Can you use nail polish remover on dolls' bodies?
« on: February 04, 2021, 07:02:39 AM »
Hi there! Just a quick question. I have a Disney Store Mulan doll that I want to put on a Barbie BMR1959 body. Problem is, the body has painted nails, and as cute as that would look on Mulan, I just don't think she's the type of girl that'd wear nail polish. XD

My first thought was to use nail polish remover with acetone to remove the paint from the nails, like customizers do when repainting a doll's face. However, I think I heard somewhere that the chemicals can damage the hard plastic of the body. Does anyone know if that's true? If it is true, can I wipe the plastic with water immediately after to remove the chemicals, or am I still risking damaging my doll?

Thanks in advance!

No acetone on hard plastic like ABS. Will melt it and then get whatever you're using to rub it on all stuck in it and make a huge mess.
Try light sanding

I've heard good things about Winsor and Newton Brush Cleaner from people who work on Pullips and Blythes since you can't use acetone on them because they are also hard plastic.
Still seeking Indigo Astranova doll and Chase Twyla Vinyl!!!

I will definitely look into that! I'll be honest, I'm a little afraid to sand my doll's fingers. I don't want to ruin her accidentally!

If you have paint that matches the skin tone you could paint over them.

Oh my gosh! How did I not think of that? I'll have too see if I can mix the right color, but that just might work! Thank you so much!
