any vintage fashion doll collectors here?
« on: March 27, 2015, 09:58:07 AM »
I was just wondering if any of you collected vintage fashion dolls from the 60s, 70s, or 80s.  I have collections of vintage & MOD era Barbie & friends (mostly Francie & her friends items), Flatsy, vintage Dawn dolls, and Dazzle Dolls & Glamour Gals from the 80s.  These include fakies/clones and also some custom things.

Some of my faves.

I have some bubbles too.  They seem so underappreciated, I am always seeing them in abundance on eBay.  If you have pics of the beauty bath playset I'd love to see it. :)

I need to wash it, but its missing a couple pieces. I'm staying at my grandparents house so my camera is at home!

I would love to collect vintage barbies, but I haven't found any in the wild/ I don't actively search for them because there's so many.

I always try to buy vintage dolls whenever I find them in my city.
So far I've bought a 1969 skipper and three dawn dolls (they are super cute)

And also a doll that looked vintage, it kinda looks like a liddle kiddle but Idk much about them.

ME!! haha I love vintage fashion dolls.
I've actually been collecting them longer than MH/EAH.
I love Barbie, Blythe, vintage Barbie knock offs,  and I collect little random vintage dolls and take their pictures of them for my flickr. :)
My favorite older dolls at the moment are my 1973 Quick Curl Kelley dolls, Totally Hair Barbie, My Remco Heidi dolls, and my Kenner Blythe dolls. I also have a lot of TLC Vintage Skipper and Ken dolls coming in the mail soon. I love restoring vintage  dolls as well so they will be a lot of fun to work with.  :thumb:

I do!! I have a pretty decent sized collection of Mod Barbie and friends. I've been meaning to photograph them, maybe now I actually will! I have many favorites, but the two I have on display in my dollhouse are  a complete Yellowstone Kelley and a Summer Sand TNT Barbie in Twinkle Togs.

My best friend collects Tressy dolls. She's still actively looking for a key for the hair growing mechanism. They're much harder to find than the dolls themselves.

My Mom has an old Bubble Cut Barbie and an old Ken doll too.  She thought about selling a while back, but eBay prices seemed low for the vintage doll.  So, they are still in storage.

I'd love to see more pics.  Vintage dolls are cool.   :)

I actually have loads of pics on my Flickr photostream.  I collect and focus on MOD era dolls & fashions.  Some of my dolls have been rerooted or restored by me.  I don't have too many dolls of great value, but I love what I do have.

Here's a link to an album showing some of my childhood Barbies:

I bought a Barbie at the flea market. She is marked 1966. It's supposed to be Julia (barbie's friend) But for an anniversary she was reproduced again. I'd like to know what is the difference between the repro and the vintage.
She is marked "© 1966 Mattel, Inc. U.S. Patented U.S. Pat. Pend. Made In Japan."
Both her feet say  "JAPAN" at the bottom.

I was hoping some doll collectors would know :s

I'm not an active collector, but I do have a few ^_^ My mum's old Ken, brunette Bubblecut and Fashion Queen, who have been played with by half of her family so they're pretty worse for wear, sit on my dresser, and I'm pretty sure my 1970's Candy Candy doll counts as vintage too.
Aaand, if the 80's is also considered a vintage era by now, I have several Jem dolls and a beautiful mib Lynn Russel doll from ''Hello! Lady Lynn'.
I do love older dolls though, especially mod-era Barbies and 70's/80's anime dolls, just can't afford them  :P

Well, technically the 1966 markings don't mean anything except for the year that style of body was trademarked.

Vintage Julias typically had black hair that oxidized over the years to red.  Repros (of course) have black hair.
If you can post pics of your doll I might be able to tell you who she is.

FYI  - Here is my vintage Julia - her head is on a 1980s body (I can't afford an all original doll):

Ladyphoenix - I have vintage Jem dolls too! :)  I love Jem.

Thanks for telling me about the hair. And I know that the year is about the mold used only, but thought that maybe the marking would lead to something.

I noticed that the repro dolls had a darker hair and found it strange! Mine has, like, burgundy colored hair, I really love it and that's how I noticed the doll in a pile of broken toys!

Here's a pic

Her hair looks kinda strange here (about color)

That's a vintage Julia. :)  Awesome find.

As for the differences between the repro and vintage dolls, aside from the hair color mentioned in my last post, the repro's face looks chubbier than the vintage one.
This is a pic of the repro I found on the web (I thought it was too large to post here):

Thanks for letting me know :D And yeah, now that you point that out, the repros have a rounder face :>
