Unlike Monster High, I don't see Ever After High as having any sort of G2, as the new-look dolls don't really count for me. It was officially ended before Monster High, having a few TV specials under its belt and quite a few doll lines. I see this line even more rarely than MH (I actually saw a playset for Epic Winter in B&Ms!), and I think books were the last item to come out for this?

If you had the chance to reboot or relaunch Ever After High, regardless of budget, would you? HOW would you do it?

[And if you do, please release Dragon Games and Epic Winter on DVD so I can have them in my collection :c ]

Monster Discussion / How would YOU reboot Monster High? Would you?
« on: February 05, 2019, 03:49:49 PM »
Monster High is pretty much dead. I don't like it, but I have to accept it; I only ever see dolls VERY rarely, and it's always Great Scarrier Reef stuff. I am going through eBay lots to watch out for Clawdia Wolf and Catty Noir dolls to either get again or get for redresses, plus some duvet covers and towels to decorate my home.

I never liked the look of G2, the clips I've seen of the two G2 movies put a bad taste in my mouth and I didn't really warm to the minis that much.

If YOU had the chance to reboot the series, with NO budget restraints, how would you do it?

Monster Discussion / Re: Favorite Monster High character
« on: October 08, 2018, 06:14:35 PM »
Guess!

Seriously, it has to be Abbey above all. I wanted her in all lines and she was the ghoul that got me into physically collecting the dolls. She is blunt, smart, strong, has a tough but loving heart. She gets a better deal in the 2D cartoons, the 3D ones tend to just make her all yak jokes, but she has some brilliant moments (she's a stand out in Fright Night Frights and my asexual self LOOOOVES her no-nonsense attitude in Why Do Ghouls Fall In Love?).

I love Frankie's sweet and upbeat nature. I thought I would be annoyed with the typical 'clumsy sweet' protagonist, but Frankie has her serious moments, and she honestly tries her best, she absolutely won me over! I think her black-and-white Skull Shores look is the best, she just ROCKS that bob!

Clawdeen gets another shout-out, as she was the ghoul that got me to try and take Monster High seriously, and remains a favourite. I love how passionate she is, I love how she tries to talk people down gently before losing patience and telling them straight (compare this to Abbey, who does not bother sugar-coating, and Frankie who has problems telling people point-blank). Plus, I love how she's not got a serious or recurring love interest; more ghouls without boyfriends, please! I wouldn't mind if she was straight or LGBT+, I just like ghouls who don't chase after others (blame my ace side!).

If we name the boys, hm, it's a toss-up between Deuce and Neightan with Neightan winning overall. Deuce I love when he's so chill and slightly bemused at the insanity around him (the moment when he discovers Clawd in a trash can in 13 Wishes and when he was the only one who thought the chaos would be funny in [oh shoot I can't remember the movie though I picture the scene, I'll be right back!] are big ones). It's a great contrast to the over-dramatic Cleo, and I was disappointed at the CRINGE that was his blowing a big dinner in Boo York (I honestly have to skip or mute it, it's physically painful for me) and the strangely out-of-character moment in Scaris when he's also convinced Cleo might meet other guys, despite being the one to reassure Clawd in the beginning.

Neightan is pretty much Frankie's perfect beau. He's just as sweet and clumsy as her, and gorgeous as well. It's funny he's pretty much the leader of his circle, despite being the sweetest and least bossy (that would be Avea), it's a good mirror of how Frankie is pretty much the leader of the ghoulfriends, despite Cleo's royal hand and Clawdeen's take-charge attitude XD

Thank you so much!! Sorry I replied to this late, things have been craaaazy this year  My birthday was pretty sedate, boring and lonely this year, kinda a reflection of the year. But seeing this thread really cheered me up, thank you ghouls!

I was never into EAH too much, but the specials are super-cute and I warmed to them. I'm sad the line is dead, especially since there will be no new 2D movies and I REALLY wish Dragon Games and Epic Winter came out on DVD

Monster Discussion / Re: Jackson Jekyll: Normie or Monster?
« on: August 14, 2018, 06:18:42 AM »
Plus, you have his added half fire elemental side, so it makes sense he's monstrous.  He might not have abilities like some of the other monsters, but his transformation into Holt is more than enough to make him a monster.  I like the comparison to old school werewolves.  They, too, appear human but have a trigger that brings out the fully monster side and are often considered monsters whether in human form or not.

That reminds me! Didn't Heath mention that Jackson is his cousin at one point? Or am I misremembering? Or was it Holt he specifically mentioned as his cousin?

Monster Discussion / Jackson Jekyll: Normie or Monster?
« on: July 27, 2018, 08:53:16 AM »
The forums have been quiet since the reboot and I kinda just want to start a discussion  :P

Normies vs. Monsters gradually faded out of the MH universe, eventually pretty much becoming 'there's a monster world, deal with it' with normie only sometimes popping out as an insult or to describe someone as purely human (think Sparky/Dr. Victor Frankenstein). It was a focal point of Ghouls Rule and made an appearance in Freaky Fusion as Sparky got some bullying regarding his status as a normie in a monster-themed school.

That leaves us with the current 'normie' student, Jackson Jekyll. The thing is, he transforms into Holt Hyde when exposed to loud music. Holt is not doubted as a monster, but Manny in particular seemed to want to constantly label him as a normie ...

But is Jackson Jekyll truely a normie? Or can he be classed as a monster? Or does he simply occupy the status of human but entrenched in the monster world?

Let's discuss. There are 'normies' in Monster High that do belong there as they are deeply sewn into the monster world. Mr. Hackington seems to be a normal human (albeit one that worked as a professional Igor before teaching), I would say Hexiciah Steam is also human, simply an augmented one (I don't like the idea he's a Fae to be honest), and Dr. Frankenstein is also human.

Sparky got stick for being human, but he very clearly belonged in the Monster High world and occupied the Mad Scientist archetype. Mr. Hackington belonged to Igor/servant archetype and now appears to take on the hangman/executionor appearence as part of his look, but not job. Hexiciah is a bit like Sparky in that he marries human with inhuman, albiet it's steampunk machinary in his case.

Where does that leave Jackson? The thing is, he DOES have part of him that are clearly monster; Holt Hyde. The two are seperate in mind, but share the same body. It would be unfair to Jackson to simply regard his human self as Holt's alter ego or safe. He seems to fit the transforming monster archetype pretty well, like old-school werewolves that don't seem to exist in MH's universe (at least G1, it's G1 canon I'm going from here).

So I put it to the MHAreana Member Disembodiment Council, I say Jackson Jekyll rightfully belongs at Monster High and can be regarded as a monster!

I was in a terrible mood from a member of the extended family ('family') losing her temper and shouting/swearing at me on the phone out of nowhere, so I bought 5 MH DVDs to finish off my collection and make myself feel better

Man, I miss buying MH stuff so bad  I treated myself to a new duvet set, since one of the two I have has really faded near the top ... and a rug for under my computer chair as it's wearing my carpet down

Oh, that's hopeful, then. I think flocked CatDog from last year was the same (SDCC exclusive that showed up elsewhere, I mean).. At least, my local-ish Forbidden Planet got some of them in. So maybe the same'll happen with Black Lady. -crosses fingers-

Forbidden Planet is VERY likely to get all the SDCC POP!s, they nearly always do. It might be a couple of months for some to show, but they DO show.

I'm slowly getting into BoJack Horseman from clips on Youtube (I don't have Netflix). I REALLY hope they do a POP! of Hollyhock, she's so precious!

I only have 2 MH dolls now, Sig Catty Noir and Londoom Catty Noir in a custom corset and I <3 Fashion Iris' pink and black boots. I'm kinda looking for a Geek Shriek or Sig/Londoom to put in a Sweet 1600 Lala dress after an amazing redress on here!
