Customs / SilkSpun reroots
« on: August 03, 2013, 09:17:00 PM »
Yay, I finally have some MH reroots finished to show off! ^.^

Operetta's done with brushed-and-straightened acrylic microfiber yarn, she sure took me a while. :dazed: I'll have her repainted soon, too!

Ghoulia's done with the same technique (brushed microfiber acrylic yarn), just not straightened - it makes the final result a lot like mohair, only it's vegan, yay! She'll be repainted soon, too, I want to go for a Victorian-esque zombie theme for her.

If you like those I AM open for microfiber reroot commissions! Basic straight styles (like operetta) are $65, and faux-mohair (like ghoulia) are $60. I can do regular or CAM heads, in most any color or color combo. I've got info on MLP reroot commissions here, too. Please note me if you're interested in anything! <3

Customs / What are you working on? Community WIP post & chat!

I thought it would be fun to start a thread where everyone could talk about whatever they're working on, in whatever stage of the process. Kind of nice for when you don't quite feel like a WIP step is momentous enough to make a new thread, lol.

To start things off, here's my first MH rehair I've been working on...

She's rerooted with brushed-and-straightened microfiber acrylic yarn, which takes FOREVER... I've been working on her for hours and hours for three days straight. :whoa: She's really close to being done though, and then I can glue in her hair and brush out that frizz!

So, what are you working on? ^.^ Feel free to brainstorm, ask for help, or discuss ideas, too!

I bought a Dance Class Lagoona recently, and wound up really disappointed with the rooting on her hair... They filled in her front hairline and part okay, but the entire rest of her head is like THIS:

I was mega disappointed when I deboxed her, because she's the first MH doll I've bought to just keep for myself AS A DOLL, not for custom work... :eesh:

I'd like to take a matching color of blonde dollyhair and fill in her bald spots with a reroot tool, but I've never done reroot work on a doll that already has hair and glue in place. I'm worried about not being able to glue the new plugs in properly if there's already dried glue blocking their path...

So, should I do a partial rooting like I'd planned, or is it better to fully reroot her entire head? Any help or experience is really appreciated!

Introductions! / Hello everyone! New customizer about. :D

Hi there! I'm Silky or Mumbles/Mimblex or Miles (or SilkSpindle on the MLP arena... too many online nicknames, haha!). Decided to join the forum after gaining some interest in MH customs, since I've been doing MLP customs and rehairs for a while... some of which you can see on my Flickr here. c:

I'm 24 and currently living in Redmond, WA (close to Seattle). I've been really into other custom dolls in the past, including BJDs, Blythe, and Bratz (waaaay back when, like early high school... My first custom toys, they were awful, lol)

I don't have any MH dolls yet, but I'd like to get some from users here as customization bait! I can't wait to do some rehairs!
