Monster Discussion / Re: Seasonal Doll Displays
« on: June 12, 2018, 12:43:48 PM »
There are certain dolls I always keep on display, but I have one shelf dedicated to the Monster High seasonal dolls. Right now, my Skull Shores, Ghouls' Getaway, and Shriek Wrecked dolls are displayed. I set them up with an old Barbie pool playset and they look awesome!

During September I'll display my school-themed dolls, such as Student Disembody Council and Freaky Field Trip. In December I put out my Sweet Screams dolls, because for some reason they remind me of Christmas. And in the Spring months, my Gloom and Bloom dolls get a turn on my shelf.

I swap out my My Little Pony shelf, too. And as for my American Girl dolls, I dress them for the particular season or holiday and decorate their dollhouse accordingly.
If I had the room, I'd be making a ton of seasonal stuff for them- especially salt dough pumpkins. I can't wait to have room for enough room for a FdC and Shriekwrecked setup.

Monster Discussion / Seasonal Doll Displays
« on: June 11, 2018, 10:43:12 AM »
It's summer where I live. That means the warm weather dolls (swim class, Fright seers) are coming out of storage and the colder weather dolls (Epic Winter, maybe Gloom &Bloom, Scary Tales) are going to sleep until September.

I find that rotating them helps when I'm trying to avoid buying. Do you rotate dolls by season or at all? Or do you dress them for the seasons? Do you get the feeling that any of your dolls feel too hot/cold depending on outfit and time of year?

(I worry about how some dolls like Clawdeen and Cleo feel in cold, but don't think cold bothers other dolls like Abbey or Rochelle or Skelita or Robecca)

Here are some better images of her!

Woah... she's really pretty... like if Maddie Hatter was a genie.

"Make your wishes and blow your candles" sounds like a PG-13 way of telling someone to go... fly a kite.

Remember when MH dominated half of the doll section? Now there’s just a messy stack of $5 budget dolls, crammed into a small section of the bottom shelf at Walmart.

Bleh. Can’t say I love what’s happened to the toy industry in the last few years. :/ It feels like everything on the current market is aimed at 4-7 year olds...

It's true... but (and maybe I'm completely wrong) I feel that we can thank Monster High for all the new articulation we're seeing in dolls. I remember when it was just the five points and maybe a bend-and-snap knee. Now we're getting elbows and proper knees, and even ankles and wrists that move. How many dolls have jumped on that just because of Monster High? It may be pretty much over, but it won't be forgotten.

And you never know- it's summer, so maybe some Mattel interns will be getting in there and bringing some new ideas.

Sales / Re: Collection Downsizing MH EAH MLP AG
« on: May 09, 2018, 09:28:26 AM »
Oh boy, I count four, maybe five dolls that I'm totally coming back for around October, if they're still around. I won't say which, in case someone else gets to them first, but if they're still here, I'll be back for them. One of them will be that poor Raven dolly with all the black on her. I think I can turn her into a cool cyborg.

I don't recognize Snow White's dress. Did you make it, or...?

Monster Discussion / Re: Finnegan Wake with international diary?
« on: March 27, 2018, 10:24:25 AM »
Finn was indeed Mattel Shop Exclusive (at least in America). That's where I got him (one for me, then months later one for my brother).

Good news is that if you want to read his diary, the full text is available online. The Monster High fan wiki has all of the diaries.

Please forgive me if you already know about this place and it's not helpful, but have you tried https://eahmerch.com ? It's a
 sister site to https://mh-merch.com.

Monster Discussion / Re: The ghouls and pants/jeans
« on: March 12, 2018, 07:27:44 PM »
I think the reason Monster High opted for short skirts is because the creators wanted to show off the fact that the dolls were made with articulated limbs. I feel like such articulation in dolls wasn't all that common at the time.

But I think I have a pair of jeans or two for Monster High dolls that I got from eBay. That place is lousy with doll jeans at pretty low prices. The only catch is that it takes about 3 months to be delivered because they come from China. If you want, I can take a picture of a few pairs I have and you can have them for free. They're for the standard ghoul bodies, though, not for the little sister bodies.

Monster Discussion / Your Unusual Doll Opinions
« on: March 12, 2018, 07:21:21 PM »
I've been hearing about gluehead for years, and only recently watched a video about what it is and how to get rid of it. "Wait a minute" I thought when I saw the doll they were working on, "that's what gluehead is?" Turns out that my DT Draculaura has gluehead. But the thing is, I've always loved the texture of her hair. It stayed in place and held dramatic styles really well. I've always wished more of my dolls had hair like her's. But apparently, most people really hate that kind of thing.

What are some of your not-so-popular doll opinions? Things/looks/characters/features you like that many people don't, things you don't like that most people seem to love, ect?

I really need to do a two pannel comic about this.

-It seems Count Fabulous has fallen into a bucket of pink paint. Draculaura really should clean him up before it sets.
-More Stepford haircuts
-But articulation?? And two outfits?? Thank you, Mattel!

- Clawdeen looks really good. Like, surprisingly good. They didn't give her that horrible airhead-face! And the accessories are really cute.

-Lagoona's accessories are really nice, too. Her hair will have to be fixed, but at least they didn't just leave it as a ponytail. They gave it a nice bow-thing.

Just when we had given up hope, we get these, and it's not bad. Really, really not bad.

Monster Discussion / Re: Grief over the end of G1?
« on: February 07, 2018, 04:29:54 PM »
The loss of G1 hurts me. I've said it before, and I'll say it again- New Frankie is absolutely disgusting. She looks like she was hanging out with a bunch of Barbie dolls and she felt ashamed of being a monster, so she put on a bunch of makeup and tried to cover her stitches and is trying to look like a human. It's gross. It's no longer "Be yourself, be unique, be a monster". Now it's "fall in line, conform, be a cutesy airhead". As though the market wasn't drowning in pink-glitter dolls already. That's the really annoying part. Think what you want about the fact that some people like the reboot, but all I can think is "like you didn't have enough wide-eyed smiley nicey-nice dolls to choose from already."

I just hope that in the future, someone revives the idea of freaky monster dolls. It'll take a person with the guts to take a risk. Not like the people running the show now- they're cowards who would rather play it safe and offer clones of every other doll out there.

At least now there's a chance for us to finish our collections though, right? Remember when they kept coming out with gorgeous lines every other month, and we were like "...I have three dollars."? No more of that now! And as for clothes, there's always Haunt Couture and other amazing Etsy doll fashion stores.

Monster Discussion / When Dolls Make You a Little Crazy
« on: February 07, 2018, 11:13:21 AM »
Finally managed to find a complete signature Ashlynn. I had no intention of buying hunter, but then I read her bookmark and her yearbook page and started feeling guilty, so I thought "I'll just look up her bio and put her with her friends!"

"Lots of people are my friends…Apple White, Raven Queen…but Hunter Huntsman is the only one who really understands me."

"Alright, alright, I'll find Hunter and bring him here!" I think I might have said it out loud (but I sure hope not) Then I spent an hour making her a fancy MirrorPad from cardboard, tin foil, gems, and paint chips so she could "talk" to Hunter until he got here.

Do your dolls ever make you feel crazy or do... things? Do you feel compelled to display them with their friends, or change their outfits if you feel that they dislike them, or find something to cover them up if you need to wash their hair and you don't want them to have to be nude? Any little customs like that or rituals that you feel compelled to carry out?

Please tell me I'm not alone... :drop:

Monster Discussion / Re: Your Doll "Thank Goodness!" and "D'OH!" Moments
« on: January 29, 2018, 09:40:59 PM »
Also, honestly not giving EAH a chance.  I found myself liking so much in the last year or two, mainly due to Duchess, and yeah.

I didn't give EAH a chance when it first came out either!  My intro to them was Cupid being pulled from the monster world to the E.A.H world, and I resented it deeply because I loved the idea of Cupid being a monster* and was resentful that she was going to be pulled away and given to what seemed to be another girly, pretty princess cartoon when there were already hundreds. I thought it would pull the attention away from the new "scary cool" fad, that kids would drop monsters in favor of the same old sparkegarbage, and everything would go back to the same old lack of variety in toys for girls.

But then it turned out that since EAH was about princesses, the creators were bending over backwards to make the show empowering and not about romance, but about girls being strong and smart. I mean they really pushed the strong girls who work for their future and take charge "and don't need no man" message. Hilariously, I came to realize that Monster High had the exact opposite thing going on- since they were "scary" and "creepy", the creators spammed it with love and romance to the point where every single one of the main ghouls (except Clawdeen) had a romantic partner and 90% of the stories were love-romance-dating related, which got super annoying once I realized it. EAH had comparatively little romance. Only Ashlynn had an actual boyfriend, and most of the rest weren't concerned with dating. I wish I'd realized that sooner.

*I mean, can you imagine being forced to be in love with someone against your will? Or being forced to fall in love with someone you hate? Love doesn't mean liking, so it's got to be horrible. Like, imagine being in love with a huge, hairy tarantula? You're in love with it, but it terrifies you, but you want it, but you can't stand the sight of it, but it's all you think about. Horror.

Monster Discussion / Your Doll "Thank Goodness!" and "D'OH!" Moments
« on: January 29, 2018, 05:44:42 PM »
I'm looking on eBay right now for Ghoul Fair Howleen, and the prices are killing me. $18 for her loose without accessories, $39 for her NIB?!? How much is that dumb balloon worth?? And Fairest on Ice Duchess is nearing $50?!? And Signature Holly is $95?!?! Ohhh, if only I'd jumped on these things when they first came out. Doll D'OH Moments

Then as I'm looking, I see that Dragon Games Poppy is $75. I waited crouched like a tiger for that doll and sprang to Wal-Mart the day she was released to snag her, and I am so glad that I did. Same thing with Haunted Rochelle- I waited online at Wal-Mart and hit that "Add to Cart" button so dang fast... now she's pushing $50 loose, and I feel like I dodged a bullet with both of these ladies. Doll "Thank Goodness!" Moment

What are your dolly D'OH/Thank Goodness! Moments?

Oh!! I didn’t even notice the wrists!! I wonder though if you could cut and sand off her hands and insert articulate hands? If you drill a small hole. Since they are just pegs you can push in, right? Now I’m kind of curious!

You can. There are posts on Tumblr and Youtube for how to do that.

Here's one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xm2sVGJEp0) , but I know there are better ones out there if you search for "doll articulation tutorial" or "how to add articulation to dolls" or "how to articulate doll"

Monster Discussion / Re: Headscarf in the Monster High universe?
« on: January 25, 2018, 05:33:06 AM »
I've actually been looking since October for a Cleo without bangs specifically so I can give her a headscarf. There's a youtube tutorial on how to make a doll with a hijab. They're so pretty; I really want one, but nearly every Cleo has bangs and I don't want to cut them off.

Monster Discussion / Re: New dolls! Rainy Day dolls
« on: January 23, 2018, 07:01:52 AM »
I really don't know if Mattel is incompetent or if they just don't care. It's not so much the fact that they're releasing unarticulated garbage so much as it is they're releasing unarticulated garbage that renders the toy impractical. If you're going to give a doll an umbrella, why would you not give her the ability to hold said umbrella in a way that makes sense? She may as well be carrying a walking stick for all the good it'll do her. Whoever designed these must have been talking with the genius who brought us stiff-armed Cleo and her harp that she can't play. So much wasted potential with these dolls.

And the thing that really, really gets me is that Mattel is a multi-billion dollar company. People hated on the Lammily doll for being "boring", but that was an unknown independent company release. Mattel has brand recognition and resources. How much would they really lose by putting out more quality dolls instead of cheap plastic dollar store caliber crap? Does the CEO really need a fourth private jet that badly? Ugh.
