Could Vampirina save MH?
« on: October 02, 2017, 11:08:43 AM »
Disney Junior just started airing a show about a little vampire girl who moves from Transylvania to Pennsylvania. Could this show make spooky things trendy again and give Monster High the boost it desperately needs?

If there's MH ads during the show, possibly. I remember Boo York getting ads on Disney channel way back when.

I doubt it to be honest.

For one, the series is based off of a series of kids' books that have been around since 2012, so this isn't something new.  The target demographic is already familiar--at least to some degree--with the titular character.

For another, Vampirina (and Disney Junior in general) is intended for a very young demographic--and a very different demographic than MH.  I can't see a show for preschoolers and kindergarteners inspiring much interest in MH.
It would be nice if it did, but I don't see it happening personally.

I think the age demographic is too young to have a "trendy" impact. If anything, its success will tell Mattel to not change anything they're doing right now.

By the way by "save" I just mean avoid any kind of cancellation. I was just hoping maybe the brand would renew interest in spooky things.

Well, it couldn't hurt! I don't know if it'll save Monster High, but it won't be bad for it. I think the real thing that will "save" Monster High will be if they stop making the toys for a while, then bring them back.

My thoughts exactly. Because, also, it could corner the market on little kid spooky, so MH can return to aiming for an older more fashion conscious demographic.  But, you're right, it could help to renew an interest in legit spooky monster things. Vampirina is struggling to fit in, but her monster side isn't just a mention or a fact that doesn't impact story like in MH; her life is full of monster problems. I think it serves the agenda of teaching kids to accept people for who they are inside more than MH & parents might be accepting of that program than they are Monster High.

It's a valid point that rekindling kid interest in spooky monster cute could just boost sales of MH as is and justify their G2 dumb down. I'm fine with there being budget dolls with less or no articulation and basic dress....but only alongside deluxe fashion focused dolls and slim box fashion dolls with pull off limbs. I don't see why they can't please everyone.

Unlesss they know adults have claimed this line and really want us to lose interest. In which case, well done.
