Monster Discussion / Re: Boo York
« on: Yesterday at 07:08:12 AM »
From what I recall reading, especially from Garret Sanders, the line went through a few shakeups.  I know there was supposed to be a Catty and Pharaoh two pack, it would have been her city schemes outfit which was later put into the three pack with Operetta and Clawdeen when they cut the Pharaoh doll.

They also had originally planned for the three new ghouls to come with one outfit on (their gala outfits) and the extra (city outfit) in the box.  I believe that idea was also cut, though they were able to get the second outfits into the Walmart 3 pack.

As for Frankie, according to the Monster High wikia, she was originally supposed to have a plot with Lagoona, but it was cut.  I guess with her plot cut, she didn't become as big of a focus as the other characters, so she was passed on for a doll.  It was a huge line up as it was, and Frankie did little in the movie.  I know that's no argument, since they had released dolls for movies that had little to do with it anyway, but perhaps they had learned from that.  Or maybe she was going to get a doll, but it was cut due to the shakeups in the line.

Monster Discussion / Re: Which dolls seemed rare?
« on: September 05, 2018, 09:48:36 AM »
I'm surprised at some of the rarities, at least for the time.  The Pack of Trouble 4 pack was actually at the two Walmarts on either side of us, but many people reported not finding it at all.

A lot of ones near the end, as well, were hard to find because less stores were stocking them.  I Heart Fashion Cleo was one of the last big ones I wanted.  It doesn't help not living near a TRU, but the one time we went after her release, there were just two Venuses.  Haunted Spectra and Rochelle, Rochelle especially since I think Spectras were showing at up Tuesday Morning, was it?  I always thought Rochelle was never bought by Walmart, even though she was supposed to be Walmart exclusive, because of the disaster that was FCA Operetta.  Full endcaps of her just sat, so Walmart didn't take that chance again, I suppose.

Of the earlier ones, basic Holt, Ghoulia, Lagoona, and Toralei held value for the longest of time and were difficult to come by.  I never saw any of them, or Forbitten Love.  Dawn of the Dance Deuce and Ghoulia are also pretty hard to come by, Lagoona was for a while but was re-released.

Early exclusives before the line's fanbase grew are also pretty rare.  Gloom Beach 5 Pack, Dawn of the Dance 3 Pack, and Lagoona and her Hydration Station come to mind.  Most people didn't want to spend $40-$60 bucks on big doll sets for a doll line that just dropped, our parents included, so my sister never wound up with the DOTD three pack even though she asked several times for it.

Ever After High Discussion / Re: It's official

In a way, I'm kind of glad it's been said in an official capacity.  A couple of the newer ones I wanted, and I had hoped to see more dolls for some characters, but I'm OK with how it ended.  It wasn't as bad as MH's last couple of years.

@konzern is basic holt and treesa available?
Basic Holt sold recently, Treesa is still available.

Our Rite Aid is closing, everything was 50% off but most everything is gone.  My sister found two first wave DC Bombshells, got Poison Ivy and Hawk Girl.

Added my small collection of Barbies, and one Mulan doll.  I really need to take pictures of the in box dolls I haven't sold.  ^^;

Monster Discussion / Re: Jackson Jekyll: Normie or Monster?

Plus, you have his added half fire elemental side, so it makes sense he's monstrous.  He might not have abilities like some of the other monsters, but his transformation into Holt is more than enough to make him a monster.  I like the comparison to old school werewolves.  They, too, appear human but have a trigger that brings out the fully monster side and are often considered monsters whether in human form or not.

That reminds me! Didn't Heath mention that Jackson is his cousin at one point? Or am I misremembering? Or was it Holt he specifically mentioned as his cousin?
Heath mentions it in Jackson's first webisode debut.  I think he and Deuce are eating lunch and Deuce questions the normie, Heath says that's his cousin, and Deuce calls him over.

I just recently paid for Roy, Lyn, and Robin's chibi badges, waiting on them to come from Japan now.  I just need Camilla and the Black Knight, if he was even released like he was supposed to be, and I'll have all the Fire Emblem chibi badges out so far.

Our Walmart has knocked these down to $3 a box.  We didn't figured they'd be a big hit, but my sister is a little sad since she likes them so much.

Yeah they really dropped the ball with these. There needed to be more color variations and maybe a special one to chase after.
Or at least rarities.  I kind of figured if they did a second wave, it would have more variety, but it doesn't look like that'll happen.  Maybe I can at least get up the ones my sister wants.

There is a Series 2 but they are just as bland and the packaging looks almost identical to Series 1.

Wow, so they just swapped the hair and faces I guess.

Monster Discussion / Re: Jackson Jekyll: Normie or Monster?
« on: July 27, 2018, 09:33:10 AM »
I always considered Jackson a monster as well.  His appearance denotes normie, yes, but he's not truly a normie otherwise.  He isn't a mad scientist, though I imagine he could be.  After all, Jekyll's transformation into Hyde is due to a potion, so science might run in the family.

The Jekyll/Hyde dynamics have always been a unique case of monster-dom to me.  Hyde isn't a monster, as media likes to portray him.  Like Jekyll, he's human, but the appearance is different.  Hyde is described as looking brutish, small, slighter, and younger than Jekyll.  However, Jekyll/Hyde fits the mad scientist archetype, and while mad scientists are typically human, their actions tend to make them monsters in a sense.

Monster High, however, has likened Hyde-like characteristics to a monster as it is often portrayed.  His mom's Hyde side is shown in his diary, and it's implied she's some sort of hulking beast.

Some of the little neighborhood monsters decided that they were going to play "kick the can" only they were going to use me as the can. Every time I tried to run home they blocked my way and pushed me down. I started crying and then they really started making fun of me. Then all of a sudden I heard this roar and there was my mom. Even though it didn't look like her I knew it was and honestly all I could think was, "Why mother, what big muscles you have."

My sister's about the same way at this point.  Olenna's kind of a tipping point, really, but for the past year or so, we've not been able to go out and hunt, and when we do, stores are getting less and less in our area.  Online is either hit or miss, mostly miss for us.  I see people getting orders that are packaged well, but ours arrive in too small boxes or crushed  half the time.  Also been really discouraged, I think, since Toucan Sam.  I was there when he dropped and still didn't get her one.

At this point, she's thinned through about half of her collection.  Hers will probably be thinned down to mostly video games, a few anime and cartoons like Nicktoons, and Game of Thrones.  She wants the Sanderson sisters, but isn't even sure about pulling the trigger on them at this point.

I've been sitting here with Playboy in my EE cart for 20 minutes at this point and just meeting server errors.  He's one of the few I actually want, I mainly keep up with Funko for her.

Forgot about ones going online last night, so no Olenna or Playboy Penguin for me.  The only one left in stock we were interested in is Black Lady, and I don't think she'll go too fast.  Ah, well, I didn't have the extra money to spend on them, but dang I wish I had gotten Olenna for my sister.

Black Lady will be sold at Hot Topic starting this morning.  In case you're able to make a trip over there today.
Olenna is also being sold at BoxLunch and Playboy Penguin is available through Entertainment Earth (their website is down right now so I can't check and see if there are any still in stock).

Here is a list of all of the shared exclusives and where they're being sold: https://www.funko.com/blog/article/sdcc-2018-shared-exclusives
I know, and Black Lady is still in stock last I looked, but Olenna went fast.  I even looked at hboshop.com and she was sold out there as well.
