Off Topic / Re: What were they thinking?! toy lines
« Last post by Esbayne on Today at 12:56:55 AM »
What annoys me about Beanie Boos is that they're just Ty trying to rip-off YooHoo and Friends -_- Heck, Aurora even sued them over it when the Beanie Boo line first came out. And now it seems like all the major plushie makers have their own YooHoo knockoff o.O I guess they're popular. Odd. I just wish there was a bit more variety out there, haha. YooHoos were fun *because* they were different, now it seems like every other plushie has those big ol' eyes.

(I admit some of the newer Beanie Boos are pretty cute, though. I prefer YooHoos in general, but still.)

When I was in elementary school, I was still living in Canada and my friends had this "special" club called the Big Eyed Stuffy Club. There were these stuffed animals out at the time (which I now know were produced by Russ and called Li'l Peepers, but we did not know as kids so we called them Big Eyed Stuffies) and you had to have one to be in the club. I always wanted one even before that, but as kids do for some reason, even more once my friends had this "exclusive" club. I got my first for Christmas and it was a pink hippo, many more followed suit and I had a small (and now gone :( ) collection of them, my fave was a bat.
This was in the very early 2000's, I'm unable to find a release date for them (I did a fair amount of searching to no avail) but I'm wondering if even Yoohoos were the first? If they still were, this has been going on for a lot longer than Beanie Boo's or any following plush lines, though. My first thought when I saw Beanie Boos was "Whoa hey TY is ripping off the Big Eyed Stuffies now??"
I have to admit I do adore a lot of the Beanie Boos, I have a small handful of cats and dragons from them. I think it may be because of the nostalgia with the Li'l Peepers, though, but they are quite adorable.

I guess a mix of paranoia and a guilt complex the size of the moon just makes me approach buying things weird. You're probably right though.

It will never be the same without Garrett. He has moved on so I believe I am too.

Day 172

Sure, I'll sign. But just remember that you'll always be able to find friends on this board. Also, if you look into the history of other dolls and toys, you'll see that there's always a chance for a resurgence of almost any toy or doll. You never know when some new person will walk into a toy company with a plan to revive a doll line. When it's Monster High's turn to be revived and the company actually puts effort into the dolls again (meaning stands, brushes, diaries, articulation, clever clothes, and unique, non-airhead faces) the sales will be huge and encouraging.
Shes got a point.
Sides.. I am all for letting MH and EAH take a bit of a break, mostly cus i got to lay my peepers on the prototypes for the new she-ra line.
I can totally let monster high have a breather and drool over those ladies for a while
I think mattel had a lil exhaustion on monster high, I mean the reboot was ok and all yo.
But they kind had run out of stories to tell.
Same thing with EAH running its course.
So i say .. let them take a break and a) recharge the MH and EAH batteries
b) give em time to come up with some cute new stories for both.
c) enjoy the ABSOTIVELY AWESOME new she-ra dolls we are getting.
d) come back to MH and EAH when the time is right.

Well I guess if you need a reason to other than just wanting them.
I admit ive cut back.. but mostly cus.. LIke with you.. ive not seen anything i liked.
But thats not a lack of justification.. its just a lack of seeing things you want.
If you hit a patch where nothing appeals to you thats normal.. maybe right now there's just nothing
on the market with your name on it.
It could change in time.
But as to Justification of getting something you love, specially when you have spare funds and all yer bills paid, there really is no need to "justify it" .
You love it, you want it.. thats all the reason you need.
I think when something else comes along that catches yer eye as much as MH and EHA did.. you will start loving them again.
Just dont let anyone tell you bad things about your collections or things you love.

Monster Discussion / When you struggle justify buying dolls

For awhile I've been really struggling justifying buying dolls. Like I have the money for them but I'm just like "but what if I get them and I don't like them as much as I thought I would?" and then when I'm finally committed to getting a doll the price has skyrocketed. I think the lack of MH or EAH in stores has really taken a hit to my doll collecting

but yeah, anyone else feeling this?
