Off Topic / Re: What non-MH purchase did you recently make? 2.0

I finally got the Grandpa Munster pop I needed to complete the set and I bought Adrienne and McKeyla's formal dolls since they're on sale on amazon.

Customs / Re: accessory painting questions
« on: May 18, 2017, 11:30:22 AM »
Do you prime the plastic with something before painting?
Yep! I use Testors Dullcote as both the primer and the sealant because it's easier for me to get than MSC. I haven't had any problems with it.

What medium do you use? Acrylic paints? pastels maybe?
Acrylic paints for the most part. I just use the stuff I get at craft stores. Apple Barrel and whatnot.
Will the paint rub off on my doll and stain my doll?
It shouldn't if you seal it correctly, but like others have stated I don't usually paint the parts that touch the doll. This goes for whether or not it will scratch off too.

What types of brushes or tools do you use?
I use regular paint brushes from the craft store (hobby lobby, Michael's, etc). They came in a pack of differing sizes. I also have some brushes for detail work and whatnot. I'd go for higher quality, they'll last you longer.

Do you have any links to share on this subject?
There's a masterpost in the customs thread with a section devoted to repainting accessories, I took a lot of cues from that and a couple I found on my own I like this one in particular

any other tips?
- Remember to water down your paint and work in thin layers. I have way better results when I do this rather than just using the paint as is. I think it helps set into the details without covering them.
- Invest in some wooden dowels. You can hang shoes from them while they dry without having to worry about the paint rubbing off. I also use they when I spray.

I have the Hat-Tastic Tea Party Set and Briar's Thronecoming book. I like the Thronecoming set the best, it's so good for taking photos and I adore the Briar that came with it. I sold the Maddie that came with the tea party set but I still like having the table and chairs and other props.

Monster Discussion / Re: Where do you buy your dolls from?

All over the place honestly. I get most in store or off amazon but most of my older releases are from ebay or my local thrift store. I used to pay full price all the time but I got more patient and thrifty over time.

I'd also love articulated dolls of Star Wars characters.

I can't believe I got my wish.

They were a thing BEFORE all of this new 'Force of Destiny' stuff..... They were last made in 2005 for Revenge of the Sith, obviously I own the clones. They were waaaaaaay nicer than these new ones and they actually had face-sculpts that looked like the characters. Just wanted to point that out.

Oh I already knew about those. I just really wanted dolls of the sequel trilogy characters and now they exist!

I found this on Tumblr today. These are mostly pictures we've seen before, but one of them looks new.
Could the Ghoulia in the bottom right be the SDCC one?

The Ghoulia on the bottom is Scooter Ghoulia. That picture belongs to minxy-meow and is totally unrelated. Not sure what it's doing there.

Off Topic / Re: Reboots, Remakes, and Revivals oh my!

I'm honestly a little in shock that 90s nostalgia is already here, but I guess looking back 80s nostalgia has been completely exhausted .

Ducktales looks good, I like what we have so far. Fingers crossed for Darkwing Duck or some of the other Disney Afternoon shows! Movie-wise the only disney remakes that are worth it in my book are ones like Pete's Dragon and The Jungle book where there are major flaws in the storytelling rather than like, minor nitpicks that get harped on in articles. They'd have a better success rate remaking the Disney direct-to-video sequels than the original canon.

I'll admit to having interest in the Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins Returns though. I've never been the hugest fan of the former (it's just okay) but I want to see what Lin can bring to the table for both projects. I was never a huge fan of Aladdin either but I'm interested in how Guy Ritchie will handle it. I've liked some of his other films. I have to agree that it's way too early to say anything about Mulan. Honestly I welcome the fact that it's not a musical, to me it means they're committed making it unique. I'm not interested in a solo Cruella film at all honestly, does a woman who wanted to skin puppies really deserve a tragic backstory? Not to mention that, cheesy as they were, 101 Dalmatians already has two live action adaptations. With Glenn Close in them! Anything after that is a step down tbh. I thought I heard something about a Sword in the Stone remake in the distant future? THAT sounds promising.

I still don't really "get" why Power Rangers made a blockbuster film when the show is still running. Usually they save those for when the property is over and done with but I guess Transformers did it too (TFA premiered the fall/winter after the Bay movies first started) so whatever. I've heard it's decent so I'm excited to see it. The suits are still ugly though.

Nickelodeon is having a field day with their stuff. Hey Arnold's jungle movie is happening, which is great because I love that the writers finally get their vision on screen. Just the other day Invader Zim got announced for a TV movie in 2018 and I'm having horrible middle school flashbacks but other than that I'm super excited and so is the CEO of Hot Topic amirite. The Rocko's thing sounds cool too.

I'm excited for the Jumanji sequel. It's going to be a big dumb mess of a film and I am READY. The original movie was far from a masterpiece and this will be the same. Maybe It'll lead to a runoff of nostalgia so Zathura can get a remake/sequel. Kristen Stewart is still acting too they could totally get her.

Monster Discussion / Re: Who are the freakiest ghouls out there?
« on: April 12, 2017, 07:21:56 PM »
In terms of being strictly "off the wall" freaky I'd say Any of the multi-armed ghouls count, the insect ghouls, the GSR ghouls, and the scaly ghouls. Talking from a personal place I'd have to say Iris is the only one that's legit bothered me to a certain degree. I got over it eventually but there was a time that my IHF Iris gave me a bit of the creeps

Finally found a box of D codes at HEB of all places. Too bad all three of them have serious errors . They're still cute though, so I guess I'll live, maybe I'll try repainting the ones with screening errors.

I hope these are mom names. Clawdeen's mom is a pretty big part of both movies and she doesn't have a freaking name.

She does have a name actually.  It's Harriet.

I know that was her name in the Lisi Harrison books, but in the credits of both WTMH and Electrified she's only "Clawdeen's Mom" and no one has called her by an actual name.

Draculaura's Darkroom / Show me face variants!
« on: March 29, 2017, 08:15:11 PM »
What the title says! I've recently become curious about facial variation in the dolls (specifically my Sig Blondie) so I'd like to see her releases the most but show me all the variants! Monster High and Ever After High!

Customs / Re: I partially repainted my Gooliope (+ funny story)
« on: March 29, 2017, 08:11:40 PM »
That is so funny omg. It was meant to be man :P. Also she looks really good!

If I didn't have sig Nefera I'd probably spring for Scream and Sugar. I like her purple accents and her outfit is more versatile.

My guess would be that they wanted a character who to serve as the bridge between MH and EAH and encourage people who like monster high to at least check out ever after high because one of the characters goes there now. The more traditional interpretations of Cupid the mythical figure fit pretty well into fairytale contexts so she was the obvious choice. Of course she didn't actually do anything in the lost movie clips so who knows really.
