Unlike Monster High, I don't see Ever After High as having any sort of G2, as the new-look dolls don't really count for me. It was officially ended before Monster High, having a few TV specials under its belt and quite a few doll lines. I see this line even more rarely than MH (I actually saw a playset for Epic Winter in B&Ms!), and I think books were the last item to come out for this?

If you had the chance to reboot or relaunch Ever After High, regardless of budget, would you? HOW would you do it?

[And if you do, please release Dragon Games and Epic Winter on DVD so I can have them in my collection :c ]

Monster Discussion / How would YOU reboot Monster High? Would you?
« on: February 05, 2019, 03:49:49 PM »
Monster High is pretty much dead. I don't like it, but I have to accept it; I only ever see dolls VERY rarely, and it's always Great Scarrier Reef stuff. I am going through eBay lots to watch out for Clawdia Wolf and Catty Noir dolls to either get again or get for redresses, plus some duvet covers and towels to decorate my home.

I never liked the look of G2, the clips I've seen of the two G2 movies put a bad taste in my mouth and I didn't really warm to the minis that much.

If YOU had the chance to reboot the series, with NO budget restraints, how would you do it?

Monster Discussion / Jackson Jekyll: Normie or Monster?
« on: July 27, 2018, 08:53:16 AM »
The forums have been quiet since the reboot and I kinda just want to start a discussion  :P

Normies vs. Monsters gradually faded out of the MH universe, eventually pretty much becoming 'there's a monster world, deal with it' with normie only sometimes popping out as an insult or to describe someone as purely human (think Sparky/Dr. Victor Frankenstein). It was a focal point of Ghouls Rule and made an appearance in Freaky Fusion as Sparky got some bullying regarding his status as a normie in a monster-themed school.

That leaves us with the current 'normie' student, Jackson Jekyll. The thing is, he transforms into Holt Hyde when exposed to loud music. Holt is not doubted as a monster, but Manny in particular seemed to want to constantly label him as a normie ...

But is Jackson Jekyll truely a normie? Or can he be classed as a monster? Or does he simply occupy the status of human but entrenched in the monster world?

Let's discuss. There are 'normies' in Monster High that do belong there as they are deeply sewn into the monster world. Mr. Hackington seems to be a normal human (albeit one that worked as a professional Igor before teaching), I would say Hexiciah Steam is also human, simply an augmented one (I don't like the idea he's a Fae to be honest), and Dr. Frankenstein is also human.

Sparky got stick for being human, but he very clearly belonged in the Monster High world and occupied the Mad Scientist archetype. Mr. Hackington belonged to Igor/servant archetype and now appears to take on the hangman/executionor appearence as part of his look, but not job. Hexiciah is a bit like Sparky in that he marries human with inhuman, albiet it's steampunk machinary in his case.

Where does that leave Jackson? The thing is, he DOES have part of him that are clearly monster; Holt Hyde. The two are seperate in mind, but share the same body. It would be unfair to Jackson to simply regard his human self as Holt's alter ego or safe. He seems to fit the transforming monster archetype pretty well, like old-school werewolves that don't seem to exist in MH's universe (at least G1, it's G1 canon I'm going from here).

So I put it to the MHAreana Member Disembodiment Council, I say Jackson Jekyll rightfully belongs at Monster High and can be regarded as a monster!

Monster Discussion / When did G1 end for you?
« on: April 16, 2018, 05:45:30 AM »
Well, more 'what were the warning signs', either looking back or that you felt was a warning sign at the time?

This is not an attack on G2, nor is this an attack on lines/characters/movies that you like! Heck, I'm going to name my own, but I like other aspects related to the 'warning sign' that I half-saw at the time, half-realise afterwards. I see this kind of thing pop up in other toy lines whenever generations wind down or looks to end (think many people discussing G4 MLP for example, ranging from Faust leaving being the 'end', to Cadence/Princess Twilight/Flurry Heart/addition of Starlight Glimmer/introduction of EQ reasonings).

For me, two things stand out. First is aspects of Monster Exchange; verrry specifically, Batsy Claro's odd mix of colours and terrible spirograph-like wings. I didn't expect characters like Lorna or Kjersti to come back after first doll, but they were okay. Marisol's colours were also pretty horrible to me, but she had a good gimmick and an interesting tie to MH.

Second was the Ghouls Getaway line. Tiki-inspired ghouls? Sounds okay, almost like a missed Skull Shores line, but the sheer amount of huge pieces of unpainted, tacky plastic REALLY put me off. And the fact it seemed to be random characters! I consider Shriek Wreaked a hybrid G1/G2 line and don't really include that ... that line had huuuuge potential, especially with old-school Sailor Jerry-style fabric patterns, yes please!

What were your warning signs?

Off Topic / What were they thinking?! toy lines
« on: April 05, 2018, 12:20:36 PM »
I am usually okay for most toy lines, they're fine even if I don't 'get' them. But sometimes I REALLY gotta know why they're there.

I play games that have ads, and one was for a toy line called 'Poopees'. And yes, it's poop and pee (and fart)-based squishable figures with punny names, that come in toilet roll/toilet/portapotty containers. To top it off, the animation for the logo is a ... 'fresh' poop. It's seriously gross.

What other toy lines make you go 'WHAT?!'

Ever After High Discussion / Ever After High : Baby Dragons game
« on: April 05, 2018, 11:54:25 AM »
Does anyone else play this? Since Neko Atsume seems to curse my phone, I've gotten into this and saving to buy Nevermore!

Ever After High Discussion / Dragon Games question
« on: March 26, 2018, 02:29:34 AM »
I've got the Baby Dragons app (because an update murdered my phone and I had to delete Neko Atsume *AGAIN*. I am convinced that game is jinxed), and I am looking at all the named dragons ...

I know Lizzie Hearts didn't get a doll, but I remember seeing her and her dragon with her dragon refusing to play along with her a lot. Did that dragon HAVE a name? The dragons I have so far are:

Crumpets - Maddie
Braebyrn - Apple
Nevermore - Raven
Deejay - Melody
Prince of Scales -  Holly
Brushfire - Poppy
Herowing - Darling

Who am I missing? Lizzie's dragon?

Clawdeen's Closet / Help! Stained Cross stitch material!
« on: November 20, 2017, 12:49:01 PM »
The impossible, the heartbreaking has happened ... bumping into a cabinet has resulted, SOMEHOW, in spilling a drop of old beer on top of my cross stitch project!  :freak:

The drop has landed on the edge, dangerously close to the thread. I wanted to keep a reasonable white border so the piece can be framed later. Is there a way to get the dark stain OUT of the aida? right now it's drying and My heart is hammering over this near-catastrophe!

Monster Discussion / Tall chair colour question
« on: October 17, 2017, 05:12:23 PM »
There's a tall chair I sometimes see dolls posed on, I think it's from a café set? It has a black border, and a red/pink'ish upholstery. Could someone comfirm if the colour IS red? Or a shocking pink, i.e. Catty Noir pink?

Wanted / Seeking a Japanese Translator
« on: October 12, 2017, 04:53:11 PM »
The manga-ka of one of my favourite series (the one that got me into manga in the first place!) has commented on her page, showing another doshinji for that series. I would like to comment on the page in Japanese so she can (maybe!) read and understand it.

Problem? I can't speak a word of Japanese and don't trust Google Translate to get the right message.

I would like to ask someone to translate a short message. This would be PAID FOR via Paypal at a rate to be agreed. I would happily accept suggestions on small variations of my message to make it as polite as possible.

Anyone interested?

(and no, on the site that hosts her stuff to buy, I don't see any international shipping at all, which is very sad  I would buy ALL the available books if I could!)

Ever After High Discussion / Small random EAH questions
« on: September 26, 2017, 09:12:18 AM »
I've been watching a couple of the movies whilst stitching/doing paperwork, and I have a couple of questions since I haven't seen most of the webisodes.

1. Raven's ears are pierced? She doesn't seem to wear earrings on her regular look, though? Is there a reason for that? I thought she simply didn't have pierced ears but then she has earrings in Thronecoming at least, unless she wears clip-ons

2. Cerise is supposed to keep her wolf heritage secret ... does she still have to do that? I find it hard she's keeping this quiet when she outright growls/snarls and howls in public.

3. Is that secret the reason Cerise doesn't point out that her parents have technically gone against their stories by marrying each other? Or does it not really count after signing their Stories and acting out their roles? Like, the act is done, what happens afterwards is irrelevant?

4. Why ... does Briar consider Apple her 'best friend' after Apple blatantly disregarded her feelings over having to sleep for 100 years when Apple was cheering and pretty much gloating about Raven signing the book? Apple even gives the non-apology apology ("I'm sorry you're upset", i.e. I'm sorry for YOUR reaction). Apple doesn't even say sorry later, and even becomes a burden when she pricks her finger and has to be rescued. Raven has the patience of a saint with Apple, but I honestly found it disgusting the way Apple just completely ignored Briar's upset.

5. Ceder's voice is amazing and she is the cutest bug. No question here, she just is.

Off Topic / Book recommendations!
« on: September 21, 2017, 09:46:29 AM »
Looking for books is harder these days for me  I'm looking for really specific types of books, could the forum help?

I'm looking for GEISHA-themed books, both fiction and non-fiction. I've read Geisha of Gion, Autobiography of a Geisha, and Memoirs of a Geisha. Looking for more, and not willing to take the risk on Amazon books that may or not be of sufficiant quality.

Recommend away!

Monster Discussion / New Movie Pack? (G1 Movies)
« on: July 26, 2017, 02:06:07 PM »
When looking on eBay for cheap new MH DVDs (yeah, I want to buy them again  ^^; ) I spotted this three-pack:

The description says this has Frights Camera Action, Ghouls Rule and Boo York, Boo York on it as well as 3 MH and 3 EAH shorts.

Off Topic / The Nice Thread

Since the world can be ... rather dark at the moment, why not a list of nice things to listen the mood?

I'll start: the feeling when you've done a really good job cleaning

I'm out of doll collecting for the most part, but I still enjoy the movies and I'm currently watching some while I cross-stitch. I just like to imagine things that must happen in parts we don't see

Frankie: Hey, Headmistress Bloodgood! We're back from another terrifying adventure!
HHB: Frankie-
Frankie: And I brought another brand-boo student to join Monster High with barely any background or parents!
HHB: Frankie plz
Frankie: Oh, and I may or may not be dating them, or they're with one of my ghoulfriends, depends if they are shy and sweet and clumsy or not
HHB: *Writing down* No more field trips for Frankie Stein or any of her friends. School cannot afford new students/enemies smashing the halls.

Head of Bite-ology: So, today we will be discussing a new subject; hybrids and where they come from!
Bonita: Uhhhh

Skullastic board: So, how many teachers are there here at Monster High?
HHB: About 3. I teach too but no-one sees that. And a guidence counciller.
Skullastic board: ...
HHB: There's a tentacle that keeps kidnapping the same student over and over again and a dangerous maze under the school and the amount of TEACHERS is what's tripping you up?

Spectra: Oooh, another scoop for the Ghostly Gossip!
Clawdeen: Spectra, do you even GO to classes
Spectra: ...
Clawdeen: I'm serious, I've never seen you in one
Spectra: ..............
Clawdeen: ... are you even supposed to be at this school
Spectra: ........................ OO HOT TIP GOTTA GO BYE

Ever After High Discussion / Ever After High movie question
« on: May 04, 2017, 02:10:25 PM »
So, I've seen Way Too Wonderland and Dragon Games but very poor quality versions. To be honest, I'm not into EAH but I kinda liked these movies and really want to see Dragon Games again (I still prefer MH movies XD But I like the 2D animation and wish that MH did more 2D movies like EAH).

Did Dragon Games ever get released to DVD? As far as I see, there's a DVD called Welcome to Ever After High that has Thronecoming (?) and Spring Unsprung, and Way Too Wonderland has its own DVD. Anyone clarify or correct? Dragon Games is the last movie, right?

Catrine's Art Studio / Lady Frostbite Doodles: Taking Prompts!
« on: April 27, 2017, 09:52:45 AM »
To try and give my horrible brain something to do, and due to being inspired to do a kind of giraffe I'm not sure I can post about here, I am open to take some drawing prompts!

Please look at the 'rules':

1. Humans and humanoids are sticky so I cannot draw 'em yet :c Sorry!
2. SFW please!
3. If I do use references, I WILL note it here!
4. Animals are good, they're much easier to do!
5. Cake

Send me weird and wacky ideas!

Off Topic / HELP! Warped book pages!
« on: April 22, 2017, 01:23:53 PM »
Soooo I collect manga (shameless fujoshi), and my habit when I get new manga in this house is to pick up the mail, go back to bed, open to make sure that everything is good, and leave books on my bedside until I read them and put them back on the shelf, after doing anything I need done first.

Well, after a few hours, TWO manga on two separate occasions have become 'warped'. The pages are wavy throughout the ENTIRE thing! I will post a picture once my hands are healed.

Reading online, it sounds like this is a humidity issue. The books are in my living room, I have a huge dehumidifier cracked up on full, and the books are squished tight on a shelf to try and straighten them. They still look bad right now, can any book-savvy people give me tips? Insight on what this is and how to prevent it? I've given up on a lot of collecting, but my manga is still very precious to me and I DON'T want any more books warped!

I don't have any bigger heavier books to squash these ones with, since I live with a VERY small setup at the moment.

[Note to mods: I'm cross-posting this with MLP arena because I want to reach as many people as possible, please PM me if this is not allowed!)
