Awww!  So cute! <3

Personally, I would cancel the sale and find a new buyer for the doll.
I generally give prospective buyers 14 days to get back to me and make payment, and then I relist the item or offer it to another buyer.  A month and a half is more than enough time.
Either something came up in the member's personal life which is preventing them from being active here, or they've simply chosen not to be active here any longer.  But either way that's not a reliable sale for you.

Isn't it amazing what childhood perspective can do? I felt the same way about some of the things I liked at that age, but when I mention them to friends, they blank. I know so many people who didn't know She-Ra, but know He-Man vaguely. Or people who didn't know Lady Lovely Locks at all, when that seemed like a massive phenomenon to me (my friend had all the dolls, I was crazy jealous).

Absolutely!
It's like Cherry Merry Muffin dolls.  I was obsessed with those as a kid!  And I would've sworn that everyone was as obsessed with them as I was.  But nope.  Turns out they were only produced for two years.  Evidently next to no one was obsessed with Cherry Merry Muffin. XD

I was!  Also Rose-Petal Place.  They released 6 dolls (and a villain) along with the first movie.  They made 6 more prototypes to go with the second movie but the line was scrapped.

I never had any of the Jem dolls, but I do remember (to me at least) the series being very popular.

Barbie has been Queen for as long as I can remember.

Yes, another Cherry Merry Muffin fan! :D
Man I wish I still had those dolls.

My partner is a beautiful human being. He knew I was hoping to get a MiniFee when the sewing machine carked it, so he told me he'd pay for a body and other pieces, in order to get the current event head. ;__;

I am a spoilt woman, and when he told me he wanted me to order the doll, I was just crushed by sentiment.

That is incredibly sweet! <3
Congrats! :D

Documents released later speak otherwise. Even if they were selling it wasn't enough so they pulled the plug after the second year. Jem was more expensive since they had those light up earrings and were a weird size that couldn't share clothes with other fashion dolls. Hasbro had expectations for Jem that they obviously failed to meet, especially after Mattel released their own rock star themed line. Modest sales from a small but dedicated fanbase are unfortunately not what keeps a brand alive. EAH never made the kind of numbers MH did in it's prime so Mattel decided it wasn't worth it to continue.

Yeah I know all about Barbie and the Rockers and how Mattel released the line simply to squash Jem.  I just thought that Jem was pretty popular in its day.  I mean I was under the impression that the whole reason that Mattel felt threatened enough to create BatR was because Jem looked poised to steal sales from them.

And I don't think that anyone was arguing that a small dedicated fanbase can keep a brand alive.  In fact it's been regularly stated here that it absolutely cannot, as is evident by the failure of both EAH and MH despite the loyal adult fanbase.  When the kiddos lose interest that's basically it.
I wasn't talking about Jem now.  I know that Jem isn't big now.  I meant that when I was a kid it seemed like the line was quite popular.  At least to me.  So because I, as a child, perceived it as being very popular at the time, I continued to carry that perception even into adulthood (that in its heyday Jem was popular).
Even the attempted Jem film a few years ago seemed to indicate that the line was popular enough at one time for Hasbro to try and make some dough off of it again.
Now granted, a reboot or revival doesn't always indicate that a franchise was once a top seller.  But generally studios and manufacturers are not going to try and bring back something that was a commercial failure the first time around.

Please understand, I'm not arguing that Jem was a popular or selling well in its day.  I'm just saying that as a kid I thought that it was.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

So adorable! Love that sushi roll! Did the red bowl and glass of lemonade come in your set? What other sets did you get?

Thank you. ^.^

The glass of lemonade is from a Lori Doll set, but the red bowl did come with one of the Re-Ment sets that I got.
The display on the table shows bits from each of the three Gudetama Breakfast boxes that I picked up.  The little yellow spouted container is from the Egg Over Rice set.  The sunny-side-up eggs, sausage, and lettuce is from the Sausage & Egg Plate set.  And the red bowl, miso (you can't see the soup in the bowl due to the angle, but Gudetama is sitting in miso), large white plate, onigiri, and bits of green veggies came with the Rice Ball & Miso Soup set.

I also picked up two Gudetama Meets More Danger sets, but they were both far too big for my Cu-Poche girls, so I traded them to my daughter for some of her duplicate miWorld accessories.

I bought my first Re-Ment sets earlier this week and I love them so much!! :squee:

I've wanted Re-Ments for ages, but they cost so damn much here.  I just can't justify ten bucks a box. :(
But this week Hot Topic was having a buy-two-get-three-free sale on all clearance items.  I ended up getting five boxes for just $3 a piece!  I could not say no at those prices. <3

So long story short: Yukari got herself a pretty sweet Gudetama meal out of this deal. :P

I am pretty certain now that MH is done in stores.  The Walmart store and Target stores in my state have completely gotten rid of MH as a category in the toy section.  The only place I can find MH in stores are places like The Toy Vault, which is great they will have MIB G1 dolls and you never know you might get lucky and find that one you've always wanted.

I mean unless you go to Savers, or Salvation Army you might find some dolls too but it's sad but MH I think is officially done.  I didn't want it to do go down like this at all.  As a fan from very near the beginning of G1 I was hoping when we heard news of it ending that would be it.  I could sort of get the reboot but to have MH go down so fast and to be non-existent for the mere fact that people lost interest is an insult to the brand.  I feel like Mattel should have just ended MH when G1 ended.  Let the stores run out of stock completely, because people wanted them and bought them.

I'm sorry if I'm a downer or a dark cloud but I can't help how I feel at this point.

Our Target still has them.  They're just a paltry shadow of their former self with only like five budgety dolls and some minis with pets on the shelf.

Day 283

Time for another migraine shot! Yaaaay! ...Wait ...That's not it... Nevermind.
Anyhoo... Mint hair - check! Purple eyes - check! Ruffles and ribbons - check! Plush bunny friend - check! These two dolls have more in common than I thought...

lol  Awww, I'm so sorry, neon.  Migraines are the worse.

Wow!  I don't think that I would've ever noticed the similarities between those two dolls were it not for that shot. :dropjaw:

When they couldn't even released a cheap Getting Fairest and reused fabric (Farrah only has two dolls and you're doing that...), you know they mismanaged this property.

It's still a prettier Farrah than her sig.

Honestly the whole EAH situation reminds me a lot of what I've read happened with Jem back in the 80s. Like Jem, EAH was pricier than what else was currently on the market and failed to catch on. Like Jem, EAH had a well written animated series that was probably more popular than the actual dolls. And, like Jem, EAH was stymied by efforts from their main competitor using well known characters, in this case ironically Hasbro with Disney Descendants.

I wonder if like 20 years later Mattel will put out some collector dolls (Since Mattel does their own collector dolls unlike Hasbro who refuses to tap that market so they had Integrity do them instead) to cash in on the nostalgia and also try to release a really bad live action movie that has little to do with the original premise. Well at least one thing I hope for is that with all the talented customizers in the community we will at least see the prototypes come to life sooner rather than later.

I wasn't around then, I always had the impression that Jem was fairly popular! But this is a time where Nostalgia is Cool so ... wow.

No I'm with you.  And I was around then.
I was a huge Jem fan as a kid.  Had several dolls, watched the cartoon.  I always believed that it was big in its day.  It sure seemed that way.

Official full trailer is out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsGMkAWB6lY

Aaaaaaaaand I'm out. lol
I was cautiously optimistic when the first stills were released, but this trailer completely lost me.  It looks too far removed from the original series, tonally all over the place, and just generally unappealing.

Customs / Re: Hard Head Dolls

I'd recommend either a hot water bottle or electric blanket, so that way you wouldn't have to keep dunking the head in water and then drying the doll off while re-rooting

One would need to use a plastic bag with the hot water technique.
If you're using the tool method for re-rooting then you really can't get the doll's head wet during the process.  You run a serious risk of the hair pulling right back out of the doll's head as you try to dry it off.

I'm down to only one character now (Skelita), but I have five of her.
I guess she's your favorite character, eh? Cool! I always felt Skelita was underappreciated and underestimated by the MH fanbase.

I don't know.  It always seemed to me like the fans really took to Skelita but that Mattel severely underutilized her. :(

But yes, she is my favorite ghoul.

Is garrett responsible for the new polly pockets line?

I don't believe so.  Unless he worked on them before leaving Mattel.

Anyways I wouldn't read into this as them reopening physical stores. They might pull a Circuit City and only exist online.

I kind of thought that, too.  The line about investing in "new retail operating businesses" seemed to me like they won't be returning in the exact same manner as before.
Maybe they'll turn into an online-only store, maybe they'll have physical stores but in far fewer locations than before, or maybe there won't be any stores at all.  Maybe they'll try to create TRU products of some sort.

The article just says that they're keeping and planning on reusing TRU's intellectual properties.  So, the names Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Geoffrey the Giraffe, etc..
They won't be reusing any of the old stores or distribution centers (unless they buy them back) because they sold all of those already.

And yeah.  Like Wardah said, the old TRU company is gone.  They completely liquidated and their lenders gained their IPs in the bankruptcy deal.  So the people who are now controlling TRU's assets are not the same people from before.
And that's what they have right now: the assets.  The rights to TRU's names.

I'm interested to see what they do with them.  Being that TRU is now under the control of business lenders, I think whatever they do will likely be a hell of a lot more financially sound than what TRU was doing before.

If they do shift to online only, I hope they hire proper developers for it. Their old sites were such a pain in the neck to deal with.

Completely agree.  I always hated shopping from their online store.

While I do love Harry Potter, I never really get merch except clothing related. They look really good though.
I hope they get stocked at like Hot Topic or Box Lunch or something. I've realized how tough it can be to get Nendoroids.
Nendoroids are pricey, so I have to be specific with the ones I get.
I only have Ariel right now.. But I have been eyeing getting some Haikyuu! and Idolish7 ones.

I just want Good Smile to do my Free! boys..

Sadly, GSC will never touch a KyoAni production again. :(

No one knows the details, but something went wrong during their production of the Free! Figmas a few years ago when the first season came out. They made Haruka and Makoto and that was it, and they haven't made a single product for KyoAni projects since. It's really baffling, because their K-On figures were crazy popular, and the Haruka and Makoto Figmas are impossible to find now, but they just don't do it for some reason.

It makes me super sad, because I'd totally love the Dragon Maid cast as Figmas or Nendos.

Also, for Nendos and other older figures, check out Mandarake. They're a large chain of secondhand stores in Japan, and I've had excellent experiences with them in the past. I've bought several figures over the years, and they were all in excellent condition (they carefully assess all intake items and list them according to box condition and item condition; I've gotten some brand new figures for great deals, because the boxes had dinged corners).

Oh no.  Why did you have to mention Mandarake?  I had completely forgotten about them, and now I'm on their site browsing... and I'm seeing fantastic things.  So many wondrous bargains on items that I've wanted for some time now but couldn't find elsewhere. :wow:

Thank you for posting the link, RenegadeAngel.

That Apple is adorable!
I both love and hate it when we get leaks of awesome products that will never be because their respective lines were canned.  The same thing happened after Disney Infinity was cancelled.
