Off Topic / Re: Netflix She-Ra Animated Series
« on: September 16, 2018, 01:43:19 AM »
Yeah I've got to agree with the sentiment that many people have expressed here, don't change characters to fit some diversity quota, make new original ones (as that also has the underlying sentiment of 'characters that were always 'diverse' can't be successful').
If you want to change a preexisting series so much, maybe make a spinoff instead? She-Ra's daughter?
Also not fond of the 'Cal-Arts' style which has pretty much overtaken Western animation nowadays, shows used to be distinct and now they all have that same look to them- likely due to most animation studios hiring animators from the same pool of graduates year after year...
I always liked how mature She-Ra and her companions looked, as opposed to the 'young mid-20s to teen' look that many female leads have. Yes the original's goofy and corny as all heck, but that's what makes it so enjoyable!

Monster Discussion / Re: Which dolls seemed rare?
« on: September 16, 2018, 01:31:06 AM »
Australia was weird, because rarity was kind of the norm? And then random places would have heaps of dolls, or dolls that I didn't know had come to Australia. I know that I asked for people abroad to get me dolls that didn't make it here, sometimes in exchange for dolls we got much later.

I think the strangest thing was the fact that we got Haunted Rochelle and Spectra before everywhere else. I know I shipped a couple of Spectras out to people Stateside, because she took so long to come out there (and then had a slightly different face-up).

Yeah, this :P
Haunted Rochelle showed up en masse at The Reject Store and to this day Holt and Nefera are relatively common and inexpensive on the secondhand market.
What I'd consider rare would be the CAM single packs (first ones had a small distribution and I never saw the second series!) Maul Monsteristas, and Sweet Screams wave 2 which we also didn't get, grr!) :eesh:

Customs / Re: My custom dolls/OCs- Pg 14, Seth Ptolemy and Quill Talyntino

AH! Quill looks amazing! I love the different fabric textures you've used for her outfit and the moulded feather front/rooted back hair combo, it looks totally factory! Your work always inspires me :blush:
On a side note, given how simple her design is, to you reckon we would have gotten an officially-released Quill in the same manner as we got Gilda? Included in a multi-pack? Interesting to think about all that could have been (like those planned Monster Exchange ghouls, agh!)  :P

Customs / Re: Custom Monster High Shoes

Again, I'm in love with anything that carries on the G1 MH canon, in a sense, so these incredible factory-looking shoes are just like, WOW, to me, seriously!
Can't wait for the design contest either, now I'm even more excited! :D

Everyone is so creative!

I absolutely love the diversity of your characters @Crystal-Spooky and I'm in love with several of their names!

Aww thankyou so much! :blush: I'm so glad you like them!
I love creating characters and get pretty excited every time I find a new kind of cryptid or monster to interpret. I try to make their names sound as canon as possible too! :)
Your characters sound pretty fantastic too! A clown/gargoyle hybrid certainly isn't something I would have thought of!

Customs / Re: CAM Limb Swap Question
« on: April 01, 2018, 07:05:04 AM »
Thanks so much for the help guys! Neither of the pegs fit atm but the arm ones will once I sand them down :)
As Dinah's leg is skeletal up to the hip, I'm probably gonna wind up cutting and splicing the two limbs together with epoxy sculpt  ^^;

And she's done! Trying more closely to imitate the MH style...
Charlotte is the Daughter of An Ice Mummy, very shy and likes to collect dolls. She also has a crush on a certain Sparks brother...!

I like to make characters that could conceivably exist within the canon MH Universe as I wanna make factory-look dolls of them one day (as you can guess Kara Zor-El is my customising idol here  ^^;)
I also have like a billion characters as I like to make them when I'm bored or have art block...!
Here's the full list so far (spoilder'd for length)

Customs / CAM Limb Swap Question
« on: March 27, 2018, 08:14:11 PM »
Hey so I'm attempting to turn a CAM Gorgon Ghoul into one of my characters, who has skeletal limbs from the elbow/knee down and I was wondering if anyone has ever figured out how to make regular MH limbs work with the CAM joints or vice-versa? Shaving down or otherwise modifying the peg attachment?
I'd use the CAM Skeleton ghoul but she's way too rare and expensive to customise so my only option is using Skelita's limbs - anyone ever done this before?  ^^;

If you want to see what I'm aiming to achieve here's the character artwork ;)
If anyone has any ideas how to make her hat I'd love to know as well!

I'm going to Smyths tomorrow to get a Funko POP! Flocked Funtime Foxy, I can look for you? I'm in the UK!

EDIT: They have some of the ones you're looking for, ghoulfriend, online at least! https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/fashion-and-dolls/c/SM060104?q=%3AukBestsellerRating%3Abrand%3AProject+Mc2%C2%A0&text=

Thankyou very much! Yikes, the ones on the Smyths site are expensive though, $43 AUD! I guess I'll have to keep watching to see if they ever go on sale, haha, so you won't have to bother looking for me as I assume they'll be the same price instore  ^^;

These dolls are so beautiful  :freak:
I've seen the blue dress girl at my Walmart for awhile. Should go on sale soon. Also if you have adreinne's gummies maybe we can swap?

That sounds great, thankyou for looking out for me, haha! Sadly Adrienne's Gummies is a part of the formal wave (wave 3 I think) so it never got released here so I don't think I'll be able to swap :cry:

Wanted / Looking for Project Mc2 Dolls...
« on: November 13, 2017, 01:20:53 PM »
(x-posted on the MLP Arena)
Hey, so uh, this might be a stretch but I'm looking for Project Mc2 dolls  :P
Here in Australia we only got the first 1 1/2 waves before retailers decided to no longer stock them, and I'm just drooling over the new masquerade line...  :blush:
If someone in the US could help me find them that would be great, as they're ridiculously overpriced online and the Aussie dollar is pretty weak atm. I'm primarily looking for these two (Ember being my #1 priority, she's gorgeous!) ;

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Although if you can find these guys for cheaper than retail price (like on sale) I'd be interested too;

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I don't mind if they're second-hand, as long as they're not in terrible shape and have all their outfit pieces, and I don't mind whether they have their experiments/combs or not, it's just the dolls I'm after, haha.
I don't currently have the funds, but I will soon, as my birthday /christmas is in a month and everyone gives me money as they have no idea how to pick out dolls for me  ^.^

Thanks for reading! :love:

Ever After High Discussion / Re: Stuff you'll miss about Ever After High
« on: October 31, 2017, 11:24:01 PM »
I'll miss the subverted expectations. When I first saw Darling's doll, I instantly dismissed her as a stereotypical marketing ploy "focus group" doll that was pandering to the consumer by hitting every item on the "pretty" checklist. Then I found out who she really was and that even her dress was armor, and now I adore her. Dragon Games Darling is one of my favorite dolls.

I'm going to miss the fact that because the main characters are princesses and fairytale characters, Mattel was bending over backwards to prove that they were "more than looks". They really did everything they could to stomp on every single stereotype and expectation about the girls being pretty princess damsels, and that was great because that made it "ok" for certain people who like fashion dolls but don't want to perpetuate... you know, the stuff that used to go along with it.

I'm really sad that we never got to see the ridiculously named Mattressina Peaprincess doll or character. I would have bought her just for the name. People laughed at her when we saw the trademark, but if we knew what was in store for EAH, I think we would have embraced her with open arms.

I wish we'd have gotten a Sparrow doll. I'm going to miss him. He was so funny.

Mattressina was an April Fools Day prank and not a real trademark from memory, so we wouldn't have gotten her either way :cry:

Wow, thanks for the kind words!  If you need any advice working on your own customs, please let me know!  I love all the talented customizers on this board!

No problem - thankyou so much for the offer!  :blush:
I'm not quite at the stage of creating my customs just yet, super nervous about trying a repaint, but I'll be sure to contact you when I make that plunge, haha  ^^;
Also Dracula looks AMAZING now, very regal like he should be, love it!
