Monster Discussion / Re: Jackson Jekyll: Normie or Monster?
« on: August 14, 2018, 06:18:42 AM »
Plus, you have his added half fire elemental side, so it makes sense he's monstrous.  He might not have abilities like some of the other monsters, but his transformation into Holt is more than enough to make him a monster.  I like the comparison to old school werewolves.  They, too, appear human but have a trigger that brings out the fully monster side and are often considered monsters whether in human form or not.

That reminds me! Didn't Heath mention that Jackson is his cousin at one point? Or am I misremembering? Or was it Holt he specifically mentioned as his cousin?

Monster Discussion / Jackson Jekyll: Normie or Monster?
« on: July 27, 2018, 08:53:16 AM »
The forums have been quiet since the reboot and I kinda just want to start a discussion  :P

Normies vs. Monsters gradually faded out of the MH universe, eventually pretty much becoming 'there's a monster world, deal with it' with normie only sometimes popping out as an insult or to describe someone as purely human (think Sparky/Dr. Victor Frankenstein). It was a focal point of Ghouls Rule and made an appearance in Freaky Fusion as Sparky got some bullying regarding his status as a normie in a monster-themed school.

That leaves us with the current 'normie' student, Jackson Jekyll. The thing is, he transforms into Holt Hyde when exposed to loud music. Holt is not doubted as a monster, but Manny in particular seemed to want to constantly label him as a normie ...

But is Jackson Jekyll truely a normie? Or can he be classed as a monster? Or does he simply occupy the status of human but entrenched in the monster world?

Let's discuss. There are 'normies' in Monster High that do belong there as they are deeply sewn into the monster world. Mr. Hackington seems to be a normal human (albeit one that worked as a professional Igor before teaching), I would say Hexiciah Steam is also human, simply an augmented one (I don't like the idea he's a Fae to be honest), and Dr. Frankenstein is also human.

Sparky got stick for being human, but he very clearly belonged in the Monster High world and occupied the Mad Scientist archetype. Mr. Hackington belonged to Igor/servant archetype and now appears to take on the hangman/executionor appearence as part of his look, but not job. Hexiciah is a bit like Sparky in that he marries human with inhuman, albiet it's steampunk machinary in his case.

Where does that leave Jackson? The thing is, he DOES have part of him that are clearly monster; Holt Hyde. The two are seperate in mind, but share the same body. It would be unfair to Jackson to simply regard his human self as Holt's alter ego or safe. He seems to fit the transforming monster archetype pretty well, like old-school werewolves that don't seem to exist in MH's universe (at least G1, it's G1 canon I'm going from here).

So I put it to the MHAreana Member Disembodiment Council, I say Jackson Jekyll rightfully belongs at Monster High and can be regarded as a monster!

I was in a terrible mood from a member of the extended family ('family') losing her temper and shouting/swearing at me on the phone out of nowhere, so I bought 5 MH DVDs to finish off my collection and make myself feel better

Man, I miss buying MH stuff so bad  I treated myself to a new duvet set, since one of the two I have has really faded near the top ... and a rug for under my computer chair as it's wearing my carpet down

Oh, that's hopeful, then. I think flocked CatDog from last year was the same (SDCC exclusive that showed up elsewhere, I mean).. At least, my local-ish Forbidden Planet got some of them in. So maybe the same'll happen with Black Lady. -crosses fingers-

Forbidden Planet is VERY likely to get all the SDCC POP!s, they nearly always do. It might be a couple of months for some to show, but they DO show.

I'm slowly getting into BoJack Horseman from clips on Youtube (I don't have Netflix). I REALLY hope they do a POP! of Hollyhock, she's so precious!

I only have 2 MH dolls now, Sig Catty Noir and Londoom Catty Noir in a custom corset and I <3 Fashion Iris' pink and black boots. I'm kinda looking for a Geek Shriek or Sig/Londoom to put in a Sweet 1600 Lala dress after an amazing redress on here!

I used to play, but I found it too stressful  I don't like timed games that are frantic, it makes my anxiety go through the roof!

Monster Discussion / When did G1 end for you?
« on: April 16, 2018, 05:45:30 AM »
Well, more 'what were the warning signs', either looking back or that you felt was a warning sign at the time?

This is not an attack on G2, nor is this an attack on lines/characters/movies that you like! Heck, I'm going to name my own, but I like other aspects related to the 'warning sign' that I half-saw at the time, half-realise afterwards. I see this kind of thing pop up in other toy lines whenever generations wind down or looks to end (think many people discussing G4 MLP for example, ranging from Faust leaving being the 'end', to Cadence/Princess Twilight/Flurry Heart/addition of Starlight Glimmer/introduction of EQ reasonings).

For me, two things stand out. First is aspects of Monster Exchange; verrry specifically, Batsy Claro's odd mix of colours and terrible spirograph-like wings. I didn't expect characters like Lorna or Kjersti to come back after first doll, but they were okay. Marisol's colours were also pretty horrible to me, but she had a good gimmick and an interesting tie to MH.

Second was the Ghouls Getaway line. Tiki-inspired ghouls? Sounds okay, almost like a missed Skull Shores line, but the sheer amount of huge pieces of unpainted, tacky plastic REALLY put me off. And the fact it seemed to be random characters! I consider Shriek Wreaked a hybrid G1/G2 line and don't really include that ... that line had huuuuge potential, especially with old-school Sailor Jerry-style fabric patterns, yes please!

What were your warning signs?

Anything poop always confuses me.  Yeah, I laugh at the occasional toilet humor, but poo themed toys make no sense.  Can't forget that one "game"  Don't Step In It.  You're blind folded and have to avoid fake poop piles.

Oh my Ra yes, I saw that recently, I still don't believe that's real!

Off Topic / What were they thinking?! toy lines
« on: April 05, 2018, 12:20:36 PM »
I am usually okay for most toy lines, they're fine even if I don't 'get' them. But sometimes I REALLY gotta know why they're there.

I play games that have ads, and one was for a toy line called 'Poopees'. And yes, it's poop and pee (and fart)-based squishable figures with punny names, that come in toilet roll/toilet/portapotty containers. To top it off, the animation for the logo is a ... 'fresh' poop. It's seriously gross.

What other toy lines make you go 'WHAT?!'

Ever After High Discussion / Dragon Games question
« on: March 26, 2018, 02:29:34 AM »
I've got the Baby Dragons app (because an update murdered my phone and I had to delete Neko Atsume *AGAIN*. I am convinced that game is jinxed), and I am looking at all the named dragons ...

I know Lizzie Hearts didn't get a doll, but I remember seeing her and her dragon with her dragon refusing to play along with her a lot. Did that dragon HAVE a name? The dragons I have so far are:

Crumpets - Maddie
Braebyrn - Apple
Nevermore - Raven
Deejay - Melody
Prince of Scales -  Holly
Brushfire - Poppy
Herowing - Darling

Who am I missing? Lizzie's dragon?
