Trader Support / Concerns with Dollyhair's owner...Racial bias?
« on: October 23, 2019, 07:43:45 PM »
I'm surprised I haven't seen anything recent about this on here, but it's being discussed in several groups on FB and on instagram that some evidence has been brought to light regarding Tina, the owner of DollyHair possibly having ties to some white supremacy groups. I thought it was important to make the doll collecting community here aware...

The link with the best/most information on this is the Bad B/S/T/ group and Robin Black's personal page.

"...this information spread very quickly once it resurfaced (I was not aware of it until today but there is information from a few years ago mentioning it). You are most definitely free to make your own decisions on this matter. No one is going to force you to believe something. This was posted here to make you aware that this is out there. You can read all of the comments that were posted on the OP. Tina has also responded in the OP as well."

Some people have accused me of witch hunting, which is not my intention. My intention is sharing information, and the screenshots below (save for the last one from my own email) are visible for public viewing with a simple google search. As soon as I learned her facebook name, I tagged Tina and asked for her input on this, which she has responded to in the comments below. If you are unable to see that, the short version is that Tina states she has been aware of these posts in her name for years now but says she was not the one who posted them. She states it could have been her ex-husband or a competitor intent on slandering her. I personally am skeptical of this defense but as far as I know there is no way to prove, one way or another, which side is true. Someone has suggested setting up a donation button on her site for an anti-hate organization or group and she seems pretty receptive to that idea.

Original post 8:30AM CST:

Public post - feel free to share.

MLP/MH/Barbie and other doll collectors & customisers, you need to hear this.

It's going around Tumblr that Tina, owner of dollyhair, is a white supremacist. Back in 2007 she was posting on the nazi forum Stormfront, created by the KKK Grand Wizard. She was advocating for a whites only community and refusing to sell property or do business with non-whites. Those 2 screenshots are from the Tumblr post.

Before sharing this info, I wanted to be ABSOLUTELY sure that the email ties back to Tina, so I did a little research myself, and found that she used that email both in response to a negative review in 2012 as well as on her own business website. Furthermore I searched my own email and came up with old dollyhair purchase confirmations.

It is definitely her. Dollyhair supports segregation and illegal racial discrimination. Is this somebody you want to do business with?"

Off Topic / Re: Netflix She-Ra Animated Series

Yes, there is not much of a point if most of the show stays the same, but to me it seems she is moreso trying to do her own thing and push her own ideology than to recreate a beloved show. And as far as I understood, she didnt see any episodes till after the reboot was at least nearing completion.  That is something that strikes me as odd, I myself would want to watch through as much content I could to see where it wanted to go, where it didnt want to go, get a feel for the characters and their dynamics. That research is such important work to see what can be changed in order to make a good retelling. Ducktales did this, and they improved things that were a bit plain, but they didnt totaly substitute what came before it. My Little Pony did this too.

She isnt even reigning in Bows VA when he start speaking ill of the original, nor does she vocalize disagreement which suggests to me that she do agree with him. So I do not take much stock in what she say about wishing she could been alive at She-Ras original runtime... She could have taken time to sit down and watch She-ra at any time long before this anyway. So I sense dishonesty there.
I have also seen some of Noelles tweets from before the She-ra show and they arent exactly flattering.
So I do believe I am being fair to her.

And dont worry I know you arent trying to insult me. We all have different perspectives and this is just how I interpret things.
May I ask where you are getting all your information on this from? According to Noelle's Twitter, she's seen quite a few episodes, uses character images for reference and even quotes "Flowers for Hordak" as one of her favorite episodes.

I personally don't think that she ignored the original series at all and it seems to me she took it into account while still taking creative liberties.

I just am not sure where all the vitriol is coming from, I don't want to argue with you I just want to know where you heard what you are basing your opinion on this from :)

As far as reigning in Bow's voice actor, while she is sorta his boss, I don't see where thats her responsibility, its his opinion he is expressing...

I meant to refer to Bows voice actor, he might not have straight out insulted it but i couldnt find a better word. Oh the limits of language when you are not a native speaker...
I understand the language barrier possibly being an issue, But Noelle has stated that she wishes she had been alive to have originally watched the series when she was a kid and has indeed seen some episodes from what she has said. So I'm sorry to say but I don't think you're being very fair to her. She has stated that if they recreated the original and kept everything the same there would be no point (just watch the original if that's what you want to see)...

I'm not trying to insult you or others or anything, and you're free to your opinion to dislike the show, but lets be fair to the creators and not assign things like a disregard for the show without unfounded evidence :)

I'm actually a hardcore She-Ra fan and am really looking forward to it! I have issues with a few of the redesigns and a voice here or there, but Overall I am VERY excited...

I cant even recognize the characters because they are racebent so much. Even Ducktales knew to keep things recognizable.
But what can ya expect when the creators are insulting the original show in public on comicon?
Where did she insult the show? I know Bow's voice actor wasn't overly kind to the original, but I didn't see Noelle or any otehr creators saying anything insulting and I watched the panel on youtube...

Thanks for looking!

If you go on Garrett’s instagram, it sounds like its a custom?

So probably a one-off

Yeah you're right.  Especially the part about "share these hashtags to make it happen."

*Edit:  And if you go to @rebecula13's Instagram, she has a recent post (July 13th) where she appears to confirm that there is no MH exclusive this year:
Garret tagged her in the Cleo-Lyn photo, so it looks like that's her doll.
Oh ok, cool, wel thanks for the investigative work every one...Kinda a lil disappointing that they are being so vague with details imho!

I've edited the first post accordingly, if it needs to be moved all means :)

Are you sure that she's going to be for sale?  There's no mention of her on SDCC Blog, and she's not listed on Mattel's pre-sale page. :/
Not sure but the little tag that has MH  x MOTU I think validates it...

I mean, maybe.  But usually their tags have some amount of merchandise information on them—pricing, what store/venue the item will be available through, general release time frame, etc..  But that tag has no price, nothing that says "SDCC exclusive", nothing that indicates that it'll be for sale at all.  Just the names of the two franchises with an X between them. :/

Please understand, I'm not trying to shoot this down or be overly negative or anything.  And I'm not trying to say that it's not legit.  I'm questioning whether or not this is going to be available for sale at the convention.
I'm trying to wrap my head around why Mattel would sit on an MH con exclusive (and an MH/MoTU crossover at that) and give no indication whatsoever that something like this would be available for sale.  It's just odd is all.
Oh no, i completely understand! I didn't think you or anyone else was trying to shoot it down, I hoep I didn't come off as overly defensive :D. I'm just excited like I said...Maybe it is a one-off, but who knows, neat any way you look at it, this is the most excited i have been for MH in awhile too!...

I tried to include more "?"s like I said but have run out of room for the title...I'll keep editing the first post accordingly of course :D

Oh interesting...I wish they would clarify then...I dunno I guess more time will tell us whats goign on

I think it looks more like a OOAK doll made as a tribute to MOTU, but I'd be happy to be proved wrong! Though other than the headdress, the outfit seems a bit too simple for a SDCC exclusive...
Well the original design for Evil lyn herself is actually relatively simple, but I can understand not knowing teh character as well would  make it seem that way...

As far as it being SDCC for sure...I dunno, Details are still comig through...I'm actively editing the first post, bbut also pretty excited so, who knows :D

Not sure but the little tag that has MH  x MOTU I think validates it...details are still coming through though, but this was from a trusted friend via preview night :D

EDIT: Maybe not for SDCC itself but later for some other event? I changed the title as a "?" but not much room left for editing in teh title

** According to a post on Garrett Sanders' Instagram account:  This doll is on display at Mattel's SDCC booth and is up for a fan vote.  They are asking for images of the doll to be reposted using the hashtags #monsterhighxmotu and #tellmattel.  If the image receives enough reposts, supposedly Mattel will be producing the doll for reals!

(Noted added by SaelaVe.)

EDIT: Possibly just some in house artwork or custom, but still awaiting mroe details...

I can't believe it but there's going to be an SDCC exclusive for MH this year apparently???, Cleo De Nile(?) as Evil Lyn from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe!!!! Check her out!

EDIT: COULD be an exclusive for some other event other than SDCC, details are still coming through, Mods please free free to edit accordingly of course :D

EDIT: Got one now, no need for thread any longer

Looking for Sirena Von Boo, she doesn't need to be complete, but I would prefer her hair to have its original style...My Sirena's right arm broke recently and I just need to replace the doll...will consider mussed hair for the right price but would prefer an intact doll...thanks!!!
