Off Topic / Hasbro buying Mattel?
« on: November 13, 2017, 03:57:53 AM »
Sorry if this was discussed elsewhere, also sorry if I put it in the wrong section.

The rumors are that Hasbro offered to buy Mattel. It's not like it happened for the first time between those two, the talk of takeover or joining forces emerges from time to time, and then nothing happens.

But hypothetically, what do you think would happen to our fav brands if Hasbro did indeed buy out Mattel? Too big and monopolistic companies usually aren't good for customers, as they don't have competition and therefore can afford to dictate quality and price as it suits them. However, Mattel has been having troubles this last year or so, and merge with Hasbro might save some brands that would get axed otherwise.

I think EAH would be definitely killed, maybe they could stuck some characters into Descendants?

Barbie should be fine.

DCSHG could turn into Marvel super hero girls...

No idea what would become of lines like WWE dolls, KuuKuu Harajuku...

I, personally, would be most interested in MH's fate should the buy out happen. Hasbro could give it a shot and even get it right. But they could also simply get rid of MH.

What do you think, what do you want to happen?

(Why is no one picking Daring for #4?)

Could be the same for favorite outfit...

Because we are mean people and we bully the "moldies"

"Moldies" should definitely make it to list of doll-collecting terms!

Whenever I pick goals for this thread, I never get them done, but I manage to do other things that I didn't plan on doing, hehe.

Bathroom shelving is done and I also reorganized bookshelves and dollshelves.

This week I'm going to make room for my new toaster and get my little window garden ready for winter. I also need to mend some clothes.

I have to think about my water rule, because It's getting cold in here (and my heating has a mind of its own) and drinking water is making me feel really cold, as I'm unable to drink room-temperature water.

My favorite EAH:

1) pair of shoes- Legacy Day Maddie's teacup shoes
2) outfit- Signature Justine's dress
3) other accessory- Legacy Day Maddie's teabag purse
4) hairstyle- Just Sweet Blondie's streaks
5) piece of furniture- round Beanstalk Bakery table

(Why is no one picking Daring for #4?)

Could be the same for favorite outfit...

Monster Discussion / Re: How Do You Collect?
« on: November 06, 2017, 03:15:14 AM »
I had three rules at the beginning - only the dolls I really like, one doll per character, only those dolls I can get in local stores (because costs added by importing them from abroad are crazy high).
Now only the 'dolls I really like' rule remains. Frankie's GR release made me break the 'one doll per character' rule and CE Lala ended the 'local' rule.

I do like the characters in both MH and EAH, but in the end, it doesn't have much influence on my collection. When it comes to dolls, I'm judging them as pieces of art, not as figure of XY character. As DGRequiem said, dolls as ornaments.

I recently started collecting Pullips, and it's the same one rule - only the dolls I really really like. As they're hella expensive, I'm trying to be even more picky.

I have no idea what am I going to do once there's too many of them, but I currently have 163 dolls and I still don't feel overwhelmed, so I'm going to deal with it when it comes. So far I only gave away four dolls I fell out of love with.

As everybody else, I collect because the things I collect (dolls and tarot cards atm, I also have ton of plushies, although I'm not active in that field anymore) make me happy. I love to be surrounded by all that beauty. Most of my relatives have collector genes, so it's quite normal in our family to collect something.

I mostly played with LEGO as a kid, because it fitted into my small room better, but I've always loved dolls, and I think that now that I'm older (well, sort of, 'cause mentally, I'm still 11-year-old), I can appreciate and enjoy them more than I did as a kid.

Ever After High Discussion / Re: Do you have OCs?
« on: October 13, 2017, 03:14:37 AM »
Those are some nice OCs, Ameyal! I like your idea about EAH being just one of many fairy tale high schools!

I have some, but they're only "I wish there was doll of xy" type. They're all from my country's fairy tales, and I didn't really put much thought into them, I have a document where I'm collecting my ideas for them, but only when something crosses my mind, I'm not really working on them, I don't even have names for them. One problem with names is that Czech names would sound weird among other EAH characters and I'm having problems translating them. I'm also not very good when it comes to creating personalities, so they're all a bit vague and uninteresting.

The first fairy tale I have OCs from is The Prince And The Evening Star. I'll put a summary of the fairy tale under spoiler.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
My OCs from this fairy tale are daughters of Sun King, Moon King, Windy King and Evening Star, and son of the weather mage. I also want the magic horse.

The next one is The Swan Prince.

I want a doll of prince's son.

There's also very complicated fairy tale about young nobleman turned into white snake, and I have kinda-sorta-OC of his son, I also have brother and sister OCs from fairy tale Water Lady, which is another complex one (they're children of Water Lady's daughter, heroine of the story).

Congrats on new (or like new again) dolly shelf!

I re-planted my orchids, and I've succesfully kept the water and doodling habits. I didn't touch the necklace though. I'm still not completely healthy, so aside from keeping drawing and drinking water, I only have one goal - put my new bathroom shelf together and 'inhabit' it (there's no storage unit in my bathroom, so everything is in boxes placed on washing machine).

Ryoga arrived in the mail yesterday! Rather than put him with my other Ranma figures, however, I thought it would be more fun to display him in-character.

Which is to say: utterly and ridiculously lost.
