Monster Discussion / Re: Cleo and Ghoulias friendship

I remembering reading a fan fic a while ago that had Cleo talking to her mother, where her mother didn't want her hanging around with a zombie. I think Cleo said something like, we're basically the same, only they're a little gooier.

I mean lets be honest, the people who ran Toys R Us into the ground, may now want to bring it back, isn't that pretty much what they are saying here?
Sell it off give someone else a chance to run it, they've already shown they couldn't.

That's pretty sweet, good job..  Just have to ask, "I also added a hairband with cat ears from Catty Noir that I made a long time ago."  You cut Catty's ears off to make the headband? lol

So in the US, you need to wait for NetFlix to play it (or find it online when it airs elsewhere).
I was wondering, where does everyone in the rest of the world catch it?

All this cool stuff will be available everywhere but in the USA I'll bet.

I bought these surprise eggs and got a full figure of Plagg.

They're cute!
And different from the ones I found D:

It is weird that they made an Adrien but not a Marionette... and that they're suction cups and not charms or keychains

I'd like to find those, but I don't even see them on Ebay (like the EAH ones) and I doubt they'll make their way up here.

I keep wondering if they will be putting out any other dolls. I ended up ordering the Queen Bee Doll from France so I could have her, and they have a Ladybug 2.0 and Rena Rouge doll pictured, but I don't see them available for order on Amazon in France or the UK. I did see a two pack with Ladybug 2.0 and Antibug though but I don't need another anti-bug.

So...What is with everyone’s obsession with She-ra’s boobs?

To say that she doesn't look feminine because she falls under a body type not usually seen for Western animated female characters kind of implies that there is only one female body type that is feminine, the full body hour-glass, and that just feels so limiting. As does the idea that if they don’t have a large chest they are suddenly a child. Boobs like people come in all sizes.

I grew up watching the old He-man and She-ra cartoons and personally I am happy to see She-ra looking like she can kick butt now and not just pose dramatically. (Watch the old shows, seriously, watch them, they are so bad and full of more dramatic posing then a runway show) I am greatly looking forward to this show and I am seriously hoping it doesn’t suck. She-ra not having large boobs and hips and looking like she’s 30 pretending to be 16 is literally the last thing I am concerned about.

No, that is not at all what people are implying!
It's just that men and women do have differenses in their physique and build, men usually have more boxy builds while women have more curves and softer builds. Of course there are overlapses but those are rarer.

The issue here is that they used a male build for She-ra. The technique they used to draw her is often used to illustrate boys.
There is a fault in the logic when you do this to a character whos essence is built on her gender. She is called She-Ra, she was supposed to appeal to girls, she is He-mans twin and female counter part.

It feels even wierder to have Adora, who is shown to be pretty curvy, transform into a male body and don the name She-ra. Its not even meant to go all the way like in Mahou shoujo ore. (A comedy anime about girls transforming into magical guys to fight muscle squirrels)

I have to argue that girls can kick butt and still look feminine. And Ill prove it!

This is my edit of their design.

This is my own redesign.

Fro whatever reason, the last time I was in here, the images didn't show up so I didn't see theses. You version of the reboots are adorable, and I really like your redesign, minus the horn on She-Ra's headdress/crown/mask thing.

So one thing that I have found interesting in the "debate" over the new She-ra cartoon, is that the people criticizing the people criticizing the show, are ignoring the women who are criticizing the show. I see people calling the guys "man babies" and far far worse, and yet the Women who are not happy with the reboot are being ignored. Seems a little sexist to me.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't like the new animation, it looks like something taken from Cartoon Network

Nope, I agree with you. Honestly It's even hard to figure out who the characters are supposed to be in a few cases. I needed someone to tell me the one picture had Glimmer and Bow in them.

Usually I'm pretty good about giving reboots a try, but I think this one is going to be an easy pass for me.

If you go on Garrett’s instagram, it sounds like its a custom?

So probably a one-off

Yeah you're right.  Especially the part about "share these hashtags to make it happen."

*Edit:  And if you go to @rebecula13's Instagram, she has a recent post (July 13th) where she appears to confirm that there is no MH exclusive this year:
Garret tagged her in the Cleo-Lyn photo, so it looks like that's her doll.
Oh ok, cool, wel thanks for the investigative work every one...Kinda a lil disappointing that they are being so vague with details imho!

I've edited the first post accordingly, if it needs to be moved all means :)

I think the Share the Hashtags they might mean are the ones to get the Catra Barbie doll produced to go with the She-Ra one from last year. I saw the prototype on a facebook post.   #tellmattel #wewantmoreSHERA

It was in the he-fans and she-ravers group. hopefully this link to the pic will work

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

OMG I didn't realize those were mouse ears at first and I thought they censored Belle popping out of her dress.

Oh man I saw the exact same thing but with Rapunzel! XD
Man I didn't even notice anything until it was pointed out. that's hilarious.

Monster Discussion / Re: Were these ever released?
« on: May 14, 2018, 07:45:20 AM »
I haven't seen any of them either. I don't think they were released.

Well, it was a noble effort, but TRU has rejected Larian's $890 million offer:

Apparently his offer didn't "meet the minimum threshold to be a valid bid".  Just how much do they owe?

I think Toys R Us was in the hole close to 5 billion but I could be wrong.

I'm not surprised they didn't take the bid. I think they still believe they'll get something out of the liquidation. It's why they finally increased some of the items to 15% off

I think the first sign for me, was the simplification of the dolls such as when they started to reduce Articulation, Producing mostly Mini Dresses, and shortening the hair.

I still remember the last K•B I was in. They were overrun with old, old stock and the prices were horrible until the last week they were open.

That's pretty much how I remember them too. I would occasionally find a hidden gem there, but not often.

So  I can't remember, does County Fabulous actually have a gender, or are we all assuming Fabulous is male because of the name?

That Collector Draculaura was so different and beautiful, I always thought it was a shame she was never properly followed up on.  Maybe if they rolled 'Collectors' Monster High dolls into their collector Barbie line, offering one character a year or maybe quarterly in that style...That would be so cool!

I would love to have seen them do more dolls in this style. I did by the Skeleta, but she didn't get the same kind of love Draculaura did. I may be in the minority here, but I really didn't care for the Abby they did, but again, it doesn't seem to be the same kind of attention given to the Collectors Draculaura doll.

Not to be nit picky, but I don't believe it's a sub-license because Hasbro Owns My little pony, it's not a license like Star Wars, and Mattel owns Masters of the Universe. It would jut be licensing them.

I think we're probably going to have to wait a few years before we can hope for a rebirth of Monster High especially in something more like its original form.

I am just glad that more episodes were released in English. I like this series, but what happened to the NetFlix release, was it cancelled altogether?

Okay, first thing, I do agree that the best that can be done at this point is guesswork.

That being said.

I am going to go into the minority, but I simply cannot agree with "pure coincidence".
I mean, come on. Sure, the names are obvious puns and could be coincidence.
Why this selection of monsters for main characters, then? Why make frankenstein best friends with a werewolf? I mean, my obvious choice would be a vampire and a werewolf, which Mattel did, but why the frankenstein? It's not really a "common" monster by all means, it's just one character from a book often featured in movie spin offs. So why not Ctulhu, or Godzilla?
Moreover, the name of the monster is actually not Frankenstein. The monster did not have a name, Frankenstein was the name of the guy who created the monster.  As far as I know, while being a rather common mistake, it was not reflected in movies either.. (this could, again, be a coincidence, of course).
Why black hair with white streaks, by the way? Not like the monster had hair like that...

Ok let's go on. Why a random sea monster. Why not a mermaid? Why a non-specific monster like Lagoona? It's not like there is a set design for sea monsters, yet I see very similar ears.

Cleopatra would not come to my mind as a mummy monster - probably Nefertiti (Nefertari) would, since her mummy was found together with her bust. Also, she does not like a mummy, does she. She looks like a human with egyptian-like hairstyle (though in Mattel MH she did wear mummy-like clothes and after the reboot she got bandages).

And a smart girl with Ghoulia's glasses.

Now my point is - all of these could be a coincidence. But all of them together as a coincidence just seem SO unlikely I just cannot believe that.
Also, the fact that this comics was not known and doesn't pop up in google search or anywhere actually suggests that Mattel could have taken some inspiration there. No big company would risk adapting something that was known as the public backlash could damage it.

Again, though, nothing can be done about it now and I LOVE Mattel's MH. Just wanted to say this, though.

The original Monster Girls chosen were all related to the old Universal monster movies.
The Werewolf
The Mummy
The creature from the Black Lagoon.

We had some crossovers as well in these....  Here's a wiki list. You could probably find most of the Monster High early characters relating to a number of these movies...
