The Monster High toyline might be dormant at the moment, but it seems some more books are in the pipeline, and they suggest some interesting things for the franchise.

First off, Amazon has a listing for 'Monster High: SS18 Entertainment Deluxe Junior Novel', which is described as 'Based on the latest Monster High entertainment, which now airs on YouTube'.

Could this mean that we're getting a new Monster High special in the summer? Maybe a new season of The Ghoul Squad?

Next, there's a third book in the Little Sisters Stories line, which focuses on Frankie and Alivia.

Here's the rather adorable cover art.

What's interesting is that Frankie and Alivia are both wearing outfits which are very different from their usual clothes. In the cover art for the previous Little Sisters books, Draculaura and Clawdeen were seen wearing their standard G2 outfits.

Could this mean Frankie will be getting a doll with this new outfit? And maybe the other main ghouls as well? It's a little unlikely, given the current state of the franchise, but who knows, maybe Mattel are planning some kind of revival or renewal of Monster High we don't know about.

It's something to speculate about at least, and hey, new books!

Why didn't Mattel make a Raythe doll? As far as I know, he was pretty positively received by the fandom. It would have been easy to make a doll of him for G2, maybe in a two pack with Clawdeen since they were implied to have a thing for each other.

I think Monster High is definitely going to come back at some point in the future. It's one of the most successful brands Mattel has ever had, and the monster theme is something which will always be popular and profitable to some degree.

But I think they definitely need to come up with a new way to sell the dolls and make sure it's successful. Obviously not repeating the mistakes they made with G2 and doing more of what made G1 so popular, (Better quality dolls, stronger character and story development, more tie-in media such as cartoons) but there needs to be more. The toy market has changed a lot since 2010 and peoples interests and buying habits have changed, and Mattel need to realize that, lest they end up going the way of Toys R Us.

One big change I hope we see if MH comes back is a better online presence. Lets face it, more people than ever are buying their toys online these days, and toys that interact or tie into online games/apps are still pretty popular. The MH website was always a bit back and forth with its updates. You either got some pose with some lore that tied in to whatever new line was out, or a new webisode. But in recent times the site was pretty bad at informing fans about what new dolls and toys were out, and the online store was pretty lame as well.  A beter website which is constantly updated, keeps fans hooked with new lore and story content which gets them interested in buying the dolls, and maybe a game or app which actually requires the dolls to be able to play (something like this would be a great way to get people involved in the toys again.

Here's part 2, and we get to meet Alivia. She's adorable.

Monster Discussion / New dolls! Rainy Day dolls
« on: January 19, 2018, 09:52:07 AM »
It looks like Monster High might not be dead yet. A new line of basic dolls has been revealed in a Mattel catalog.

It's a Rainy Day line featuring Lagoona, Venus and Ari with rainboots, umbrellas and raincoats. It looks like they'll be unarticulated, but they come with some nice clothing items.

Not exactly new dolls, but it seems a five pack has emerged featuring the main Five Ghoulfriends in their reboot Signature looks.

Monster Discussion / New book series! Little Sisters Stories
« on: November 27, 2017, 10:08:58 AM »
I wasn't sure if we were gonna get any more Monster High books, but it looks like a new series is starting up in July next year. This new series focuses on the ghouls and their younger sisters.

I'm certainly happy to see the new sisters beyond Fangelica finally getting some character stuff and lore devoted to them. We've yet to see the kids get any significant story stuff, so I hope these books flesh them out more.

Also, the cover art is adorable.

Finally, some new dolls for 2018! First, we've got the Ballet line, which features Cleo, Draculaura, and for some bizarre reason, Moanica.

Next, a new, much improved version of the Ghouls to Bat Draculaura, and a new Ghoul to Wolf Clawdeen.

And some new Minis which come with their pets.

Is there anywhere online were we can watch the Howliday Special at all?

I wanna know is that girl with Frankie towards the end of the trailer Ghoulia??

It's Frankie's sister Alivia.

The Howliday Movie is airing on Nickelodeon next week!

So today Mattel put up a lyric video for the song Shooting Stars, which contains various scenes from the series... and several scenes we haven't seen yet, most likely from the Happy Howlidays Special. But most surprising is that we see Frankie's new sister Alivia, and she looks completely different from her doll.

Weren't there 14 episodes?

I think the last four questions are for the Happy Howlidays Ghouls feature length episode.

Now I think about it, I wonder if they'll release Happy Howlidays in parts, like they did with the last few Ever After High movies.

And here it is:

I really like this one. We got some actual drama and action, Frankie zapping things, and a funny sub-plot with Gil for once.

Overall, despite some flaws and a couple of duff episodes, I've really enjoyed the Ghoul Squad. I really hope we get a second season.

Here's a preview for Episode 10, which not only stars Treesa Thornwillow, but also features her sister Thorna. (Whose outfit looks WAAAAY better than the one Treesa got.)

I honestly think this is the best episode we've seen yet. It's a definite improvement over the previous one anyway. Loads of great gags, (I loved Catty's Jem rip-off outfits) Cleo hamming it up, and almost every character made an appearance.

Loved seeing Operetta and Rochelle! I'm digging Opertta's new look and I love Rochelle's outfit. Do you think we'll get signature dolls of them?

Operetta sounds like the same voice as G1 but Rochelle sounds different to me. Anyone know if they have the same voice actors?

Rochelle's now being voiced by Cassandra Morris, who also does the voices of Frankie and Venus.

I really liked this episode. Cleo being Spider-Man, Abbey being delightfully blunt as usual, and I really liked Cassandra Morris' take on Rochelle's voice. I actually think its better than Erin Fitzferald's Rochelle voice.

Monster Discussion / Re: Euna, the lost character

Parrotbeak has uncovered some storyboards from the Lost Movie, (Which would have been called Feary Tale had it released.) which gives us a bit of Euna's history with Draculaura.
