Will there be a SDCC release this year?
« on: June 26, 2018, 11:50:26 AM »
I couldn't find a thread about it so I was just curious. I really liked the one they released last year so I was hoping for another good one this year.

Yeah, very doubtful. I've been watching for other brands' exclusives, but nothing's grabbed me yet.

I didn't even remember SDCC was coming up because I usually use MH news to track it...

With MH nearly dead in the water, there won't be anything at SDCC.

I would be incredibly surprised if they did an MH SDCC doll this year.
As Lynda said, the brand is dead in the water.  It isn't making enough money to warrant Mattel investing in a collector's item like that.  And for another thing, they didn't do an SDCC exclusive for MH last year, so I'm definitely not expecting one this year.

Same. lol
SDCC snuck up on me this year since I'm so used to MH and EAH exclusive leaks coming out ahead of the con to announce it to me. XD

If they did say that then they didn't follow through with it.  They've announced a bunch of MoTU merchandise for SDCC this year.

For those who are interested, SDCCBlog is updated daily with information on every single comic con exclusive that's announced.  I use it every year.  It's a really great source for tracking what I want to try and get from the con.

Here is the page for Mattel's announcements.  So far they don't have any dolls announced at all for this year.

Since there is a new movie for dcshgs I think that's the most likely doll they could do but I'm not sure if they are making more...

I also seriously doubt there will be a new SDCC exclusive doll this year. The entire franchise is hooked on a respiratory machine, waiting for someone to pull the plug and put it out of its misery. Unless they've managed to design one and found a way to keep it totally secret and then they surprise us all with it at the last minute, there won't be one.

I dont think there are exclusive MH dolls for this year, maybe only for DC superhero girls.

Except for the ever eternal Barbie, although I really no points of interest in those atrocious Fashionistas coming out in all shapes, sizes and colors. Ditto for the Made To Move.

I actually love the Fashionistas precisely because they come in different shapes and sizes.  As a petite plus size woman myself it's great.  Collectors have clamored for this for years.  The MTM dolls are amazing with their articulation.  (Hard to find for me, but amazing still.)  I wish MH had made some curvy dolls.  I'd love to get Skelita's mom as a doll.

But anyway, back to SDCC...it is kinda sad there aren't any new dolls coming out from Mattel.  But it's also a relief for my wallet, LOL.  I'm still trying to get my mitts on another Manny.

IMO the problem with current Barbie isn't the body types but what they are passing off as "fashion".

But the Fashionistas are quite on-trend for what's in the fast fashion/retail shops, and with their hair and makeup looks. It's just that they aren't articulated that is the dealbreaker for me. I hoard MTM bodies to swap out when I see one I really like.

That's true, I think all of the newest ones have ugly clothes. The fashion packs are kinda bad too if they weren't doing hello kitty, care bears or dc comics I wouldn't buy any clothes :annoyed:

I like some of the fashions.  Finding bodies is to replace their original ones is the hardest part for me.

But to get back on topic...
I just did a quick check and it looks like the Mattel SDCC exclusives have been relegated to MOTU, She-Ra and a couple others.  No MH or EAH.  No DCSHG either.
