Off Topic / Re: Hasbro buying Mattel?

I can't imagine the Big M agreeing to let Hasbro purchase them. But then stranger things have happened...

Draculaura's Darkroom / Re: MH Rebodies
« on: November 08, 2017, 10:25:00 AM »
Thanx! :)  I didn't completely repaint her eyes, I just carefully narrowed down the size of her pupils.

As for Cleo...well I didn't care for the reboot face, so I just swapped her head with a DOTD Cleo.  Also spray painted her shoes & things gold:

Added a couple more Takara Jenny friends to my collection, Ellie and Lillian.  Lillian is on an articulated body and I prefer her on her regular one.  Since I have some spare Jenny bods she'll go on there, and I can use the articulated one for one of my fashionistas.  Bonus!

Customs / Re: My custom dolls/OCs- Pg 11, tell me what to do next!

I missed the voting...I was gonna say finish Seth first, then start Raythe.  Then Quill, Supergirl and Fangelica.

I thought that was reboot Gil's body you were using!  What color paint did you use and did you airbrush him?

Monster Discussion / Re: How Do You Collect?
« on: November 05, 2017, 01:55:57 PM »
At first it was just the dolls I liked, but then as I got more into MH, I began wanting all of the characters including the exclusive ones.  With the reboot giving us more children, I don't really want all of the characters any more.
I also have a rule that I want to try and have 2 of each character whenever possible.

Now I'm mostly collecting dolls I can use for customs, and fakies.  Gotta have fakies.

Off Topic / Re: Why do you collect?
« on: November 05, 2017, 08:50:37 AM »
I collect dolls, because it is like therapy for me.  I went thru a lot of heck because of my ADHD, being teased by other kids, bullied, and getting picked on every time I showed my face outside or tried to play outside.  Also, my parents fought a lot and were verbally (and somewhat emotionally) abusive to me, so I found I could retreat into my doll world and be happy.  I've been collecting dolls of 1 kind or another for nearly 49 years now (started at age 4), and they bring me great joy, satisfaction, and pleasure.  Meeting other collectors who are into them as much as I has only helped to increase that joy.

If you want to know why I collect MH's because they are so diverse, detailed and different.  No cookie-cutter head molds or clothes (well not originally, anyway).  Clothes and accessories are catered to each character's personal style and theme.  I love that.

Molded hair on male dolls—ESPECIALLY if said hair is more than long enough to justify rooting it.

Heck yeah! Like Dracula.  I want him, but I can't pay $40 for him.  I'm sure the scalpers are selling him loose for that much too.

Welcome MissKitty!

Age is not an issue here. :)  I'm 52 and I've been collecting fashion dolls like Barbie and MH since I was 4.  Dolls are for all ages!

Hope you enjoy yourself!

Clawdeen's Closet / Re: Wuvmykitties' sewing and alterations thread
« on: October 27, 2017, 09:44:33 AM »
I've been sick the last few days, and didn't get any sewing done...but this past Monday I decided to try something different with a sock:  a sweater-dress.

My old friend Dorriebelle (who was a member here at one time) posted a tutorial for making doll clothes from socks, including a sweater and I was inspired by it.  Original idea here:

This is only the first attempt, but I like how it came out.  This Abbey has such wonky eyes I was trying to find a pose that wouldn't make them stand out so much.

Yes, I use Aliexpress all the time.  But had the fakies I wanted in this case.  Oh well.

There are numerous girls' lines which have lasted for years—or even decades—off of reboots and retoolings.  MLP, LPS, and Barbie immediately spring to mind.  Hell, Barbie is one of the greatest success stories in toy history.
And likewise, there are plenty of once-popular boys' lines that failed to withstand the test of time and couldn't be revived by attempted reboots (i.e.: Thundercats).

If Mattel does pull the plug on MH, I don't think that gender will have had anything to do with it.
I agree with you on this.   We have to remember that these are for kids, and kids' tastes change as they grow.  If a little girl is playing with MH now, and she's age 5, by the time she is 8 or 9, odds are likely she'll have moved on to something else.  I don't like the reboots but I know they are necessary for a toy to thrive in the industry. At least Mattel is giving MH another chance.

Oh I am not surprised by that.  Caveat Emptor (buyer beware) definitely applies when dealing with Chinese sellers.  There are some honest ones, but it seems like for every honest one, there are 5 dishonest ones.  I know any stuff they sell (especially clothes, electronics & jewelry) will be bad quality, and the pics they show will almost always be different.  Clothes will be 2 sizes too small, gems will look fake, and electronic stuff will either not work or stop working shortly after you get it.  With their toys, I already know the quality won't be good.  I just don't like when what is shown in the pics is nothing like what is received.  That and when they claim to have a product, but then upon ordering it, either claim to send it with a bogus tracking #, or inform you they're out of stock.  Fakies seem to come and go quickly with these sellers, so I have to try and get them when I can.

Well I got these from, which is in English, so that helps.
As for Taobao, I use Taobaonow (a shopping service) to get fakies and Google Chrome when browsing Taobao.  I think it may have an option to automatically translate pages, not sure though.

I haven't had much luck with Taobao in the last few months.  Seems like finding MH & EAH fakies is getting harder.

Here's a (hopefully) better pic of the 5 pack.  I need to debox them.  Love Cupid. :)
