A few youtube customizers I watch have said to stay away from air dry clay, none of them explained why though.

The only air-dry sculpting compound I've used was Apoxie Sculpt.
I'm not a huge fan of Sculpey in general as I've had it crack and break on me quite a few times.  But honestly I could've done something wrong that caused it to become so brittle.

Unfortunately I don't have any firsthand experience with the air-dry variety.

I use it all the time. It's brittle and cracks easy though, but you can use superglue on it
