A couple of nights ago, while I was half asleep, my sister showed me this site she had found.  https://otsukai.manga.tokyo/ where you can basically post want ads for goods available only in Japan.  It does mention anime and manga, but you might be able to ask for fakies or Pullips or other dolls.  I have seen people asking for Japanese snacks and treats.

How it works is you post what you're looking for, with a maximum of what you would pay, and, as the site calls them, Japanese friends will offer your asking price or lower, get it for you, and ship it to you.  For example, my sister posted an ad for some Fire Emblem badges, many at $25, someone answered with $22 for one of the badges, and she accepted.  They take Paypal and there are shipping rate lists.  It might start off in Japanese, but you can easily switch it to English.

I've seen people on here talking about ordering from Amiami, or figma collections and things like that, so I figured I'd share in case you guys haven't seen it.

Yesterday at TRU we found the Fan Girl dolls, and the more I looked at Black Widow, the more I thought she'd be awesome for Almedha.  She's got the mermaid gown and the hat with veil, though there would need to be altering and extending and such.  (Of course, by the time I convinced myself to at least ask, we were out of the store and I didn't get to go back in for another.  ^^;)

Here's what I mean:

Looking at her, it seems like other than the obvious rerooting and styling of her hair, doing the face up and added her markings, you'd have to take the existing hat and paint it and sculpt around it into shape.  I was thinking the existing dress could be a base, but then it has the faint spider web markings to it, so perhaps as a template or completely altering it, with a longer skirt to cover the feet anyway.

There's also the sleeve additions, sheer additions at the neckline and big part around the bodice, my sister calls it a jacket for lack of a better term but the more we look, the more it looks attached to the dress, painting the sheer and other parts that might need it, and adding buttons to the bodice.  And maybe anything else I'm missing.

It seems possible to me, but again I have no knowledge or skill here.  My sister and I would be willing to go halfsies on getting a custom done, whether it be trading dolls or paying money or a combination of both or whatever we'd have to do.

(I have no idea why Widow's feet are like that, I actually popped her box open, unbuttoned her two bottom buttons, and did everything but completely remove her to check on them, but they seem OK.
We were in a hurry at that point and just grabbed the first one that looked great hair wise, because my sister's original plan was to keep her.  If they are broken in some way, I imagine they could be fixed?)

Monster Discussion / The Little Things You Might Have Forgotten
« on: March 19, 2018, 06:37:51 AM »
I can't quite remember how, but my sister and I wound up on the subject of Jackson and Holt, along with Jackson's diary.  The diaries had always been my favorite canon, and for a while, I held on to every one I came across.  Until she mentioned it, though, I had forgotten that Holt wrote in Jackson's diary, but Jackson didn't write in Holt's.  I always thought it was a cute little detail and a good way for the two to communicate when they otherwise cannot.

I started to wonder what other tiny tidbits there are that we forgot, or never noticed.  Or just ones you guys always liked.

Off Topic / Chicks With Wigs
« on: March 11, 2018, 12:15:03 PM »
My sister has been eyeing these recently, but she wasn't sure how she felt about them.  While looking for pictures of them, she not only found out Kellee Riley designed the box art (she did some Monster High work including I Only Have Eye For You and SDCC Valentine and Whisp's box art, plus many toy arts like Forces of Destiny and Shimmer and Shine) she was sold by the fact that their hair is rooted!  We were thinking it might just be a mold or a removable plastic wig.  Plus, $3.88 wasn't too bad.

So we grabbed one today.  She got Amanda Chick, a purple cutie with curly pink hair.  They stand around 3 1/2 inches tall.  The hair is kind of coarse feeling, but it's still soft.

She's got a kind of wings on her hips pose.  And look at her butt!

Here's their chick checklist.  There is two dozen in the first wave, each either purple, pink, or yellow.  Six different hair styles in different colors, and different facial expressions.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

They're pretty cute; she definitely plans on getting a few more.

Off Topic / Anyone know where we can get blue acrylic glow paint?
« on: January 25, 2018, 11:48:55 AM »
Thought I'd ask here, I've seen a few glow in the dark dolls in my lurking, though I don't recall any being blue  ^^; My sister wants to paint something, and she has the idea of using glow paint for a part of it.  Well, Walmart doesn't have blue.  We saw pink, green, purple, yellow, and white. Maybe some others I'm forgetting, but definitely not blue.

There are some on Amazon, and they're like $10 for a 2 oz bottle.  I've never heard of these brands, so I don't even know if they glow well or not, or are even worth the price.  If anyone has used some blue before, any brand recommendations or ideas on where to get some?

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Off Topic / Toys R Us Stores Closing

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/24/toys-r-us-to-close-180-stores-across-the-us.html  The one we rarely get to go to is on the list.

Looks like it's going to have to be fingers crossed for online orders.  A small bright side is that I never had anything come to me crushed from them.

Off Topic / Mechanical Pencil Recommendations?
« on: October 07, 2017, 09:43:05 AM »
My sister draws traditionally, and uses a mechanical pencil to do it with.  She uses Pilot, a 0.5, and it's probably on its last legs.  We'd been looking for a replacement in stores, but they vanished.  Wound up in Office Depot the other day, and a woman was asking about them, and even the clerk said he didn't think they were making them anymore, they had not gotten any for a while.

I can get her some replacements online, and I might need to before they go up in price, but she might also need to try something different entirely.  I'm no artist, but I love pencils, pens, notebooks, etc. and I let her use my Papermate, and she didn't like that.  She has plenty of other regular pencils, but she prefers mechanical.  If any artsy people, or just pencil lovers, have any recommendations, we're all ears.

Easiest way to describe these would be blind bags (or balls, really) with stuffed animals inside.  It's something my sister has been looking for since seeing commercials for them, I think the commercials started last year?  I remember looking TRU at Christmas time for them and we had never seen any at all until these past two trips to Target.  Of course we find them with the regular ones at Series 4 and the Wackys at series 2  ^^;  So she's missed a lot.

The regular ones are about two and a half inches tall, while the Wackys sit at four inches.  The waves aren't that big, with the small series two having 15 and the Wackys having about 11 or 12.  Of four little and two Wacky, my sister has already gotten a dupe.  Here's a regular and Wacky for you guys to see:

What I do like about the Wacky ones as you can see if that it's much more obvious who you're going to get.  The tiger stripes were obvious.  We found four in the store, she got the tiger and lion.  One other was blue, which is a blue dog and the other was black, either a gorilla or bear.

Their site also has a mommy and baby set, it's a large plush (unicorn, bull dog, or brown dog) with three mystery balls in the package.  While doing Google searches, I've also seen Care Bear ones, but never saw those in stores, either.

https://surprizamals.com/ here's the site so you can see their current waves.

I was looking at one recently and remembered he came with a brush, though he really did not need it!  His hair was super gelled and slicked back, a nice head of helmet hair XD  But I did start to wonder if anyone had done anything with his hair.  Not reroot, but the stock hair he came with.  If that was possible, I'd like to see pics!

Off Topic / Can anyone identify these dogs?
« on: August 19, 2017, 09:34:05 AM »

The only thing I know is the dark brown one with the bobble head is definitely a Barbie dog, and I think the one with water wings might be as well.  The pink one looks vaguely familiar to me, but I have no idea where it or the purple and white one could be from.

Off Topic / Money & Space VS Collections
« on: August 18, 2017, 07:37:12 AM »
First paragraph removed - Wuvmykitties

I guess we've all had this issue at one point or another, but I've never had a collection get so big.  I've got dolls I didn't really love once I got them home, dolls I never intended to get, and some I'm OK with parting with.  But right now I don't know what to do, especially since I really want to focus on something else, and we have very little space.

But sometimes I sit here and think "Ugh, just get rid of everything but Valentine (and Whisp)."  Then I think "Well, I love Rochelle and my boys, too, keep those."  And then I think "You're not getting every Rochelle, so why keep her?"  And other times it's "My doll babies!"  I know there are some that I find gorgeous, that I don't want to get rid of, and some if I do get rid of them anyway and want them back, I won't be able to afford their eBay prices.

I've seen people say "Put them up and don't think of it for a while."  But we can't really do that.  I'm very limited to storage.  I have a tote full of loose dolls, I have bookshelves full of in box dolls, and three totes more with in box dolls.  I have even put a few in my sister's room, which is also seriously lacking in space.  We don't have an attic, basement, or spare room.  I have gone through them over and over again, and I can always find some to pull out, but the ones I want to part with are getting few and far between.

Plus, there's the bigger issue I think we've all run into: so many people are getting rid of collections and dolls that it's a little hard to sell.  The only other answer I can think of a yard sale or flea market booth, but people around here in this small town, if they even wanted the dolls, would expect to get them for a lot less than what we'd look to price them at.

So the question really is: what do you do when you get to this point?  Some smaller collections I have no problem getting rid of.  I'm just not into them and I have only three or four.  But when it comes to the bigger ones, how do you decide?  I know what I'd ultimately want, but I have no clue to getting there.  Of course, I think a larger house would have to really be part of that equation and that's really not going to happen!

Monster Discussion / The dolls whose prices make you do a double take.
« on: August 09, 2017, 08:38:13 AM »
I've seen a couple mentioned here and there, and I looked them up and was like "Huh?  Wait a minute!"  But what started it for us last night was my sister looking at lots, and she just blurts out "Which one of you went up?!"  I think in that lot, it was Ghouls Getaway Elissabat, who I had seen on here mentioned as one that has gone up.

I'm not talking the limited runs, like Maul Monsteristas, BYBY pack with Catty, Gloom & Bloom Cleo and Jin, etc.  The ones that hung out in your area, that you never saw anyone excited to have on the forums, or the ones you sold for nothing only to see what they're going for now.

I think off the top of my head, Bloodgood is the best example.  I recall Toys R Us stores not being able to part with her, still having full shelves of her, at like $5 at one point, or at least below $10.  She's gone down a bit, though at one point I think she was $40 loose and still can go for $50 in box.

FDC Toralei blew my mind, I was looking up FDC dolls, and she can go between $40 and $60!  Though Roses had about twenty last time we went.

13 Wishes Howleen is another, one who was a $5 Black Friday deal a few years ago and still goes for a high amount of price.  Haunt the Casbah Clawdeen and 13 Wishes Gigi also seem to be rising steadily.

Can't forget River, who sat here on clearance for a while.  No one was that excited for her that I saw, though I was not here at the time, the forum I was on everyone seemed to want Kiyomi and Vandala.  Perhaps that's why she's so expensive, because she was least sought at one point?

Fierce Rockers is another, though I think they suffer from a limited run, if anyone can confirm?  We still had the 3 pack at TRU, but they've gotten very costly on the second market.

Sales / $5 Loose Dolls, Taking Reasonable Offers on In Box Dolls
« on: August 01, 2017, 06:03:35 PM »
Smoke free home, but some things are second hand purchases, so we cannot make promises.  We do have cats and a chinchilla.

ALL loose dolls now $5 each plus shipping.  We are really ready to clear these out and send them to better homes.  I'd really prefer to ship within the US only.  I am keeping these separated by mine and my sister for my own ease of taking care of things, you do not have to use a separate Paypal address, just send to me.  Unless you're just getting some of my sister's dolls and would rather send to her.  There are so many dolls that I will only be pointing out important things.  Some are in better shape or more complete than others.

I will do holds only if I've traded or sold to you before.  Otherwise, first come, first serve.  I do have bags of accessories, so I will try to include what I have with each doll, but I might miss something.  I will be selling my accessories as well, once the dolls are gone or almost gone.  If you see something that belongs to someone you bought, I'll gladly send it to you.

As for in box dolls, please make reasonable offers if you're interested.  Loose dolls pictured in dolls under In Box are now a part of our loose doll sections.

Monster Discussion / Which, to you, was the best multipack?
« on: June 26, 2017, 10:09:35 AM »
My sister and I were discussing her Scream & Sugar two pack, and how she got it only for Nefera and didn't realize Amanita was not the best looking thing when we got home.  She and I had both agreed there are some packs that we got just for one, or two, maybe three, dolls.

But we also both agreed that the best pack to us, hands down, is the Ghouls Night Out 4 pack.  All four of those dolls are gorgeous, with only one repeater, that being Rochelle.  All four ghouls are beautiful, the only thing we're not a fan of is Clawdeen's purse.

The Fearleading 3 packs are also great, but even with repeat Rochelle, the GNO one just tops them.

Trader Support / Should I just remove them all from box?
« on: May 29, 2017, 01:54:36 PM »
Yeah, not sure if this is the right area, but since it's dealing with trades   If wrong, please move it to the right place.

My sister and I have been going through our dolls, and are still in the process of it. I figured today if I moved the dolls I plan to part with to my bookshelves, I can reach them easily if someone wants to trade for them.  Well, I made a big mess, somehow it took up more space than I thought.  I've honestly thought several times of just removing the ones I'm sure I want to trade from box, since I only see the occasional other in-box collector, and almost every trade so far I've had people say "Just take them out to save on shipping."

I've also got some I didn't want to take out of box at the time, but I took them out because I thought the trade was going to happen, but it fell through.  So now I've got several loose that I would have rather traded in box.

The one thing stopping me is the (admittedly very, very small chance from what I've seen here) of someone popping up to say "Hey, I'd love to trade for so-and-so, but I wanted one in box."  Not likely, but it's something I'd kick myself for.

So the question is should I really just go ahead and take those that I want to trade out of box, retake my pictures, and save myself some much needed room, or keep my massively huge cluttered mess of in box dolls going?   ^^;

Off Topic / Help with IDing these?
« on: March 21, 2017, 11:23:21 AM »
I'd been throwing accessories and clothes and extras into a big bag, and I've been trying to sort through it for those pieces that go with the loose ones I have and things I just picked up in lots.  To be honest, I'm not even sure the snorkel or the necklace are MH, and the black clutch makes me think of Raven.

Black clutch - Sig Raven
Necklace - Sig Maddie
Coffin bag - Forbitten Love Draculaura
Gym bag - Fearleading set

Looks like my title belongs on a talk show.  My sister and I were discussing the Dance Class 5 pack recently, and we realized that Dance Class Gil just loves her.  For a while, every lot we got had one in it, she went through about four loose ones.

The same goes for me and 13 Wishes Twyla.  I just cannot avoid her.  I've got one in box and one missing an arm right now.  It feels like both of them, even if not pictured, wound up in lots.

As for the ones that avoided us, it took a long time for my sister to find a Black Carpet Lagoona with good eyes.  Most seemed to be uneven.  One looked like it was melting down her face, but she finally found one.

For me, it's Gore-geous Accessories Robecca.  I have never seen one in person, and whenever sales would go on at Mattel's website or Amazon's deals section, there was Honey but never Robecca.

Customs / Question for customizers: would these be possible? *LONG
« on: December 28, 2016, 09:20:45 AM »
I've been debating on posting this, because I'm not sure it's the right place, but since this is for discussion, I'll give it a try.  Though if it's wrong, please let me know.  I've been wanting customs of some characters (a long list actually, so pic heavy) and it started with Kallian really.  I got a used Hunter doll, figured his body would be great but I'm holding him for a friend if she ever comes through for me.  I asked a couple of doll artists on deviantart, one of which got back to me with a custom for about 100, maybe a little lower, which was less than what I expected.  But I was told they would have to omit some things.

I'm really feeling "all or nothing" though I know some things just looking at them *cough*Egil*cough* will be impossible, I just wanted to get some customizers' opinions as to whether or not all of a character could be pulled off.

Going to post several characters in the spoiler tags below, to see if anyone can let me know if fully possible or not.  Before I start saving and grabbing dolls when they hit clearance and getting too far ahead of myself.  Also, body recommendations for those who are possible?  How are Disney Descendants?  I feel like if they go on clearance again (they were $8 a few months ago, regret not hitting that) it would be easier to grab some of them instead of hoarding Hunter and Alistair.

It goes without saying no one needs weapons or anything like that.

Sightings / ROSES: Finds & Sales
« on: December 22, 2016, 12:06:05 PM »
Just went to a Roses store near us, kind of hoping to find some newer EAH, but were surprised, and pleased in my sister's case, to find Thronecoming, Spring Unsprung, Basic Darling, a basic Briar, and  Rosabella.

MH had a couple of Black Carpet, Monster Exchange, BYBY Nefera, and Freak du Chic.
