We lost ours in the first wave of closing, but man it's painful to see more go.  We're hoping to make that last trip before they close entirely, but I'm starting to think that won't happen.

Hmm.... Sorry, I'm losing my job. I'd love to offer sympathies for those who are losing their home stores.... but I'm' not getting anything for staying with the company. No severance, no bonus... nothing.

The writing was on the wall a long time for R Us... no circulars in the papers, no TV ads save for holiday time, prices that were at times higher than everyone else.
Got clones? I've got over one hundred... How many do you have?

Sorry to hear you are losing your job.

That's another reason it would be rough if my state lost it's only TRU. My state has been bleeding jobs. First the owners of a local chain called Benny's decided to just up and close their 14 stores in the state and then the only Kmart in the state closed. And Amazon decided to not put a warehouse in our state.
Still seeking Indigo Astranova doll and Chase Twyla Vinyl!!!

Oh boy.

It's still not set in stone, but if TRU cannot find a buyer or some other way of settling their debts, then yes, they'll be shutting down all of their US stores. :(

The only thing my TRU does is constantly move the Funko displays...they don't even seem to move dolls.

I just saw this today.  TRU may be closing all its stores in the US.  This article also talks about how this is bad news for Hasbro and Mattel (and other toy companies).  Monster High is already struggling and this could make it worse.

The TRU where I live is the only place that has any sort of selection of Monster High left.  We don't have a Target and Walmart's MH section is almost gone.

Just read the news and ran straight here. My tru want hit by the first vwave of closings, but their mh eah section is very very thin as is, so it doesn't even mean i can get there at opening (its literally right across the street from me) and get great deals on mh.  So hard to find the silver lining.

This is what technology has brought us!!!

The next closest tru gave zero notice itvwas closing and just poofed out of existence and it wasn't even on the list.  So I've been aware and fearful of such news.

I don't know any way we can stop this.  Tru replaced children's palace and kaybee but nowadays its almost foolish to have brick and mortar stores when you can just be an online business.

This is so dreadful. I don't buy dolls online for the obvious reason of factory flaws and eye wonk.
But also the very personal draw i have to a particular doll despite her parts all being the same as a dozen before me, the sum of those parts is somhow greater. The placement of Rochelle's freckles. The tone of those lips. The positioning of the pattern on every dress is different.

Im so sad im like mourning too soon. News is a doom machine and fear is pouring out of the hearts of all of us who remain children at ours.

Wow... This is heartbreaking. :( While I do a lot of my shopping online out of necessity, the experience hardly compares to the fun of browsing through an actual store... I have been fearing and dreading this moment since the bankruptcy announcement.

It makes me sad to hear about the continued decline in toy sales. Video games and technology can be a valuable part of childhood, yes (especially given the importance of programming skills in the modern world), and many games and apps offer wonderful outlets for creativity... but I still believe that actual, real-world toys and games are an integral part of developing the imagination. In a screen-obsessed world, are we losing all interest in the actual world around us? People have talked about this problem for years, but statistics like these are still a shock.

Such bad news :(

I haven't bought anything recently from TRU, but my parents just moved near on and was definitely waiting on them to settle in to start buying again

Toys R Us has always been a rare trip for us, so it's always exciting to go.  And now we're losing that.  It's also a way for me to get out of the house.

I'm OK reverting to online shopping, since I don't really collect anything in store anyway at this point, but my sister is really unhappy.  Companies don't care about packing things well.  One would hope if people start online shopping, they'd at least take the time to pack things safely, but things will probably stay the same.

The company has also gone into administration in the UK as well.

This is terrible. My Walmart only carries the budget dolls and EAH is completely missing. No joke. Target has some like garden ghouls but Toys R Us has the good releases and the newer along with some older releases. Iím just angry that if they close their stores we will have to buy online and for big prices. :/

Not surprised.  It doesn't off the sorts of deals that Walmart and Target does and it doesn't offer a unique experience like other smaller toy stores do.  For the random family there is little incentive to shop there when you can get a better deal or have more fun someplace else.

Idk if TRU could survive unless something drastic happens. Maybe if Amazon bought TRU, and ran the toys/collectables/electronic games side of their business out of it?

I already miss TRU, it was the ultimate amazing place to visit when I was a kid. :( There were other "toy stores", but Toys r Us was THE toy store!
