I'm probably alone in this, but I wish the show would give up on following the comics and be purely its own thing. More than it currently is, I mean.

It kind of already does that though. It follows a basic outline of the comics, but things happen in such a different way that the show and the comic are really two different entities. For example Carol in the comics is long dead and was nowhere near the hardcore woman who will do anything to protect those she loves, instead she was mentally unstable and even slashed her wrist in front of Sophia at one point.

Yeah, that's why I said "More than it currently is, I mean". :| I just feel like the show would be better if it was taking its time to be completely its own animal, though - rather than "comics lite" or whatever.

You realize that to do that they would have to kill off everyone in the main cast except for Daryl, right? I'm just saying that if you don't want them to follow the comics even slightly that is what they would have to do. And can I just ask why them using the comics as a guideline is even an issue? Just curious honestly.

I guess my babbling is pretty nonsensical, there. I didn't explain what I was even thinking about well. :( Sorry about that. Let me start over completely and try to make more sense.

I guess I feel that here lately, the show feels like it's running faster and faster, trying to catch up with the comics. I'd like it if we could slow down and explore things more. Partially, my dissatisfaction is with pacing, I guess. I'd like to know who some of the newer characters are before they kill them off, you know? Even if they're there to be "random redshirt who dies as part of a big body count to show how serious things are". You'd feel something when they killed them, at least.

I also feel like pretty much every "big event" we have in the show tends to get pooh-poohed by the majority of comics fans because the "comics did it better" or something like that. And I mean yeah- the comics could do pretty much anything, the sky was the limit because there was no practical limitations on what you could do with the storytelling. You could have a herd of a million if you wanted, just so long as your inker was up to the task. The show has all kinds of restraints that make doing things a lot more challenging. Hearing constantly on the fan communities I'm on for the show that "the show did X terribly, they ruined X" is just kind of exhausting. I suppose that wishing that they were more distinct so that the constant nickpicky comparisons would calm down is futile, though.  ^^;

I guess really that could mean that my biggest complaint is the (thankfully not here) section of the comics fandom that just can't get over how they're different takes on the same material and can't stop themselves from constantly complaining about finding the show lacking as loudly as they can to try and make sure everyone knows that they think the show is trash. (I question why they're still watching it but whatever, you know?) I was thinking that if they were taking a bigger departure from the comic, it might quiet that down a bit. But probably that would just make them complain louder, wouldn't it? Ugh. I think maybe I just need to quit a couple of those forums and groups. I will definitely miss some of the episode play by play and discussion, but it's just so tiresome to wade through the complaining to get to it.

Edit: TL:DR = Fandom

Edit pt. 2: Saw some of the series 8 figures today. Dale comes with a lawn chair!  Finally the toys will have seating!

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I totally agree with you on the pacing and such and wish they weren't as constrained to following the comics template. Although it's definitely not because of satisfying the fandom because well..a lot of fandoms suck. Monster high seems like one of the good ones but there are some fandoms I avoid like the plague. So far the pokemon fandom has given me the most head aches with their "the first generation had better pokemon!" meanwhile the first generation had a purple blob and a brown blob coming from the ground that evolves into more blobs coming from the ground. I almost dread every time a game comes out because everyone complains adamantly about how ugly the new pokemon are when they first see them...and how they aren't going to buy the new game (they of corse do and then get over it until the next game comes out.)
I imagine the comic book readers (Edited: Please refer from namecalling - SweetScreams -OT mod.) will never be satisfied because they want to seem superior, no matter how great the show is they will never stop the comparisons.

I'll put in a friendly reminder.Because I really don't want to see this thread get locked. There are so many places on the web where we see this never-ending-good-for-nothing discussion about comic vs show, let's just keep that part out of this thread :).

I really should try to catch up with the show, I miss it too much!  (And I still need to see Fear..)
I've kind of felt that all seasons have paced to fast, but that might just be all the action  ^^; which I love

I can't believe we're already at the mid-season finale. Especially since in "show time", pretty much all this season has taken place over... what? Three days? Is that right?

I love the comics and I love the show, and in all honesty most of the comic fans I personally interact with also love the show or at least appreciate it as its own thing. I think the show does a great job of taking alternate routes on their way to the major comic signposts. I do think I see it from a different perspective, though, because a lot of the people who I see slag and complain are people who don't read the comics. Maybe I'm just talking to different fans, I dunno.

Yeah- it's been like three days! Maybe even two? We keep seeing different little groups over what seems to be the same time period. There's at least one night in there, but I can't tell if there's been a second night or if it's just that same one as experienced by different people.

I'm pretty sure it has only been two days and a hell of a two days those have been. @_@

Do you guys know if the mid-finale is going to be longer or just standard run time? I forget.

Furious. My local cable dropped AMC after all. Sounds like it was an insane episode from what's going on over on reddit, though.

It was amazing. I'm going to watch the encore airing after TTD, too.

I'm sorry to hear that, Knightfire- can you watch it online or anything? :(
