New Swimsuit Dolls
« on: May 13, 2017, 11:55:19 AM »
So I was happily browing through Tumblr when I ran into this.

...yikes.  Although they remind me of those Barbie swimsuit dolls, I still... kind of ? like them. (Drac looks a little off, but that may be because of the lighting. Out of the three, I like Frankie the best.
If they end up adding Cleo and Lagoona, they could make a pool-type playset with Lagoona where she swims on her own, maybe even in her ghoulfish form (if GSR is still canon, which it probably isn't).
I wish they could've made the swimsuits fabric like in Gloom Beach or Swim Class, but I guess that won't happen seeing how MH is heading (molded clothes and limited articulation galore!) Well, at least these are good for the lil' kiddies, right?

So, do you like these? Do you have a favorite? If there was a G2 swim line similar to the ones from G1, how would you want these do look?

Is it me or do their faces look more... Mature?
I kinda like them for what they are, Frankie is also the one I like the most.

They look nice enough and I'm sure younger kids will appreciate them. But man, this does not put the older collectors at ease about the future of Monster High. We really need some detailed dolls. I'd settle for a few simple budget lines at this point.

Besides Abbey (who isn't out yet), I haven't seen any compromise.

I don't really count Skelita because she was the tail end of G1/ isn't all that detailed.

I agree, their eyes look less round and innocent.  I hope that carries over into the release.

Draculaura is my favorite for now.  I love the big blue bow.

The faces do look better.

But less joints and painted on clothing = a big NOPE from me.   :P

I actually love the designs. But I hate that they're paint instead of fabric

No, no, no.  A thousand times no.  A million times no!

Still too childlike for me.  But then, they're meant for little kids altho I'm not sure how little (3? 4?) at this point.

SO funny what different people see from the same image! I see that pic, and to me they look like moms waiting to serve lunch at the pool party. Mature and conservative, not monsterrific outrageous teens.

Garden of Frights?

Tbh I kinda understand why they are doing this. The majority of older kids would rather be on snapchat than playing with dolls so they have to keep skewing younger. I was at Walmart recently and a little girl who looked around 6 or 7 years old was clutching an unarticulated basic dress Draculaura and patting her hair came in as I was leaving. If it was a G1 doll I bet it would be missing hands.

I like how the dolls do look somewhat more age appropriate but either they have painted on swimsuits or they're plastic.  I am so sick and tired of Mattel's plastic clothing shortcuts.

I actually like these more than the other budget dolls because they aren't trying to hide what they are - which is cheap bits of plastic for younger/less well-to-do kids.

I do like the swimsuit designs, but of course I too would have preferred them to be fabric. I might actually have gotten these dolls just for the swimsuits if they had been. Still, cute for what they are.

Anyone feeling like they're getting really repetitive with the hair/makeup though? I feel like every time the dolls look almost the exact same.  ^^;

Yep. On the bright side, it means fewer dolls for me to buy.

Those hips/thighs are terrifying...

Everything else I kind of expect from the reboot/dolls aimed at a younger market, but those hip joints look horrific.

I wondered about the hips/thigh gap thing.  But I thought maybe it was just me.  :P

But yeah, not sure what to think about the hips on these.

Yeah it looks like there should be articulation shortly below the hips but before the thigh like the 17" dolls but there isn't and it's just WEIRD!
