Title: MH presence at Toy Fair 2019?
Post by: RochelleGoyleFanatic on February 25, 2019, 07:42:09 AM
Granted there were no dolls, but the Mattel hasn't totally given up on them yet. This does give me a glimmer of hope if it comes to fruition.

Actually now that you mention it there's no way Mattel hired the guy from the Disney Channel, set up 22 TV or possible web expansions of IP and not even one was a Monster High related thing.

I saw the big mural, but considering they didn't show any Enchantimals things either and I feel like that line is on it's way out they might have just been trying to beef the image up so it didn't look bare.

I wish I could share that glimmer of hope but I really doubt it will happen. Hopefully, Mattel will prove me wrong.

Dang, so that's it for this year? No Enchantimals even? :( Toy Fair was pretty disappointing this year.

It was pretty much expected that they would offer nothing at all for either the main line or the spin-offs.

I dunno if I would call it disappointing. Mattel maybe but there was lots of other stuff coming out from other companies.

-shrug- I wasn't able to find much this year. Glad it wasn't disappointing for you, though.

I agree.  I'm excited about some of the new Fashionistas, but nothing else wowed me, not just Mattel either.  The new Descendants dolls were also really lackluster and I just can't get into many of the new doll lines.  I was super-excited about the Wreck It Ralph Disney princesses, but I'm not sure I'm $200 worth excited.  :hmm:

For $200 I can buy a couple, maybe more, collectible Barbies and/or SDCC MH dolls I'm missing, so...yeah.

They are going to have $30 2 packs of the Comfy Princesses so you don't need to pop $200 if there's only a few that you really need.

I'll admit most of the stuff I'm excited about isn't fashion dolls. Before MH I collected MLP and LPS and SSC and similar stuff and I still do to this day. There were a lot of cute animal figures and small dolls. The Hairdorables have a lot of cute things coming up and the Candylocks dolls look really cute too.

True, but you know they will split up the ones I really want, and then I'll be like,"Why don't I just get them all?"  :freak:

Oh yes, I forgot about the new LPS stuff.  From what I could tell it looks like an improvement over the current offerings. I don't collect MLP, but there always seems to be new stuff coming out, so that's cool.  I like Hairdorables and the Candylocks do look cute, but I just cannot start a new doll line unless it's something I LOVE.  I already spend way too much on all the other dollies I collect.

I do think I'm going to have to collect the mini Disney princesses in comic book form though.  I need that Ursula. :inlove:

(Sorry for the visible "quote" in the message above--user error! lol)

Hasn't monster high been dead?

MH started to die when the atrocious reboot begun. Now, it's dead and decomposing.

I find it peculiar how the article seems to imply that Mattel is trying to develop television pilots? And Monster high is apparently in one of the 22 slots??

If MH DOES get picked up... we might see a resurgence?? Cause I noticed on their youtube channel, which is active, their reuploading a lot of the old g1 content, even the ones they removed. Hmmm? I wonder if they're trying to revive?

I feel very sure that they're going to reboot MH someday, considering how lucrative it once was. How long it will take is a mystery though.

I'm sure they'll reboot it; nothing seems to stay dead these days, as long as it was at least moderately successful. I'd be surprised if they brought it back so quickly, though :o But who knows.

I completely agree with this.  I would be shocked if MH never got a reboot.  It was far too profitable in its heyday for Mattel to not try and capitalize off of that again at some point.
However, I would be equally shocked if they attempted to reboot it so soon.  It hasn't been dead long enough to give Mattel the indication that their core demographic is ready for more already.

I feel like any MH reboot might have a stronger focus on blind bag style collectables, considering how popular those are these days (especially those LOL Surprise dolls)

But yeah, I don't expect MH to be revived anytime soon, probably it will be revived when girls find paranormal stuff "cool" again like they did when the first series came out.

Girls? It appealed to all genders. Tons of boys/men were/still are crazy about the MH dolls. That said, people never stopped finding paranormal stuff cool. It's just that the reboot seriously damaged the brand. Which was already seriously damaged after Garrett Sanders left Mattel. Afterward, the brand just got worse and worse, leading to its demise.

People might still find them cool but they aren't trending. Vampires and such were trending thanks to things like Twilight and Vampire Diaries. Now it's mostly unicorns and mermaids that are trending. Monster High was already starting to lag before the reboot. That's why they rebooted it because they hoped it would stop the slump but instead it just accelerated it.

Vampires and "such" were trending long before Twilight and Vampire Diaries and they still are. They always will be. Their popularity level is largely debatable. MH was not lagging before the reboot. And they did not reboot it for the reasons you mentioned but because they wanted to appease the mass of hysterical moms who were opposing MH because they considered the ghouls to be too freaky, too edgy and too sexy for kids and the moms in question also wanted the ghouls to look friendlier and less "monster-ish".

I agree. As sad as it is they should have just left MH alone and not do the reboot.  I've never seen MH die so quickly it was a disgrace.  The excuse that they were trying to make a more kid-friendly MH was just ridiculous, kids were into MH when it first came out and they weren't scary.

I mean, couldn't they just, not buy things they don't like/want their kids to have?

I never protested Barbie for being too boring and human for my tastes, I just never bought any Barbie dolls. :P

There were talking about the decline in investor presentations before the reboot happened. Yes they were trying to appease moms with the reboot but it was because sales started to lag.

That's what the problem was. They weren't buying them. Mattel is in the business to make money.
