReversedUser's Photostream

Man I've been out of lately. At least I have photos to share!

I totally missed out on the Fierce Rockers 2pack, so GS Toralei is back to being my one and only. I put her in Frankie's FP (with some modifications) and I think she rocks it! Her makeup really helps.

I also redressed my IHF Whisp. I notice a lot of people don't like this particular outfit and honestly I don't get it. I think it's really stylish

Anyone feel like the SDCC reveals for all companies seem late this year.

It definitely feels like it but last year's reveals were really early so maybe that's why? The 2014 and 2015 MH reveals were around right about now.

I finally got the Grandpa Munster pop I needed to complete the set and I bought Adrienne and McKeyla's formal dolls since they're on sale on amazon.

Do you prime the plastic with something before painting?
Yep! I use Testors Dullcote as both the primer and the sealant because it's easier for me to get than MSC. I haven't had any problems with it.

What medium do you use? Acrylic paints? pastels maybe?
Acrylic paints for the most part. I just use the stuff I get at craft stores. Apple Barrel and whatnot.
Will the paint rub off on my doll and stain my doll?
It shouldn't if you seal it correctly, but like others have stated I don't usually paint the parts that touch the doll. This goes for whether or not it will scratch off too.

What types of brushes or tools do you use?
I use regular paint brushes from the craft store (hobby lobby, Michael's, etc). They came in a pack of differing sizes. I also have some brushes for detail work and whatnot. I'd go for higher quality, they'll last you longer.

Do you have any links to share on this subject?
There's a masterpost in the customs thread with a section devoted to repainting accessories, I took a lot of cues from that and a couple I found on my own I like this one in particular

any other tips?
- Remember to water down your paint and work in thin layers. I have way better results when I do this rather than just using the paint as is. I think it helps set into the details without covering them.
- Invest in some wooden dowels. You can hang shoes from them while they dry without having to worry about the paint rubbing off. I also use they when I spray.

I have the Hat-Tastic Tea Party Set and Briar's Thronecoming book. I like the Thronecoming set the best, it's so good for taking photos and I adore the Briar that came with it. I sold the Maddie that came with the tea party set but I still like having the table and chairs and other props.

Monster Discussion / Re: Where do you buy your dolls from?

All over the place honestly. I get most in store or off amazon but most of my older releases are from ebay or my local thrift store. I used to pay full price all the time but I got more patient and thrifty over time.
