Childhood Nostalgia?
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:23:39 PM »
In a few short weeks, I'll be travelling back to my parents' home for a visit, during which I have to choose which childhood toys are going to charity shops, and which are coming home with me. As I was planning in my head which toys I could afford to ship back to Oz, I got to thinking about exactly why I wanted to take particular ones over certain others.

Which got me thinking about their (sentimental) value and whether I'd be so attached to these toys if there were more current alternatives on the market.

Part of the reason I got into MH was that they are basically the kind of dolls I would have wanted to own when I was a kid. Barbie was fun, but She-Ra and her friends were always my favourites, and they didn't get nearly enough costume changes to satisfy my dress-up loving self. I also had a handful of Fashion Star Fillies (which made my Breyers look plain and my MLPs a bit unfashionable) and a slew of Littlest Pet Shops.

So I was just wondering, if you could see any line from your childhood revived or revamped, what would it be?

Jem and the Holograms?
Lady Lovely Locks?
Fashion Star Fillies?
Cupcakes?
Rainbow Brite?

Obviously She-Ra has gotten a recent revamp as a part of the Masters of the Universe Classics line, Littlest Pet Shop has evolved into something almost unrecognisable, Strawberry Shortcake has come back even pinker than ever, and MLP has been revived at least twice now. But is there a favourite toy line of yours that never got a second chance?

Kenner's Rose-Petal Place dolls.  They made them one year.  They even made prototypes of a second wave to follow them but they canceled it.  They did use the new characters in a TV special, so at least I have them in some form.

Nostalgia is a HUGE  seller these days, I would have said "80's Ninja Turles", but I already saw the revamped version of them AND THEY ARE AWESOME(Also a bit on the pricey side)
Power Rangers? They also got a reedition with better articulation(Although much, much smaller)
Trolls already became "Trollz"(Bleh) and Zelfies, and it seems "normal" Trolls are still made regularly(Or fakies, at least)
OH!
BATTLE BEASTS!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Beasts
They were this tiny little beast robots thingies that had a "secret" symbol on their chest, and it was basically rock-scissors-paper to play their battles(Of course it lost the surprise the longer you had them, but still)

I would love to have my old Sailor Moon dolls again. I used to get so excited when there would be a package from my Grandma in NYC because she'd send me SM dolls!

Oh gosh... Popples. I had a bunch as a kid and I've no clue what happened to them (my mom isn't the type to keep toys around). Netflix is actually going to be revamping the series sometimes this year, I'm really excited to see what the toys are going to look like (something else cute and fluffy for me to want )

Sailor Moon was my first anime and is also a big one for me. I didn't even realize how much so until 2014 with all of the 20th anniversary stuff on the market. I want ALL OF THE MERCH! XD

I remember those!! Kooshie balls were my brother's favorite toy growing up! He had to have one with him everywhere he went!

POLLY! YES! I actually have a bunch that I'm planning to rescue from my folks' house. So far as I know, they're all still intact. I was pretty particular about keeping everything where it belonged as a kid.

I'm also hoping I can find a way to bring back my Cinderella Starcastle (the ones that had keys and lit up/played sounds). Ahhhhh. So many things I don't want to have to get rid of, but worry I won't be able to find a way to bring back!

Kooshie Koos or Kooshlings, Raye? Or just plain Koosh balls?

I also want to add Lost n Found plushies. I have my childhood bunny still. She's in rough shape though.

Koosh balls. After a little research I realized how wrong I was. It was just the plasticy ball thing.

Ah yeah, I think the regular ones are still being sold. I sawone at TRU near the checkout not long ago. I collect the babies.  Although... I have a "soft" Koosh ball still. All the rubber fibers are thinner than your regular Koosh, and I remember it being an official product, but I can't figure out what it was actually marketed as.

I think I had one that the Koosh was supposed to be the body of a figurine. He had one that was black and... yellow? green? I can't remember. But that thing went everywhere. And when they got wet, the little fiber things would clump together.

Oooh! I just remembered another one! SkipIt!! I LOVED that thing. I was so good at it, which is weird, in retrospect, because I am not at all coordinated.

Well for one thing, Jem and the Holograms are getting revamped for comics.

They've got new Pound Puppies out that are cute. And I am glad to see they're bringing back Puppy Surprise/Kitty Surprise even though I don't like the way the new babies look. The mommies look almost the same but the babies' faces aren't nearly as cute as the originals. But I've had no luck trying to find old ones for a reasonable price that come with their babies.

I'd love to see Rainbow Brite and Popples make a comeback.

I liked Skydancers a lot, I've seen similar toys with less pretty faces.

Polly Pocket and Littlest Pet Shop didn't go away just changed to where they're pretty much completely different.

The toy I played with the most was Barbie, though, so she never went away.

Rainbow brite is getting a reboot, it was announced back in October. Hopefully it's good, I know the toys had a reboot in the early 2000's and I thought they were awful, lol.

I'd like to see Moon Dreamers revamped, I loved those dolls!

They made Rainbow Brite dolls ( like barbie, mh etc) but it was for a very short time, and now they are a million dollars on ebay :-( last time I checked anyways.
I would have to say Bravestarr,
Only because my absolute favorite, Thundercats was just redone, and killed just as quickly. :-( if they didn't waste so much time releasing the toys and moving the show time around so much, they may have had a better run.
