Signature and avatar rules.
« on: July 10, 2013, 06:53:05 PM »
 These are the Rules:

All signatures must fit within an area 500 pixels LONG and 200 pixels HIGH.

Total signature "weight" must be less than 60k.

Signatures with no graphics may have up to five lines of text.

Signatures with graphics can have up to two lines of text.

One Ticker at a time - with NO other signature graphics or text.

Note regarding any click-to-grows (dragon eggs, etc) - limit is 3 without any other pics, and 1 with.

^^ All signatures must fit within that rectangle. You may have as many images as you like within it, as long as it fits. When your signature is too big, you can expect a visit from Big Sig. She's awfully grumpy, too.

There are a couple of different ways to get your signature resized, just in case you find it difficult to do yourself.

 * You could PM hathorcat or Lilithdrff for now.

 * Or you could try this website or this one.

Remember: only you can prevent "Big Sig" from paying you a visit!

 What does "weight" mean?

Weight - simply put - is the size of your picture. To find out the size of your signature pictures, right click (on the pic) and choose Properties. There you will see the size in either KB or Bytes. The TOTAL (all pics combined) weight is 60 KB (or 61,440 Bytes).

What types of pictures are the worst for being heavy weights?
PNG files, animations, and movie/video clips are the ones with the heaviest file sizes.

What options do I have to lower the weight?
PNG files are the easiest - re-save the picture in either a JPG or GIF format. Those are a lot lower in size.
Animations and clips - you can save to a lower quality. Might not look as great, but it should fit better.

If you still have questions about your signature, or are having trouble resizing an image, feel free to PM one of the above listed Mods/Admins, or post here, and we will try to help you out. :)

Special Note: members that post in the Sigs forum to have their sigs checked, and do return to fix their sigs if needed, will not be hit by Big Bertha and thus will avoid getting a strike on their account.

If you need help or have any questions, please post here or PM SourdoughStomper or Aeryala.

Can you check and see if my profile pic is fine? When I cropped and edited it, it was under 60k (I think it was 59. something). But when I emailed it to myself I, my email said something about it being over 60K. I wasn't sure which was right, (I'm not sure how my computer could edit the pic as it was being sent, but you never know)

Okay, thanks so much! I had to crop the picture as small as I could without it looking funny and would have died if I had to make it smaller :P

Right click an image; a context box will come up that says "Copy Image URL". Click that.

Then click the little Mona Lisa image in the toolbar by the little globe, and between the tags (the bits that say img)

Code: [Select]
[img]    [/img]
Right click and paste.

150 x 150 pixels is generally the largest size we would like to see from an avatar. So anything below that saved at a low weight resolution would work. For example mine is 150 x 150 and it weighs 10.13kb.

I just wanted to make sure, is my Avvie okie? I'm not familiar with Gimp, so I'm not sure how to make the weight go down or even find the weight. =/

Your avatar is fine :) The forum itself will restrict size on that one :)

I've just updated my avatar, is this fine to use? Weight-wise I'm not sure what the criteria is for specifically an avatar.

Avatar is fine, the board auto-resizes them and checks for weight automatically.

Yeah... I wanted a transparent image... and when I posted it to Flickr for hosting it converted the transparent areas to white. [edit]. Then I couldn't figure out how to use BBcode to put an image into my sig. I used to know how... anyway... it's on hold for now!

Hi, I was wondering if my sig was too big? I know the size was 500x175 so it must have been the weight? How can users check weight kbs to make certain we don't break the rules.

Edit: I think i fixed it. It should be Less then 60K now. About 58k. Please let me know.

That image looks fine to me, both just under size and weight limits.

Just to be clear, does text need to fit into the 500x200 area? I'm thinking yes but I want to be sure before I mess around with my sig.

No the image area does not also have to factor in any text added to your signature.
