Can't get the curls to stay (Update)
« on: April 17, 2015, 07:36:25 AM »
Is there any way to curl EAH doll hair without the curls falling out? I curled Blondie's hair and left it for two days and it barely curled. Any advice will be appreciated

I usually curl the hair, boil it, freeze it for a couple of hours or minutes, take it out, wait for it to thaw, and then dry.

I've had curls in Catty's hair since 2013 because of this.

I have the idea you need the curlers in place for 2 days after the boiling and freezing before removing them

I would advise using sponge rollers like you would for human hair. Wash the hair and while it's wet, wrap each section in a dryer sheet (not a whole one, but a big enough piece to wrap around each section), and then roll up in the sponge roller. Dryer sheets have an amazing smoothing effect. The pony on the left I did not use dryer sheets, and this pic was taken a while ago... Her hair is totally flat now. Rainbow Dash's curls are still mostly in-tact but should probably be redone ONLY because she got thrown in a box for my move.

Yeah, the longer you have them in there (and i'm talking about straws, I just thought we all meant straws /i've been doing this too long) the better. But sometimes if you didn't curl them right it's basically for naught, no matter how long they've been in there  :(

I use either straws or curlers :) I didn't boil the hair because she has factory curls on the side and a sprig of hair on top that I didn't want to mess up (it has hairspray or something in it to stiffen it) But looks like I need to boil and freeze, just being really careful :)

Do you still boil the hair with the dryer sheets?

I have not tried the boil curling method using the dryer sheets.

Totally paying attention here (and very appreciative of the tips), because almost every EAH doll I've curled has had her curls fall out. I thought it was just the high Florida humidity.

Huh the dryer sheets is an interesting idea, I'll definitely have to try it! My dolls curls stay in place but they always get frizzy when I try and remove the curlers. Thanks for this thread!

I'm not very experienced but when I was curling the hair on my Maddie for a custom Thronecoming doll I also used a thin layer of water mixed with tacky glue. I'm a very impatient person so when I curled her hair I put it around straws, dumped it in the boiling water a few times, waited for it to cool off and dry a little, took out the straws very carefully and then coated my fingers with the water/glue mixture and shaped the curls a little. You can see the end result here Maybe this helps a little?

Here's my Cupid with her new curls :) I love how soft they look. I did the boiling/freezing method.
