Off Topic / Re: Fandom/SDCC Doll Swap?
« on: April 01, 2018, 07:06:16 PM »
do you think i can have more information? A question i have is do you mean like a custom doll for SDCC? since it's comic book based, do you to customize a doll?

If there are multiple people interested, I'd like to have it open to both customizers and non-customizers. My thought was if there are a few people interested that when you sign up you can say if you are interested in getting and giving store bought, custom pieces or either/mix.  This way people of all skill levels can participate.

Take myself for example, I can make clothing and some props/accessories, but I couldn't do a faceup to save my life. If I offered mix then I could say make some geeky doll clothing for my recipient but also pick up a few cute, small items for them as well, and then a doll off their wishlist.

Is there any desire to do a fandom/geeky based doll swap? I was thinking it would be fun to do it around the time of San Diego Comic Con. I'm interested in either doing just a two person swap or organizing a small group one. Since it wouldn't be an official MHArena one it would be open to Monster High, Ever After High, DC Super Hero Girls, Descendants, Equestria Girls, and Barbie.

This post is to check interest and brainstorm.

Not surprised.  It doesn't off the sorts of deals that Walmart and Target does and it doesn't offer a unique experience like other smaller toy stores do.  For the random family there is little incentive to shop there when you can get a better deal or have more fun someplace else.

the 18inch DCSHG dolls are on sale for $19.99 (online at least)

In store as well, though mine had no signs indicating the lower price they rang up at $19.99 at the register.

The Hot Toys Age of Ultron Scarlet Witch and the Five Star TV-Show Supergirl dolls were recently purchased and added to my collection.  I also have the CGL Quicksilver doll on preorder.

A single SDCC exclusive starring a Royal.

Kinda funny how bows and arrows are sold as "girls weapons" as if they would be less deadly or brutal than a sword...
And its like even weirder that the corporations push snow guns and bow weapons as toys, when kids get heavily punished in schools just for eating a cracker into a shape that mildly resembles a gun.

The bows as "girls weapons" wasn't even a thing until Hunger Games.

The trope dates back to the 60s.

Funny story about the t-shirt from my dad.  He really wanted the Junior Mints.  I told him he couldn't have them because it was a swap and only people who swapped could eat the Junior Mints.  I was teasing him at this point and I was going to just give them to him.  Well, he comes home from his shift and had gotten you a t-shirt from the station so that he would have technically swapped with you.

You are overloaded on amazing dolls!  Great haul!

I finally watched the movie and I have to say that I loved it.

This was definitely a reboot.

For the first time since I've tried Monster High I found Draculaura to be likable.  I might actually even get a doll of her now.  Frankie being techy made sense when you think about her occasional mad scientist tendencies in G1 Monster High.  I don't think it will take away from Ghoulia to have another smart girl character.

I've never liked the use of the term "normie" in Monster High as it reminded me too much of real world slurs.  Other than Frankie using it once when meeting Draculaura there was a clear divide between the good guys using "human" and Moanica using "normie".  I appreciated that a lot.

Dracula and WolfMom were adorable.

The stakes felt more real and more emotional than in many of the other movies. Moanica had a real goal and it was one that would feel familiar to viewers.

As long as the G2 universe doesn't make the mistake of monsterfying every single city, country, and landmark like the old one did I will actually be able to believe it's message of living together and that monsters are in hiding.  If they go back and show the Great Fright Flight I'd like to see both humans and monsters equally in the wrong.  Don't get me wrong, there was nothing with a monster world in and of itself, but it completely changes Ghoul's Rule and the some of the early episodes.

I imagine that the future episodes and specials will slowly reintroduce many of the old characters without recounting their old intros blow by blow.

It is sad that your friend is no longer into Monster High, but I'm sure you guys still have lots of other things in common.  One of the best ways I've found to meet other fans is to go to anime and comic book conventions.  I've found that even if people don't share your interest that they at least accept it.

Brags / Private Swap with Robina
« on: October 28, 2016, 07:41:08 PM »
Robina and I decided to do a private doll swap.  In between when we agreed to it and now I've had a rough couple of weeks.  Receiving the box from her is one of the few good things to happen this week.

That little cutie with the box is d'Eon my cat.  He's named after a French knight from the 1700s.

First there was a wooden box with the one and only Sailor Moon.  A sticker on the inside reveals it was done by Myrcury.

And what does Sailor Moon love?

First doll unwrapped and it is Musketeer Rochelle Goyle!  I've always wanted my very own Rochelle as a musketeer doll.  This is basically my dream Monster High doll and it's in my hands!

I got a little excited and forgot to take a picture after the second doll.  So here is Rochelle with the second and third doll together.  I got ANOTHER custom.  Apple White, one of my favorite Ever After High characters, dressed as Snegurochka, my favorite fairy tale character.  The third doll is the magician Frankie Stein doll!  This is one of my favorite Frankie dolls to boot!

They are joined by Queen Chrysalis in her beautiful human form.  I don't think she likes the height difference.

Darling Charming joins the party!  Her dragon games doll is such a beauty!

I couldn't help myself.  I had to do a shippy picture with lady and knight.

Yes, Rochelle is one of my favorite characters!  Now I have her vinyl!

I adore Halloween and kitty cats!  This is... purrfect.

What's this?  My custom dolls get CUSTOM STANDS!?  Are you trying to spoil me?  And Rochelle gets a hat and earrings too!

According to the card the clothing was by QueenofKawaii and the shoes and stands are by Myrcury.  I think they did amazing work

Thank you so much for this Robina.  This really brightened things up for me in these bleak times.

I was browsing the gaming news websites when I found some info for an upcoming dating sim called Monster Prom.  You play as a male or female monster in a monster highschool with three weeks to go until prom.  Your romance choices are a gorgon, mermaid, ghost, werewolf, vampire, or demon.

I just had a feeling that a video game about monsters in highschool might be relevant to the interests of this forum.

I honestly like the detail work we are getting for the molded tights.  I don't think they could get details that elaborate and consistent with traditional tights.
Same tbh, PPT apple is really winning me over, as are archery rosabella's cute glasses.

I think with a little paint the molded tights would really look fantastic.

-Before Ever After High and the Storybook of Legends the stories still repeated, but it would be random people pulled into the roles.  Many of the violent, bloody versions of stories are these early ones where the individuals were unprepared and often didn't know each other.  Certain families agreed that they and their descendants would take over the recurring stories so that regular people could live their lives in peace.  In exchange for sacrificing freedom they became rulers/famous/celebrities.  The Storybook of Legends was to make sure that the next person in the family got "first dibs" on the role before the world would force someone else into it.  The purpose of the school was to prepare everyone for their roles and by having everyone know each other there would be less of a loss of life.  As a result the cleaner versions of fairy tales started happening more often.

-The Scheherazade role is both a destiny and a narrator

-Everyone is expecting forever after loves because that is what the stories had.  People that rebel against their story are going to face more break ups and such.  This isn't because either story love or chosen love are more real, it is because the stories demanded a couple stay together regardless of how they felt.  While couples outside of stories are free to breakup or stay together as they choose.  At least one of the high school couples will have a break up and incorrectly blame the fact that it wasn't their destined love.

So are they still using the term "normie" for humans?

Thanks for the answer.  I was hoping they'd finally get rid of it.  It always sounded like a slur to me.  It always hit me as kind of backwards in a series about celebrating differences and accepting each other.

I don't know if there will be an official one, but you can always do a private swap between yourself and another member.  I've done a couple private ones on the forum and they are really fun.
